How developed is your baby? At 8 Weeks • The heart is beating rhythmically. • The baby has arms and legs. • Facial features are recognizable. At 12 Weeks • The toes and fingers already have nail beds. • Faint fetal movements are starting. • Early reflexes are present. • The genital is already recognizable. • Heartbeat can be detected by Doppler. At 16 Weeks • An ordinary stethoscope can detect the fetus’ heartbeat. • The pancreas and liver are forming. At 20 Weeks • The mother can feel the baby moving. • The baby has hair. • The baby has periods of being awake and asleep. At 24-25 Weeks • The baby’s brain exhibits regular brain wave activity. • Eyebrows and eyelashes are distinguishable. • The baby can open its eyes. • The baby’s pupils react to light. • If born early, the baby can survive if cared for in a modern facility.
