Supported Employee, Sonia enjoys sorting the jewellery and craft donations amongst other activities in our Op Shopping Village.

Sonia is a friendly face, known by many at the Op Shopping Village. Her passion for the task at hand and positive attitude has a great impact on her colleagues and customers alike. “I like to be put to the test trying new things and I’m so glad to be in retail because this is what I want to show people – that people with or without a disability should never give up”. See page 4 for more information about working with us.

Hello everyone and welcome to the September edition of the Fairhaven Newsletter. Well touch wood, the Central Coast as well as Fairhaven seem to have come through the threat of a 2nd wave of COVID-19 relatively unscathed. Thank you to everyone in the Fairhaven community for responding to the challenges posed. Particular thanks go to our front line staff and volunteers who turned up day after day during these very uncertain times to serve the people who rely on us. Thankfully, we can start to relax some of our more stringent precautions. For now. Since our last newsletter we have been busily working away at getting feedback from all of our stakeholders. I’m really looking forward to coming back to many of you to clarify the things you think we do well, along with all the things you think we don’t do so well. Apart from identified issues we can fix up straight away, all of this information will be used in our strategic planning process that will commence later this year.

As we head into strategic planning, I’m reminded of a conversation I once had with a mentor of mine. He told me the smallest thing on the windscreen of my car is the rearview mirror, he said you need to check it occasionally to see what is behind you, but if you look into it for too long, you’re either going to run off the road, or hit something you didn’t see coming. He reckoned that the difference in the size of the rearview mirror to the windscreen was a good indicator on the ratio of time you should be looking back in life, compared to looking forward. In other words, our rich history has gotten us to where we are at Fairhaven, but we can’t be looking back at that all the time, it’s time to embrace the future. As always - if you have any ideas on how we can build and run a better, stronger Fairhaven, I’d love to hear them. Scott Holz CEO – Fairhaven
