“There’s no place like home for the holidays.” – Perry Como “
Spending the whole summer in a country that resembles a furnace might not have been what the crooner had in mind when he sang that there’s no place like home for the holidays. But, there’s no doubt that, each year, more and more of us are travelling out of season and staying right here during the hottest months of the year.
If that’s you, you really don’t need to have vacation envy. Check out our lead feature this month for a selection of staycation offers that will let you enjoy that all-important holiday vibe, without a trip to the airport. And, if you’re not up for a hotel stay, then we’ve still got your covered. Our second feature details our top ways to keep cool – I’m a big fan of all things ice, so these are some of my favourite pages.
Our dining section has a distinctly eastern feel with trips to Chingari at the Radisson Blu Hotel and Nassayem at The Diplomatic Club as well as a little taste of Italy from Rocca at the Grand Hyatt.
Still out and about, my lucky colleagues got to check out the spa at Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas – a truly special sanctuary – and a mini-vacation at the gorgeous St. Regis Doha – jealous me? Not at all.
In travel, we look at last-minute breaks before it’s back to the school run and we’ve doubled up our fashion pages to make sure you look the part, should you be taking off for a few days.
Elsewhere we’ve got interviews with some of Doha’s movers and shakers, news from the worlds of motoring and tech and a new look for the entertainment section that I think you’ll like.
I’d love to know what you think. You can get in touch through our social media.

Ready for a spot of murder mystery combined with a good old-fashioned farcical romp? The Doha Players are bringing Clue to the stage this month in a performance that promises to tax your laughter muscles as well as your grey cells.
Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-whodunnit mystery.
The tale begins at the remote, slightly creepy and aptly named Boddy Manor, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party at which an early demise and blackmail are on the menu.
When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects.
Led by Wadsworth – the butler, Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock and Colonel Mustard race to find the killer as the body count stacks up and red herrings aplenty keep both characters and audience guessing.
Clue is the comedy whodunit that will leave both cult-fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to figure out who did it, where and with what. Our bet is Colonel Mustard, in the library with a candlestick, but don’t take our word for it, head to This Theatre, Al Thumama and find out for yourself.
The dress code is casual but fancy dress/cosplay are encouraged to add to the fun and the performance is recommended for ages 12 and above as it contains some adult themes.
The Doha Players is Qatar’s most well-known community theatre group and is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. Shows are always well put together and this offers a great opportunity to enjoy almost professional level performing art at a really reasonable price while supporting a great group of volunteers.
Takes place on August 20, 21 and 22 and again on September 10, 11 and 12 and regular tickets start at QR50 on Q Tickets. Doors open 30 minutes before the show starts. ✤

The latest exhibition from the Fire Station’s Artists in Residence programme draws on personal and collective memories to produce Printed Nostalgia.
Defined as a universal feeling, an emotional return to a moment, a place or a connection long past, nostalgia can be invoked by a memory of home, family, food or shared traditions. It speaks to something deeply human and familiar and this exhibition invites visitors to explore both personal and collective memories through printed works that reflect themes of architecture, culture, migration and everyday life.
Blending digital illustration, photography, painting, collage and written word, Printed Nostalgia transforms digital expressions into physical forms. The exhibition ends in a cosy, reflective room – a quiet invitation to pause and reconnect with your own memories. Just like the printed materials that once preserved our stories, this space celebrates the tangible power of remembering. The exhibition feature works by 99 Qatari and international artists, selected through an open international call that received 322 submissions from around the world.
Artists from around the world present their perspectives, offering a space where emotions, identities and histories intersect. Each print acts as a fragment of time – preserved, shared and reimagined. Director of Fire Station, Khalifa Al Obaidly told Qatar News Agency: "This exhibition embodies the power of art to transcend boundaries and connect viewers through shared human experiences. It reflects the diverse backgrounds of the artists as they explore common ground in memory and identity,
and it highlights the strong global response to the open call, emphasising a universal desire to preserve meaningful moments through artistic expression."
