Alois Home 1

ALOIS HOME, named after the first founder of dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease, Alois Alzheimer, is a home made for a family of three with a father that suffers from dementia and has no one to take care of him besides his wife and daughter.

This project aimed for its students to design a dwelling for a small family with special needs or requirements.

Programmatic Idea

A dwelling that accommodates the symptoms of someone with dementia and creating a safe & comfortable space for him and his family

The father’s needs are the primary concern, requiring a safe environment where he can move freely without getting lost while receiving proper care.

However, the mother’s need for storage and the daughter’s need for a workspace must also be addressed. These areas should ensure privacy and be inaccessible to the father.

To achieve balance, the house should have clear boundaries to define private zones, an intuitive layout to help the father navigate safely, and open spaces to create a welcoming and functional environment for all family members.

Project: LITERATE! 2

Project: LITERATE! is a community space dedicated to promoting literacy among youth, addressing the declining interest in reading in Jakarta. Inspired by SDG Target 4.6, it features an amphitheater for literary performances, mural walls with literacy-themed artwork, and a mini library of donated fictional books. Located in the quieter northernmost part of the RPTRA, the site ensures a peaceful atmosphere, enhanced by noise-dampening mural walls. LITERATE! aims to inspire a love for learning and storytelling while fostering youth engagement and strengthening community bonds.

RPTRA Taman Gajah, Jl. Cipete III No.4, Cipete Sel., Kec. Cilandak, Kota Jakarta Selatan, Daerah Khusus Ibukota

After analyzing the site, I noticed a lack of libraries in the area despite being home to many children and surrounded by schools. Additionally, literacy interest among Jakarta’s youth continues to decline. This led me to adopt SDG Goal No. 4, more specifically target 4.6.

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

“A space dedicated to fostering literacy, with a focus on increasing interest among the youth.”

Amphitheater: A space for literary performances, such as book readings, poetry recitals, and small-scale theater productions.

Mural Walls: Featuring literacy-themed murals and infographics to engage and inspire the youth.

Mini Library: A collection of primarily fictional books donated by the local community.

Target 4.6

By 2030, ensure that all youth and a substantial proportion of adults, both men and women, achieve literacy and numeracy

As previously mentioned, a quieter environment is essential for fostering reading and literacy. To achieve this, I focused on designing the mural walls to function as noise-dampening or noisecanceling features.

I experimented with various shapes and analyzed their effectiveness in reducing noise, comparing their performance to determine the most suitable solution.

Man-made structures inevitably disrupt nature by consuming resources. This project’s manifesto emphasizes “borrowing” from nature—utilizing resources responsibly, preserving their value, and giving back in some way. It also aims to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between users and the environment.

Vibrancy in Mixed-Use District: A Case Study of TransitOriented Development Area in Dukuh Atas, Jakarta 5

Jakarta’s rapid population growth has caused severe traffic congestion and poor air quality, leading to the implementation of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) strategies to enhance public transport and reduce car dependency. The Dukuh Atas TOD Project aims to create a sustainable urban environment by integrating transit stations with commercial and residential areas through mixed-use development.

Counsellor - Dr. Ir. Achmad Hery Fuad, M.Eng.

Topic Cluster - Urban

This study explores the vibrancy of Dukuh Atas, focusing on social interactions and gathering places, influenced by street furniture, accessibility, green spaces, and community engagement.

Using qualitative methods, this study concludes the evidence of vibrancy through dynamic levels of interactions and gathering places in areas like Jl. Blora, Dukuh Atas Park, and the Kendal Tunnel. Findings indicate that both spatial (atmosphere, proximity to public transport stations, and seating availability) and non-spatial factors (the presence of street vendors, human activity patterns, and the existence of organised events) contribute to it, which leads to vibrancy, thereby supporting TOD’s role in reducing car dependency, alleviating congestion, and improving air quality, thereby fostering a sustainable urban environment in Jakarta.
