THE OF WIZARD OZ

“There’s no place like home…”
A line that resonates deeply with anyone who’s ever dared to dream, faced a challenge, or found courage in unexpected places. As we welcome you to this year’s production of The Wizard of Oz, I invite you to reflect on the timeless messages woven through this magical journey: friendship, resilience, and the discovery that the qualities we seek are often within us all along.
Since September, our students have been on their own remarkable adventure. Like Dorothy and her companions, they’ve followed a winding path — one that’s demanded commitment, creativity, and a great deal of heart. Whether on stage, behind the scenes, or supporting from behind the curtain, each student has contributed to something truly special.
Their journey has been filled with laughter, learning, and moments of transformation. Along the way, they’ve discovered new talents, faced their
fears, and most importantly, grown closer as a group. Watching them rehearse and refine this production has been a joy, and I am so proud of their perseverance and passion.
Tonight, we invite you to follow the Yellow Brick Road with us — to be swept up in the magic, to celebrate the courage of our performers, and to experience the wonder they’ve worked so hard to create.
Thank you for joining us. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
Edward Pearce School Director
Dear Parents, Students, and Community,
Putting on a show is like working on a giant puzzle, carefully crafting each piece to create a beautiful picture. Every part, no matter how small, is essential. As the Director of The Wizard of Oz production, I am filled with joy, excitement, and immense gratitude as I reflect on our journey.
From the very first auditions to the final curtain call, this production has been a true testament to our students' dedication, resilience, and collaborative spirit—beautifully supported by our entire community. In a production of this scale, teamwork lies at the very heart of its success, and this show was no exception.
The preparation process was an extraordinary adventure, showcasing the remarkable commitment of our students, teachers, and parent community. We worked together to create a vibrant and engaging experience for both our performers and our audience. Rigorous rehearsals were filled with moments of discovery, growth, and challenges, all met with enthusiasm by our students and supported by our wonderful parents. Our young actors embraced their roles with passion, diligently refining their performances, practicing in their free time, and forming practice groups that
demonstrated a remarkable ability to work as a cohesive creative team.
Behind the scenes, the dedication was equally impressive. Our student artists, guided by our talented faculty and with the invaluable assistance of our parent volunteers, poured their creativity into designing and building the sets, props, and amazing costumes, transforming our stage into the magical land of Oz.
The Wizard of Oz is a story about courage, friendship, and believing in yourself. Through this production, our students not only brought this timeless story to life but also embodied its core messages. They learned the value of teamwork, the importance of perseverance, and the power of artistic expression.
While we all strive for perfection, it’s often in the unexpected moments— the missed cues, the quick adjustments, the creative improvisations—that the most meaningful growth occurs. These experiences remind us that the journey is just as important as the final product. Each step, whether smooth or challenging, becomes a building block toward confidence, resilience, and personal development.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our wonderful parents and guardians for your unwavering
dedication and support. Your encouragement, help with costumes, and patience throughout the busy rehearsal schedule have been truly invaluable.
To our incredible students—thank you for your passion, commitment, and talent. Your performances, from powerful vocals to expressive dancing and heartfelt acting, were nothing short of extraordinary. Tackling such challenging roles with grace and enthusiasm has made this production an unforgettable experience.
We are immensely proud of what has been achieved and of the positive impact this production has had on our entire school community. The Wizard of Oz has been so much more than just a show—it has been a meaningful journey of growth, creativity, and shared joy.
Sincerely,
Kateryna Sygydiuk Play Producer and PYP Director
The choreography for our primary performance of The Wizard of Oz has been a wonderful journey. The students have worked together to develop their movements and facial expressions, showing real teamwork and dedication.
One of the cast's favorite pieces is the Jitterbug performance—jumping and jiving to the music has brought so much energy and fun to our rehearsals.
It has been a heartwarming experience to watch the older children support and encourage the younger students, helping them extend their moves, stay in time with the music, and bring their characters to life with expressive faces. We have truly grown into one big family through this creative process.
Megan McDermott Primary Co-Director
The Wizard of Oz with our wonderful primary team has been an incredibly rewarding experience. What started as lines on a script has blossomed into a vibrant, magical production—thanks to the hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm of our young performers.
It has been truly inspiring to watch each child grow throughout this journey— not only in their acting and stage presence, but also in their confidence, teamwork, and joy of performing. The way everything has come together, from the set and costumes to the music and choreography, has been nothing short of magical.
Seeing the students step into their roles with such dedication and bring this timeless story to life has been a proud moment for us all. A heartfelt thank you to the entire cast, crew, and support team for their commitment and spirit.
I am absolutely thrilled to be part of this year’s production of The Wizard of Oz! From the very first auditions to the final rehearsals, every student has demonstrated incredible dedication and passion for their role. Their enthusiasm and commitment have been truly inspiring, and it has been an absolute joy to support them either with rehearsing lines, perfecting dance moves, or guiding them on stage.
One of the most rewarding parts of this experience has been watching these talented students shine beyond the classroom. Seeing them step into their characters with confidence and excitement. The different groups of students, such as Winkies, Munchkins, and Jitterbugs, have not only worked seamlessly together but have also formed wonderful friendships along the way. Our main characters have tackled an enormous challenge, mastering their roles with such dedication and joy. Their energy, perseverance, and infectious smiles have made this production truly special.
I cannot wait for the moment the curtains rise on opening night and for everyone to witness the incredible work these students have put in.
Enjoy the show!