Participating artists include:
Abdulla Al-Obaidly, Abeer Awad, Agustina Mucci, Aya Chalabee, Esra Nesipogullari, Farah Anwar, Michel Antoun Saleeb, Mina Fekry, Segolene Ragu, Shaikha Alawajan, Yaqeen Yamani, Zaynab Al-Alawi and Ziad Ahmed as well as numerous others. The exhibition is curated by Saida Alkhulaifi and Fatima Alzaini with Saida commenting: “Nostalgia is a universal language that expresses our shared humanity. Through this exhibition, we witness how artists from around the world interpret concepts of memory, homeland and belonging. Printed media serves both as subject and medium, linking us to the tangible experiences that shape our understanding of the past and present.”
Running until September 1 at Fire Station Gallery 4, the exhibition is open Saturday to Thursday from 9am to 7pm and from 1.30pm to 7pm on Fridays. ✤
In a bold move blending fashion and music, fashion powerhouse Rabanne is partnering with Miraval Studios to reimagine a classic and spotlight the next wave of artists.
Music professionals have an exciting new opportunity to look forward to, as Rabanne launches a bold cultural initiative. At the heart of this project is a fully remastered rerelease of Judy Carter’s cult 1983 single, Listen To The Music – revived and reimagined under the direction of Grammy award-winning French producer Damien Quintard, who co-founded the rebirth of Miraval Studios, along with Oscar-winning actor Brad Pitt.
Listen To The Music was a disco-boogie gem, designed to get the dance floor buzzing with Judy’s warm, magnetic voice syncing beautifully with vibrant guitars and airy synths. A veritable disco anthem, this cult track –Rabanne’s very first musical reinterpretation – is now the starting point for a dialogue between past and present, supported by the fashion brand’s singular vision and Miraval’s acoustic signature.
This release isn’t just a nod to the past; it’s a resounding invitation to creators around the world to shape the sound of the future. To mark this moment, Rabanne is launching the #RabanneRemix challenge on TikTok – an open call to musicians, beatmakers and producers worldwide to remix
Judy’s timeless track and bring their own vision to life.
Participants will have the chance to win a residency at Miraval Studios in October this year, where they’ll collaborate with Damien and top-tier sound engineers to co-produce a new track.
“This is more than a music drop – it’s a tribute to Paco Rabanne’s enduring fusion of fashion, sound and avantgarde culture,” said a Rabanne spokesperson.
“It’s about celebrating our heritage while championing fresh talent with bold, boundary-pushing ideas.”
Open to all, the #RabanneRemix challenge invites you to rework Judy Carter’s 1983 track Listen To The Music
Download the vocal and instrumental stems from the official Rabanne website, remix it your way and post your version on TikTok by August 29. Don’t forget to tag @rabanne and mention #RabanneRemix, when posting. Good luck, all! ✤
Rosewood Doha has opened its doors, promising to be a destination of experience, meaning and memory.
Rooted in the organic shapes of coral formations and the flowing patterns of pearl-diving tradition, the hotel’s architecture reflects the fluid relationship between nature and innovation, with every line, texture and material telling a Qatari story.
Boasting 155 guest rooms and suites, 162 apartments and 276 residences, the property offers not just comfort, but character. Light shifts gently across walls in tones both warm and cool. Materials evoke the coast and the desert and much of the hotel’s visual storytelling is shaped by collaborations with leading Qatari artists, whose works appear throughout.
The cultural journey continues in the culinary spaces that anchor the property. Mila, the 24-hour Levantine brasserie, brings Middle Eastern comfort food into an elegant, contemporary setting. Asaya Kitchen takes a wellness-forward approach to Mediterranean cuisine. Koo Madame, inspired by 1920s’ Shanghai and the legacy of Madame Wellington Koo, blends bold Chinese flavours with theatrical flair and The Butterfly Room brings a sense of poetry to the hotel’s rhythm – a luminous setting for refined lunches, teas and evening gatherings. Here, the Butterfly Pâtisserie, helmed by award-winning chocolatier and Executive Pastry Chef Tony, transforms chocolate and pastry into art.
