My name is Benjamin and I’m the founder of Jersey Skin. We make skincare items from and inspired by Jersey botanicals. Jersey Skin is a family business, although born in Gorey Village, Grouville, where we grow or harvest all our key ingredients - on 15th May 2021 we opened the doors to our town shop at 11 The Parade, St Helier where you’ll find us

SARAH BAUDET ARTIST
I’m Sarah and I work with copper, wood and aluminium to create unique sculptures for both indoors and outdoors. My work is inspired by nature, creating all types of flora and fauna, along with landmarks of Jersey to name but a few.
Tell us about your Genuine Jersey Products
I create unique sculptures from copper and wood using the island around me as inspiration. I use templates which I draw myself then I cut out the metal using a piercing saw, braise a pin to secure and then source a piece of wood as a base. Each piece is unique as no two pieces of wood will be the same and when the copper is heated no two pieces will turn the same colour, it is always interesting to see the end result. I also use aluminium to create sea creatures and other pieces. These can all go outside, the aluminium and copper will weather but not rust!
What’s new/what’s coming up? (100 words)
I am always trying something new! If I think of a new idea I have to make it! I simply can’t wait, even if I should be making something else!
Recently I have been using paint to add colour to my pieces and I’m really enjoying the process.
I have so many ideas for outside sculptures I will have a go at next year as a treat to myself for completing the marathon of all the Simply Christmas markets in the Royal Square in November and December!

In each edition we feature some of Jersey’s creators and let them share their creative visions and handmade goods with you lot, our island consumers. If you like what you see, check out genuinejersey.com and hunt them down to support our local industries!
My name is Jo Logue , an artist with a shop in the Fish Market called Jo’s Painted Pebbles. I hand-paint pebbles and scallop shells with intricate mandala-inspired designs, drawing inspiration from Jersey’s coastline and colours. Alongside my artwork, I’ve published creative and beachcombing books that celebrate the island’s natural beauty.
Tell us about your Genuine Jersey Products
My Genuine Jersey products are hand-painted pebbles and scallop shells, canvases and pebble crafts. I also create themed collections, such as sea urchin-style pebbles and coastal-inspired sets, which have become popular with both locals and visitors.
In addition to my artwork, I’ve published books that reflect Jersey’s creative and natural heritage. Art on Scallop Shells shares step-by-step designs to inspire creativity, while Jersey Shells – Jo’s Guide to 20 of the Most Popular Finds on the Beaches of Jersey, written to help families and beachcombers discover the island’s treasures responsibly.
What’s new/what’s coming up?
I am always painting and am currently working on inspiration quotes on pebbles and handmade hearts with mandala patterns. I have also uploaded my shell patterns on Etsy so they are available for anyone who wants to have a go themselves!

My name is Anna, I’m the Shop Manager at Maison de Jersey, the retail home of La Mare Wine Estate. My role is about sharing the story of our sustainable, handcrafted products and helping visitors take a true piece of Jersey home – from award-winning wines to artisan treats infused with the island’s character.
Tell us about your Genuine Jersey Products
At La Mare Wine Estate, every Genuine Jersey product is made here on site, something many people don’t realise. From our vineyards and orchards to our winery, distillery, and production kitchens, everything is crafted under one roof. Our grapes are harvested and transformed into award-winning wines in the winery, while our apples are pressed and distilled into cider. In the distillery, we also bottle our gins and vodka with the same dedication to quality and craft.
Meanwhile, in our estate kitchens, our chocolatiers and chefs handmake biscuits, preserves, fudge, and chocolates using local and sustainable ingredients whenever possible. Carrying the Genuine Jersey mark is our way of celebrating this authenticity. When visitors take home a bottle of wine, a spirit, or a box of artisan treats, they’re not just buying a product, they’re taking home a genuine piece of Jersey.
What’s new/what’s coming up?
We’re really excited about all the new things happening at La Mare, especially our Apple Alchemy Collection. It’s all about celebrating Jersey apples, bright, fresh, and full of character. We’re using rare heirloom apples and focusing on produce that naturally grows here on the island. The range includes our lightly sparkling Pétillant Apple Wine, the refined Pommelier Apple Aperitif, and our Pomignac brandies, both VSOP and XO, which are double-distilled and aged in oak casks. Everything is grown, crafted, and bottled right here on the Estate, so you really get a true taste of Jersey in every glass.

