Jacquard’s new Jagua kit is super easy to use. Add water, add oil, stir and draw! After the Jagua gel is applied to the skin, you let it dry and then rub it off. It looks pale initially, but darkens to a deep blue black over time that looks like a for-real tattoo. Fool your friends or test-drive a new tattoo idea. Join NAMTA President Barb Schindler and the NAMTA Board of Directors at the Natural History Museum of Utah, located on the campus of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Transportation will be provided between the Radisson Salt Lake City Downtown and the museum starting at 6 PM. The museum offers a spectacular view of Salt Lake City and features exhibits of natural history subjects with an emphasis on Utah and the Intermountain West. The reception includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, beverages and entertainment.

All attendees are welcome. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased when you register for your badge using the Online Registration form. Tickets will also be sold at the NAMTA Registration Desk at the show.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Robert Gamblin, The Lifetime Achievement Award

T

he founder of Gamblin Artist Colors, Robert Gamblin, has spent his career supporting, improving and extolling art and the art industry.

Robert graduated from the University of Oregon in 1970 and founded his company in 1980, after having spent 10 years painting in the U.S. and Europe. Always an oil painter, he has been represented by art galleries since the late 1980s.

These days, Robert divides his time among Gamblin Artists Colors, his work on Gamblin Conservation Colors, his painting studio across the street, and his extensive

garden at home. He and his wife Catherine, who is also an artist, live in the hills about Portland, Oregon, just down the street from his son Jonah and two grandsons, Apollo (age 9) and Jasper (age 6).

HALL OF FAME Richard Goodban, NAMTA Hall of Fame

I

n high school, Richard joined the untold millions of students who were informed, in his case by an art teacher no less, that they would never be an artist. Despite the emotional setback, art has been a central part of his life for the last 40 years.

After graduating from City of London University in business and marketing, he worked in the coal industry before

joining Gillette’s marketing department; initially responsible for brands such as Toni Perms, hair colorants and hairsprays. He survived this new emotional challenge, and, following Gillette’s unsuccessful attempt to buy Winsor & Newton in 1977, Richard concluded there must be something worthwhile and exciting about the art materials business. As a result, later that year, he accepted a marketing management position at Winsor & Newton.

He has never regretted his decision.

Some 35 years later, he retired from ColArt after serving in a number of roles including marketing director, president of ColArt Americas, and group commercial director. He now runs a successful consultancy business for the art industry.

In addition to his responsibilities for ColArt, Richard served on the boards of ACMI for 10 years and CEPE, the European Color Manufacturers Trade Association for nine years. He joined the NAMTA board in 2005 and subsequently served four years on the executive committee, including one year as president.

In 1988, Tony designed a foam cutting tool for his son David Natal to make lightweight scenery for clay animation sets. In 1991, David asked Tony to create a set of foam cutting tools for miniature terrain making that he could manufacture and market. The new company was given the name Hot Wire Foam Factory.

Applied with a paint brush, it dries within 15 minutes. Simply remove by rubbing with fingers without ripping the paper. This liquid frisket is latex free for people who are latex intolerant.

Gel retarder The gel retarder is similar to Demco’s acrylic retarder but in a thick gel consistency, it is designed to be used with heavy body acrylics such as Demco’s. Do not mix more than 25% per volume into paint. Does not contain acrylic resin. Use with moderation.

Pearlizing medium The pearlizing medium gives a pearlescent finish when mixed with acrylic paints. Mix one part of medium to one part of paint depending on desired pearl intensity.

Are pictures allowed on the show floor?

To protect the rights and interests of our exhibitors, permission is required from the exhibitor/manufacturer prior to taking any photographs with any form of equipment including cameras, digital cameras, video equipment, and cell phones. All security personnel are aware of this rule. Violators may be asked to leave the show floor.

Age Requirement Due to safety concerns and the business environment of the show floor, no one under the age of 16, including infants, will be permitted in the exhibit hall. Children under 16 will not be permitted to remain unattended in the NAMTA Registration area.

Selling on the Show Floor NAMTA prohibits selling on the tradeshow floor except in the exhibitor’s booth.

NAMTA also prohibits selling at the show by non-exhibitors. If you see anyone doing either of the above, please advise show management.

Photography Release NAMTA has commissioned both a professional photographer and videographer to take photographs and videos of all events at Art Materials World 2017 to capture and record the feel and atmosphere of the camaraderie and networking that takes place. These photographs and videos may be used in a myriad of ways to promote this and future events. Additionally, press badges may be given to members of the media who are authorized to photograph and film the same.

By attending the show’s events, you may be incidentally included in group or crowd shots that might be used later for general publicity purposed. If you do not want any photographs of you used in any way, please let the photographer or a member of the NAMTA staff know this before, during or after attending any of the events, so that we can ensure that any photographs of you are not used.