The Manor Club redefines the essence of a private guest lounge. Access is reserved for guests staying in rooms and suites with Manor Club privileges, as well as those enrolled in the Manor Club membership programme. Whether used as a morning workspace, a place to reconnect with a book or a quiet interlude between engagements, the Manor Club holds space for individual rhythms. Beyond the dining experience, Rosewood Doha’s programming offers guests quiet, curated windows into Qatar’s cultural rhythm. From guided dhow experiences and traditional falconry
introductions to calligraphy workshops and art studio visits.
At the heart of the property is Asaya, Rosewood’s social wellness club and the first of its kind in the country. From hydrotherapy rituals and immersive sound healing to biohacking and movement practices, Asaya is where high-tech meets high-touch.
Private gatherings and milestone events unfold across 3,477sq/m of thoughtfully designed space, where Qatari elegance meets modern sophistication. The ballroom offers a stately and adaptable venue for large-scale gatherings. And, adjacent to it, the Bridal House provides a serene and beautifully appointed space for preparations, quiet moments and reflection.
For those seeking a more intimate or bespoke environment, the Events Studio offers a one-of-a-kind experience where hosts can curate every element of their event – from the chinaware and table linens to the menu and ambiance.
Complementing these venues is The Pavilion, a residential-style setting ideal for elevated social events. With four versatile meeting salons, a private show kitchen, a refreshment area and adjoining living rooms, it offers the ease and intimacy of a gracious private residence. For more traditional gatherings, the Majlis provides a warm, refined setting that honours Qatar’s cultural heritage through a contemporary lens. Adding a distinct and practical edge to Rosewood Doha’s event offerings is a private car lift – a bold architectural feature designed to accommodate VIP arrivals and high-profile product launches.✤

The temperatures are hitting record highs but there are still plenty of ways to chill out with some of our favourite summer activities. From outdoor air conditioning to ice baths, here are our hottest summer coolers.
Of course, you could just take yourself to the mall – though, you might want to leave the credit card at home – but this is Qatar, so you don’t have to let the hot weather keep you indoors. We’re blessed with countless air-conditioned, outdoor walkways so you can keep fit and stay cool even when the sun’s burning hot. Check out Al Gharrafa Park, Oxygen Park and Umm Al Seneem park, which has the world’s longest walking track with AC.
Ditch the stiff seats and chattering audience and head to a VIP bigscreen experience where you’ll stay chilled enough to enjoy the proffered blanket. Expect big, super-comfy seats – there’s even a twin-seater sofa – with a dining table in easy reach, a personal butler to bring you drinks and goodies from a curated menu. Add superb audio quality that surrounds you in every direction and this really is cinema with a difference. You can find VIP options at both Novo Cinemas and Vox. You just choose the film.
GO: Visit om.novocinemas.com or qat.voxcinemas.com
Ice, Ice Baby (Bath)
It might seem a bit extreme, but then, so’s our summer weather. We love the idea of a bit of breath therapy followed by submersion in an ice bath. When you get out, your blood vessels expand and pump the oxygen- and nutrient-rich blood back to your body's tissues, including your muscles. Great for after-sports recovery but also a novel way to cool down on a scorching hot day. Sessions at Recovery Lab Qatar start at QR150.
GO: Visit recoverylabqatar.com for more information.
Ice Cream Galore
We couldn’t talk chill without mentioning our favourite sweet treats for this time of year. Whether you’re a fan of gelato, sorbet or good old-fashioned creamy desserts, Qatar has it all. And there are some seriously fun flavours about this year. Check out goat cheese and figs at Joy General Café or the strawberry cheesecake Labubu Ice Cream at Origami (your kids will love this). And, of course, we have to mention the Insta-loved Mystical fruit pops and Milky’s towering soft serve, officially Qatar’s tallest ice cream and one of our personal faves.
Ice Skating Fun
A great ice breaker (pun intended) and a fun activity for all the family, lace up your boots and take to the ice for a session at Gondolania at Villagio Mall. It might be hot outside but you’ll definitely cool down here at this Olympic-sized facility, you’ll even need to wrap up warm. And it’s not just a great way to chill out but is also beneficial for balance and fitness – even if you’re not very good! Public sessions are available daily on a first come, first served basis, priced QR55 per person.
GO: Visit @gondolaniaicearena for more information.
