Fairways Talent Showcase an Absolute Hit!
First, I want to recognize the behind-the-scenes talent that made the Fairways Talent Showcase night such a success!
Edwin Ramierez helped keep things running smoothly and generally being exactly where help was needed. Our Master of Ceremonies was the warm and wonderful John Cutsinger. He ‘taught’ the audience how to clap, introduced each act, and led us to sing Happy Birthday to Michael. The backbone of the whole show, though, was DJ Johnny. He provided the music and sound. Without him, there wouldn’t have been any singing or dancing. Thank you all! We are so appreciative.
Fairways Has Talent!
We had a variety of artists with some favorites we’ve known for quite a while, as well as some surprises. We had some wonderful singers that are community favorites, including Michael Walker, Fran Archibald, Ken Bickford, and Claire Sourwine. They are long-term favorites and are marvelous singers. The new singers were, Nick La Roche, and a surprise appearance from The Twisted Sisters, AKA Melanie Klements and Sandy De Jesus.
by Suzanne Hammons
The variety acts were wonderful, starting with David Gregg as a magician. He and his lovely assistant, Angela Artymowycz, really wowed the audience. Comedian, Vickie King, had us laughing out loud with commentary about being married and getting older. We had guitarist, David Joseph, who played an acoustic guitar and sang some very moving songs. And our last variety act was longtime resident, Joy Verneau. She did Lily Tomlin impressions which included Ernestine the telephone operator and 5-year-old Edith Ann. She did a terrific job and kept us laughing.
We also had the Fairways Tap group perform; the members are Rebecca Croughwell, Letizia Morales and Suzanne Hammons. Of course, being totally objective, these dancers are my favorites! They performed routines to the tunes of Greased Lightning and That’s Entertainment. The same group did a hula dance to King Kamehameha. We were fortunate to have a dance performed by longtime Hawaii resident and dance instructor, Mary Lee Notley, to the whimsical tune of Keep your Eyes on the Hands. We are so grateful to the FHAOI board for sponsoring this event, and we’re planning on doing it again next year.
Be sure to check out the Fairways website with up-to-date information on upcoming events and other news. You’ll find a link to the Eagle newspaper there too! FairwaysOrlando.com

by Lynne Blair
The FWGA played their Solheim Cup Tournament on the 13th and 15th of January. Mary Deuble was captain of the White Team and Dee Perrine was captain of the Green Team. The White Team players were Mary Deuble, Lynne Blair, Carol Frost, Susan Edwards, Lynne LaRoche and Tammy Ferrara. The Green Team players were Dee Perrine, Elaine Rugg, Pat Chiappetti, Jackie Root, Barb Avery and Diane Armstrong.
The first day was two-woman teams, white against green using the best score of the pair per hole. At the conclusion of the day, the White Team had the advantage. Day two was alternate shot, once again two-woman team white against green. Day two was cold and wet, from the previous night’s rain. One team had to forfeit, so the rest of us played nine holes. At this point, the White Team had scored enough points to take the title. Good going White Team. Everyone had an enjoyable time and are looking forward to next year!

The tournament will be held on October 21 starting with a putting contest at 8:00 am followed by a round of golf. Lunch will be served at the Masters after the tournament, and we will have Share the Wealth and Raffles.

All proceeds go to Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation in Orlando. Breast cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of death to women so please join us and show your support for this most worthy case.
Please contact Lynne Blair at 407-595-9392 with questions or to request more information.

February is Resident Appreciation Month!
This month, Hometown America is excited to celebrate you, our wonderful residents. We’ve planned several special events throughout February to say thank you for being such an important part of our community.”
February may be the shortest month of the year, but it’s packed with history, charm, and meaningful celebrations. Here are a few fun and interesting February facts to brighten the month:
Interesting Facts About February
• Shortest Month: February is the only month that can have 28 or 29 days. During a leap year, an extra day is added—February 29—to keep our calendar aligned with the Earth’s orbit.
• Only Month That Can Go Without a Full Moon: Every so often, February has no full moon at all, something that can’t happen in any other month.
• Groundhog Forecasting: February is famous for Groundhog Day—a quirky U.S. tradition where a groundhog predicts the arrival of spring based on whether it sees its shadow.
February is also RESIDENT APPRECIATION Month!

The bocce balls are rolling again this winter. We have forty-four teams signed up to participate and ten additional players as substitutes. We changed the format this year for a more favorable competition. There are ten men’s teams and fourteen women’s teams plus thirty couples teams.
The vote by the players was in favor of this change in play.
The tournament is still nine weeks long with the playoffs the following week. The top teams in each group will compete for the overall championship for the year.
The bleachers have been moved from under the canopy and picnic tables have been moved in. So, you’re invited to come and watch us play and bring a picnic!

Both the Old and New Testament have so much to teach us.

Our evening study is going through the book of Galatians in the New Testament. We’re meeting on February 5th and 19th at the Greenbrier at 6:30 pm. This book was written by the apostle Paul, who was the first missionary. He was transformed from a fierce persecutor of early Christians into a man who wrote a significant part of the New Testament. Our afternoon study is going through a video series called “The Daniel Prayer.” Daniel was a noble Jewish youth taken into captivity by Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon. He served the king while remaining true to the God of Israel. Our afternoon study meets at Jolynn Haussmann’s home, 14721 Firestone. Dates are Thursday, February 12th and 26th at 3 pm.
Our Praise and Prayer time is on Saturday, February 7th, at 11 am at the home of Frank and Reenie Nix. This is a wonderful time of singing and sharing prayer requests. Address is 1734 Inverary. All Fairways ladies are invited to join us at all of our events. If you have any questions, please email Jane Slotnick at jaslotnick5@ gmail.com or text Joy Ruggiero at 614-743-4402.

Quilts of Valor for Fairways Veterans
In November 2025 we had the privilege of honoring 10 of our Fairways veterans. They each received a quilt provided by the Central Florida Quilts of Valor Foundation. QOV provides quilts to veterans throughout Central Florida. We believe in the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices of military members and ensuring they feel valued.
In February the Quilt of Valor Foundation will be back in Fairways to honor more of our veterans. The dates will be Saturday February 7th at noon and Tuesday February 17th at 3:00pm. We invite all to attend these presentations.
Our goal is to be able to provide as many quilts as we can for Fairways Veterans. If anyone wishes to nominate a veteran to receive one of these beautiful quilts, or to get more information please feel free to contact Annie Ossenkop at 559-760-9860.
