Free Summer Meals for Kids at Fairview Library
Honoring Vets at Cane Creek Cemetery
On Memorial Day, residents of the Spring Mountain Community honored those who served our country in the armed services by placing flags on veteran’s graves. Kendall Davis played “Taps” as a tribute those who protected our freedom.
Can you help the Crier this month?
Once a month, the Town Crier appears in your mailbox... free. We hope you enjoy receiving it. Volunteers put labels on the papers that are then brought to different post offices to be delivered to Gerton, Fletcher and Reynolds. Can you spare one hour on Friday, August 1 at 9:30 am? We meet at the Fairview Library Community Room at 9:30 am. If we have enough volunteers we’re done in an hour. If you can help, please email Candice at office@fairviewtowncrier.com or call her at 628-2211. You’ll enjoy being a part of getting our community newspaper out. Speaking of community, stop by the new office sometime. Candice, and sometimes Linda, are there Monday–Friday, 1–5 pm. And there’s a drop slot if you need to drop something off after hours and a newspaper rack outside if you need an extra copy of the paper. Inside, we also collect for Food For Fairview.

Town Crier Grand Opening July 10, 6-8 pm
Come out and enjoy some great food from Smokey & the Pig (BBQ dinner), The Local Joint and Trout Lily Deli & Cafe/Cape Fear Coast Seafood(fish tacos) and yes, we’ll have vegetarian and gluten free options, as well... live music and singing by Chris Rhodes (the editor has a little pull)... sweets from The Cookie Couple and Ruth & Ranshaw... and the best part is you will be supporting your community non-profit newspaper. Opening our new office has proven a great service to our readers, local businesses and non-profits. Candice or Linda are in the office Monday–Friday, 1–5 pm to help you with any needs. The Fairview Business Association members that share our office park are contributing by holding raffles for some awesome items. And we’ll have our new 100% cotton very cool Town Crier T-shirts for sale as well. Plan on having dinner and spending the night enjoying your neighbors, mingling about or even dancing. There will be lots to do. You can even enter our contest to “Name that Crier!” and win a free T-Shirt, tote bag and Town Crier pen. Heck you can even get your photo taken with the Town Crier! Mostly, you’ll be showing your support for your almost 20 year old community newspaper. We’ll be in the parking lot in front, the grassy area on the side and the back of the building, plus all the businesses will be open. This will be a fun time for the family with lots of friends and an opportunity to meet many of the business owners in the community, plus the staff, volunteers and Board of the Town Crier. We’ll have submission forms for recipes for our new “Flavors of Fairview” cookbook that we’ll be publishing in the fall as our fundraiser. This will be a cookbook filled with stories, as well as recipes. So please start thinking about which one to submit and bring it to the Grand Opening or email to office@fairviewtowncrier.com with name and a bit of interesting commentary. We will publish in November just in time for Christmas gifts. Can’t wait to see you all on Thursday, July 10, rain or shine! In case of monsoon, call the office for rain date... 828 628-2211.

JULY 2014
Now that summer is here, it’s time to think about keeping children healthy while school is out. With this goal, the Buncombe County Library, Recreation and Culture Department has partnered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Buncombe County Schools Child Nutrition Department to provide free meals to children during the summer. The Fairview Library at 1 Taylor Road is participating in the program. Free meals for children ages 2–18 will be served at the Fairview Library on weekdays, Monday through Friday at 12 noon, through August 8th. There are no income requirements or registration. Any child under age 18 may come to eat. For information, contact Lynn Pegg at 250-6707 or visit buncombecounty.org/parks. The Town Crier received the following email: “Thanks for all your help with little Jasmine. Thanks to your efforts, she found a great home. She found a wonderful home this week with a semi disabled woman who walks her multiple times a day and wanted a dog to sit with her on the couch! And she saw it in the Fairview paper. Thanks again!”