If you want snow in Qatar, where else would you go but the first Arabian-themed snow park in the world. The snow is said to be identical to that found in nature, registering a super chilly minus four degrees, and the park has a great selection of rides and activities, such as ice skating and snow guns, and even offers the chance to climb to the top of Snowy Mount. Don’t forget to wrap up warm. We’re rather partial to a hot cuppa while we’re there. You can book two hours on a Tuesday for QR89 and there’s a special summer offer of three parks – Snow Dunes, Angry Birds World and Virtuocity for one ticket, priced QR199.
GO: Visit @snowdunesqatar for more information.
A chilly oasis where it’s winter all year round – and not just Qatar winter but the proper kind with ice aplenty, frozen treats and dreamy hot drinks. Now, to be honest, an ice lounge in 40-plus degrees does seem slightly crazy but it’s one of the best places we’ve found to really cool down – so much so that you’ll be glad of one of the toasty blanket coats on offer. Expect stunning ice sculptures, frosty culinary treats and creamy gelato as well as the obligatory warming hot chocolate and excellent coffee to heat you up from the inside out. Entry starts at QR95 for one guest, including unlimited drink of choice, and there are discounts for groups.
GO: Visit @subzero.qa for more information.
It’s always cooler on the water and, even better, summer is whale shark season, the ideal time to learn more about these fascinating creatures of the deep. Each year, from April to September, hundreds of whale sharks gather just off Qatar’s northwest coast. Lured by rich plankton waters and warm currents, these majestic creatures frequently breach the ocean surface to feed in incredible numbers. And you can experience the spectacle with trips from Al Ruwais Port priced from QR710.

There’s something instantly calming about climbing into a Volvo. Maybe it’s the simplicity, perhaps the brand’s reputation for safety or possibly it’s just the fact that everything in the design is there for a reason. Volvos have a way of winning you over, without making a scene – smooth, sensible and just a little bit smug in the best way. So, when the team at Volvo Cars Qatar handed us the keys to the 2025 XC90 B5, the mild-hybrid luxury SUV, we had a feeling we were in for something quietly brilliant. Spoiler: we weren’t wrong.
The XC90 has never been one to scream for attention, and that’s a big part of its charm. This refresh keeps the same elegant silhouette but adds the right amount of sharpness. It’s like seeing an old friend after a good haircut – recognisable, but just a little more put together.
There’s a new crispness to the lines, with a chrome-accented grille, sleek LED headlights and bright aluminium window trim that gives it a refined polish. Our test model came with 21inch diamond-cut alloys that not only looked the part but also contributed to a smooth, composed ride.
The panoramic sunroof adds a lovely sense of openness both inside and out, while the roof rails offer a hint of versatility – even if they’ll probably never carry more than a cargo box.
If the outside was about quiet confidence, the inside was all about calm luxury. The cabin feels like it was designed by someone who understands how to make long trips comfortable and who probably owns one too many cashmere throws.
The dashboard stretches horizontally, creating a broad, open feel. Grey ash décor, vertical air vents and soft-touch materials surrounded us, while small details, like the Orrefors crystal gear selector, added just the right amount of flair.
The ventilated Nappa seats are an experience in themselves. They heat, cool, power adjust and have memory settings for multiple drivers. No one gets the short straw in this seven-seater, as even the third row gets its own vents and climate controls.
Storage has been thoughtfully improved, with a redesigned centre console offering space for phones, drinks, snacks and the usual everyday bits. Subtle ambient lighting adds a warm glow in the evenings, making the entire cabin feel more like a lounge than a car.
The new Google-powered infotainment system is genuinely one of the easiest we’ve used. The 11-inch touchscreen is responsive, intuitive and mercifully free of confusing menus. Voice commands work well too, even with music playing and windows open. Behind the wheel, the 12-inch digital display keeps key information right where you need it. But if you love your tunes, the real star of the show is the Harman Kardon sound system. It delivered rich, immersive audio across every genre – even our guilty pleasure playlists.
Other innovative features include a discreet wireless charging pad, seamless integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and full connectivity through the Volvo Cars app.