Working with the MYP cast on The Wizard of Oz has been a genuinely rewarding experience. Over the course of the academic year so far, these students have grown in confidence, collaboration, and creativity - bringing depth and energy to a story that’s familiar to many, but fresh through their eyes. This production reflects their hard work, commitment, and willingness to support one another through the process. I’m proud of what they’ve achieved and grateful to be part of their journey. Thank you for supporting them by being here tonight.
Drew Cyster MYP Cast Co-ordinator
It's always a challenge to put on a classic show like The Wizard of Oz. We all have our own memories and ideas attached to the performance, which can be hard to ignore.
However, this year's cast have done an absolutely smashing job of making this show their own! From coming up with individual character heart / brain / courage gestures to crafting the perfect puppy bark / evil witch laugh / Winkie march / Munchkin giggle, these students have truly developed a fresh take on this classic show!
A massive thank you must go out to everyone who has shown their dedication in preparing for this production. There was a great deal of hard work that went into this show, both onstage and behind the scenes, but - lucky us! - our students always helped to make the "work" feel more like "fun". We were never short of laughs as they tried out hilarious new takes with their characters during rehearsals or shared their zany suggestions to make the show better. Althoughto be completely honest - sometimes it was less laughs and more terror: the witch and those monkeys are really, really creepy!
Abby Brewer MYP Acting Co-Director
It has been an absolutely wonderful experience working on my first production at Fairgreen! It’s always a challenge to put on a show that’s so familiar and nostalgic to many, but the students have worked incredibly hard on bringing a fresh take and energy to this story.
I am so pleased with their enthusiasm, hard work, and willingness to step out of their comfort zones and try new things. There has never been a dull moment, and it’s been lovely to watch them grow in confidence and personality in the acting, dancing, and singing as the weeks have gone by.
It’s been a joy to contribute to their learning, and to work with my fellow directors Drew, Abby and Jess and share their passion for theatre.
Noura Sulaiman MYP Choreographer
Working on the Wizard of Oz Cast 2 production has been an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable experience. It's been a pleasure to work with the MYP students and to watch them grow in confidence, take creative risks, and support one another throughout the process.
Their enthusiasm, commitment, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones has been incredible and they should be very proud of themselves.
A massive thank you to Drew, Abby and Noura for their dedication and support - it really does take a village to put on a show!

When all the world is a hopeless jumble
And the raindrops tumble all around, Heaven opens a magic lane.
When all the clouds darken up the skyway
There's a rainbow highway to be found, Leading from your window pane
To a place behind the sun, Just a step beyond the rain.
Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high, There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue, And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.
Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops away above the chimney tops, That's where you'll find me.
Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow; why, then, oh why can't I? (orchestra interlude)
If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow, Why, oh why can't I?

Once there was a wicked witch in the lovely land of Oz
And a wickeder, wickeder, wickeder witch there never, never was
She filled the folks in Munchkin land with terror and with dread
'Till one fine day from Kansas way a cyclone caught a house
That brought the wicked, wicked witch her doom
As she was flying on her broom
For the house fell on her head and the coroner pronounced her dead
And thru the town the joyous news was spread
Ding-dong, the witch is dead! Which old witch? The wicked witch
Ding-dong, the wicked witch is dead
Wake up, you sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up, the wicked witch is dead!
She's gone where the goblins go below, below, below, yo ho
Let's open up and sing, and ring the bells out
Ding-dong! the merry-o sing it high, sing it low
Let them know the wicked witch is dead
Ding-dong, the witch is dead! Which old witch? The wicked witch
Ding-dong, the wicked witch is dead