Some people dream of being surrounded by granite, some prefer a more modern aesthetic. Then there are the those that want to have their cake and eat eat. Thankfully, some properties walk the line between history and modernity, with the odd grand piano thrown in for good measure. Tucked away in St. Mary lies The Byre, a substantial granite residence that seamlessly marries traditional character with contemporary luxury. Set against the backdrop of rolling countryside and bordered by equine land on two sides, this 7-bedroom, 6-bathroom home is far more than a property—it is a lifestyle, offering both scale and serenity in equal measure.
Parts of The Byre date back to the late 1800s, its granite walls whispering stories of the past. In 2006, the current owners embarked on a sensitive yet comprehensive renovation, transforming the home into a showcase of thoughtful design and functional elegance. The renovation enhanced the natural flow of the property, creating a layout perfectly attuned to modern family living, while retaining its historical charm.
The residence spans over 6,500 sq ft, arranged with versatility in mind. Generous reception rooms provide ample space for family gatherings, celebrations, or quiet evenings by the fire. Each living area carries its own distinct character, from bright contemporary spaces with sleek finishes to cosy lounges framed by traditional stonework and expansive windows.
At the heart of the home lies the kitchen: a striking, modern space designed for both culinary creativity and social connection. The clean, high-gloss finishes are complemented by premium appliances, abundant storage, and a central island that invites family breakfasts and evening gatherings. Flowing naturally into dining and living areas, this is a hub designed for togetherness.
Multiple reception rooms provide flexible spaces, whether for formal entertaining, relaxed family living, or even creating dedicated work-from-home environments. Large windows and bi-fold doors invite natural light to flood in, while also framing views of the manicured gardens beyond.
In 2021, The Byre was further elevated with the complete renovation of its outdoor heated swimming pool, accompanied by a stylish new pool house, plant room, and gym. A newly constructed quadruple garage ensures space for vehicles and storage, while a gated entrance and forecourt parking provide both convenience and security.
For lovers of outdoor living, the property excels. A fully equipped outdoor kitchen and BBQ area set the stage for summer gatherings and alfresco dining, while sun terraces offer a private retreat for relaxation. The garden itself is a careful blend of elegance and practicality, offering space for both play and peace, bordered by picturesque equine paddocks.
Whether you dream of hosting large family gatherings, enjoying summers by the pool, or retreating into countryside calm at the end of a busy day, this home offers it all
The Byre’s seven bedrooms are arranged with flexibility, catering to both family and guests. The principal suite is a sanctuary in its own right, featuring generous proportions and an ensuite bathroom. Additional bedrooms, each decorated to an exacting standard, provide comfort and privacy, ensuring every family member or visitor has their own retreat. With six bathrooms in total, convenience is assured.
Despite its tranquil location, The Byre enjoys enviable proximity to local amenities. Just a short drive away lies La Mare Wine Estate who are now doing some decent food, along with some great north coast walks. Schools, shops, and even St. Helier are all within easy reach, making this property as practical as it is beautiful.
St. Mary is proper rural charm and that classic country pace of life, while still being slap-bang central and well connected to the rest of the island. It is a parish that balances peace with accessibility, making The Byre’s location all the more appealing.
The Byre represents a rare opportunity to acquire a residence that ticks every box: historic character, modern design, extensive accommodation, and luxurious amenities. Whether you dream of hosting large family gatherings, enjoying summers by the pool, or retreating into countryside calm at the end of a busy day, this home offers it all. For those seeking a home that balances tradition with innovation, and grandeur with warmth, this one is worth viewing.

Words: Peter Seymour, The Mortgage Shop
Bank of England Base Rate was reduced from 4.25% to 4% on 7th August following predictions from many commentators and figureheads that the rate would continue to fall towards the end of the year.
It is possible that this trend will not continue due to rising inflation in the UK coupled with the influence of the world economy. It must be remembered that the cheap borrowing of the past 15 years, fuelled today’s affordability problems.
Homeowners during this period benefited from ultra-low rates in two major ways: cheap mortgage rates and repayments, and a surge in the value of their property.
The high rates of the past two years are in fact a return to normality, with prospective homeowners having to acknowledge that a significant financial sacrifice will have to be made if they are purchasing a property of their own. This means that holidays, new cars, eating out and home improvements will have to take a back seat for the next few years.
General feedback is that the majority of people who make this lifestyle change have no regrets, as it will mean, amongst many other things free accommodation in retirement once the mortgage has been fully repaid.
John Quemard, chairman of the JEAA, continues to be optimistic about the future of the local property market, although he confirms that vendors must be more realistic and realise that the housing market has changed and that

what matters most is the price – ‘’if properties are priced accordingly and reflect market conditions then they will have a better chance of selling. Vendors who are reluctant to lower the asking price will sit on their properties for longer.’’
Estate Agents and Conveyancing lawyers confirm that the market continues to be active despite the annual slowdown for summer holidays.
In a review of the transactions that have passed through the Royal Court in the last six weeks, it is interesting to see that there were 139 sales, of which 39 were below £500,000 whilst there were 31 transactions in the range £1m to £13m.
In the same period, share transfers accounted for an additional 35%, although these are not recorded in the public domain.
Our monthly check shows that a total of 1744 houses and flats are listed for sale on the places.je website which is a slight reduction from the numbers that we have seen in recent months.
Highlights include:
156 apartments in the range up to £300,000, with many having car parking spaces
401 apartments and houses in the range £300,000 to £500,000
328 apartments and houses between £500,000 and £700,000
246 houses and a few apartments in the range £700,000 to £1m.
181 houses and a few apartments are on offer in the range between £1m and £1.5m
133 houses and a few apartments between £1.5m and 2.5m
200 properties for sale in excess of £2.5m

It is interesting to see that only two months ago, there were 362 properties on offer in the range between £700,000 to £1m, with this number having now fallen to 246 – a clear indication that Homemovers are active in trading up to a larger property.

Our experience is that fortunately this does not happen frequently although when it does, it can cause huge upset and disruption, notwithstanding the loss of prepaid fees to lawyers, lenders and valuers.
Once again, there has been no change in the interest rates charged by all local lenders, and this is likely to be the case into the immediate future.
Our best advice is to consider fixing into a five year rate as this will offer stability and peace of mind in a world that could well change in the future.
