about me My dad named me Fairy because he was hoping I would become an elegant, witty, daddy’s little girl, but we can’t always get what we want, right?

The art & technique of typography.

ob jective There are two parts to this project. First, design a typeface and show it both concretely and abstractly in a poster. Second, choose a well-known typeface and identify its elements. Design two posters to illustrate and communicate the proper terminology for the different anatomical parts of the letter form. interpretation In order to create a consistent visual and the idea of interlinking with all the graphic elements, I illustrated the same amount of stems (vertical strokes of the letter) as a system. I illustrated Baskerville anatomy to educate the lay viewer. As an example, I chose the letter Q to demonstrate the dynamic shapes and forms as a focal point to lead the viewers to explore more details.

Explore food as art with passion.

ob jective Take a visceral perspective, explore food as art, with passion and emotion. The major emphasis is placed on developing the typographic details of ‘well set’ type, grid, pacing and content. interpretation 12 Plates is a cookbook of worldwide Michelin chefs’ signature dishes. I chose the typeface Didot to emphasis the feeling of highend gourmet dishes. The design used splashes of graphics to illustrate the expressive techniques in each dish.

ob jective Understanding the medium and the ability to bridge the two with a well-designed user interface. Objectively evaluate the usability of products, design from user requirements, and test designs to verify successes or uncover flaws. interpretation In order to improve VSCO into a more intuitive application, I create three design goals, improving studio section, legible community section and accessible filter function. I also redesign the interface of VSCO, create a set of new icons to increase the legibility of UI.

ob jective Design a series of three book covers that aren’t from the same genre. Each front cover design should reflect the essence of the book, giving the reader a hint of the book. interpretation I focused on how to illustrate the key elements of each book on its cover. After trying a variety of materials, I came up with the idea of using transparent sheets as a sample and sewed them on the top of the cover. It also created a cohesive elements that tied the three books together.

To achieve the goal of being both informative and fun, I used neon green to emphasis the idea of engaging interaction. From abstraction to concretization.

ob jective There are two parts to this project. First, choose a word and interpret your own definition. Second, develop multiple typographical compositions with conceptual ideas and context. interpretation The first part of the project aims at the idea of being bipolar. It is my approach to the chosen word "bedlam." I used brushes and an organic texture to demonstrate the look and feel of how fast moods can swing for people who are bipolar and the confusion this brings. For the second part, I illustrated memories of my mother, I choose a set of soft colors to represent her personality and used Bauer Bodoni typeface to demonstrate an ethereal and dreamy feeling.
