VYTTILA
Vyttila is home to the state’s busiest and biggest junction. The junction is marked by the convergence of six main highways, the most prominent of which is the NH 66. The term Vyttila is derived from the Malayalam word ‘Vayal Thala,’ which means agricultural land. It was an agricultural area that grew rice and cocoa.
Vyttila is home to the Vyttilla Mobility Hub, which connects many modes of surface transportation to the city (including local and long-distance buses, train, Metro Rail, and inland water transport) into a single node.

PROPOSED
Concerns:
Lack of public spaces for people to interact. Social blight and menace caused to unchecked fast paced development. Underutilized private plots. Limited interaction between communities. The NH acts as a strong barrier and splits the area causing disconnection on either side of it.
AIM
Development of public spaces in Vyttila catering to the fast transformations of the precinct through spatial structuring following human-oriented design principles.
VISION
The creation of a multifaceted development centred on addressing the socio-cultural character and the transformation of the urban area into a better one that can adapt to current and future urban transformations.
OBJECTIVES
Integrating Public realm network
Building Blocks Streets and edges
Plots management
Development of hybrid commercial spaces along the commercial edges
Assorted options for urban car parking
Provision of segregated pedestrian and cycle paths
Redeveloping the water edge
private-private partnership
Amalgamation of plots
Various building forms to achieve maximum FAR within the stipulated building densities and heights
Restructuring the Church road
Land aggregation of adjoined plots

MASTER PLAN
The master plan includes a connected street network, plenty of public spaces, and an inclusive constructed form that improves liveability, allowing for a 12% increase in the area covered by the public realm. Increasing the area’s population density is the aim of managing the need for open spaces.
The network is open, and the area around transportation stations is more walkable.
Design Steps
1. Integrated mixed-use and commercial development with the existing NH corridor and proposed pedestrian network.
2. A new pedestrian priority corridor is proposed within the residential area parallel to the NH66 and the commercial edge which becomes a public realm and also a transition zone between the residential area and the commercial edge abutting the NH.
3. Church road is widened to cater to the city-level traffic improvement.
4. Increased setbacks to increase the margins that allow for more public realm at the ground level for commercial buildings along the NH corridor.
5. Plots are reserved for future development based on incentives provided to specific landowners.
6. Application of differential FAR to achieve different built forms based on plot sizes, built use, location and proximity to the arterial road. Maximum FAR and land area is given to the corner plot.
7. An integrated network of public spaces of various hierarchies that are connected through pedestrian priority networks.
Proposed Built form
Network of public space network created that caters to the neighbourhood as well as to the city. Neighbourhood parks, community as well privately owned public spaces created. That are connected by road and pedestrian networks.
The water edge is developed currently with an integrated cycling and pedestrian path connecting to the Kunnara park through pedestrian priority networks.

LIBERTY SQUARE, TBILISI
Liberty Square plays a vital role in the connection between the two sides of Tbilisi. The issues will be addressed at a pedestrian scale, so the aim is to amplify the pedestrian utilization of the space and balance the private to public transport ratio. PHOENIX, DUBAI
Phoenix is a multi-comfort residence space that was designed using Saint Gobain materials as part of a design competition. The design was focused on developing a creek front residence space with integrated public spaces that had a controlled entry for the outside public and free entry by the residences. The project was situated in Al Jaddaf, right opposite the Dubai Festival City.
Dubai Creek is the birth place of the decade’s old tradition and culture of Dubai. The art of making dhow is an ancient and important part of the economy and history of UAE.
“A phoenix rising from the ashes”is the theme chosen for this design. According to the H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai and Vice President of the UAE “The Creek is the very heart and soul of Dubai – its raison d’être,”