While the B5 may not be a plug-in, it still utilises mild-hybrid technology to enhance efficiency and smoothness. The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine is supported by a 48V battery and an integrated starter-generator, helping to reduce fuel consumption and emissions without the need for plugging in.
On the road, the B5 delivered responsive acceleration and a composed drive, thanks to the eight-speed Geartronic automatic and adaptive power steering. The all-wheel drive setup provided us with confident grip on both city streets and open highways. It’s not designed to pin you to the seat, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s about making everyday driving smoother, calmer and just a little more refined, which it does effortlessly.
If you’re after more electric range and performance, Volvo also offers the XC90 as a T8 plug-in hybrid. It delivers up to 70km of pure electric driving and combines this with strong petrol performance for a total output of 462hp. Ideal if you want more punch with fewer fuel stops.
It felt like the car was constantly one step ahead, whether merging onto busy roads or navigating tight parking spots.”
Volvo has long been a showpiece for automotive safety and the XC90 continues that legacy. Pilot assist, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, tyre pressure monitoring and a 360-degree camera system all come as standard on the B5, along with a comprehensive suite of passive systems.
It felt like the car was constantly one step ahead, whether merging onto busy roads or navigating tight parking spots. Add in a reinforced safety cage, ISOFIX mounts and an integrated booster seat and it’s clear families are top of mind here.
The 2025 Volvo XC90 B5 is a masterclass in understated luxury. It’s comfortable, clever and confidently safe – no drama, no unnecessary flair – just a beautifully built SUV that understands the assignment. ✤
This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed saw Maserati reveal the MCPURA, a performance-focussed evolution of the MC20 Halo Car, available in coupé and convertible versions.
Maserati has taken the covers off its latest super sports car, the MCPURA, at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Available as a coupé and a convertible (known as Cielo), the model builds on the legacy of the MC20 but takes refinement, performance and styling several steps further.
Built around a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis, the MCPURA remains lightweight at under 1,500kg, giving it a weight-to-power ratio of 2.33kg/CV. It’s powered by Maserati’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 Nettuno engine, producing 630CV at 7500rpm and 720Nm of torque from 3000rpm. First introduced with the MC20, this engine features an innovative pre-chamber combustion system with twin spark plugs. This technology is derived from Formula 1 and is now available in an engine adapted for the road. Design updates focus on both aesthetics and function. The Butterfly doors are retained, offering easier access while exposing the carbon-fibre chassis. In the Cielo version, the car is fitted with a retractable glass roof that can switch from opaque to transparent in just one second, thanks to polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) technology.
“With MCPURA, Maserati is once again regaining its rightful place: at the top and in its stomping ground,” said Santo Ficili, Maserati COO. “Both versions – coupé and Cielo – are created at our historic Modena facility, where the heart of the Trident has been beating for almost 90 years.”
The launch car appeared in a sophisticated Ai Aqua Rainbow –a custom blue paint developed through the Maserati Fuoriserie customisation programme. Matte for the coupé and gloss for the convertible, the paint shifts subtly in sunlight, creating a rainbowlike effect. Magenta-blue mica detailing on the grille, insignia and wheels add contrast, while Alcantara Ice seats inside feature a
laser-etched Trident motif, with iridescent double-sided backing in red and blue, creating a sporty elegance.
The colour palette for MCPURA is eye-catching and evocative, consisting of more than 30 shades from the Maserati Fuoriserie programme, whether solid, metallic, three-layer, four-layer or matte. New options include Devil Orange, Verde Royale and Night Interaction, allowing for both bold and understated configurations.
MCPURA is produced entirely at Maserati’s historic Modena facility, where both the Nettuno engine and bodywork are built. This is also where Fuoriserie versions are painted and finished. The car marks another step forward for Maserati’s modern identity – one that keeps its passion for performance at its centre and encompasses everything that makes the Maserati driving experience unique. ✤
Porsche is expanding its 911 series with three models. The latest edition of the Carrera 4S is being launched as a coupé and cabriolet alongside the Targa 4S.
This doubles the number of all-wheel-drive variants of the 911, with the extensively revised powertrain giving the all-wheel-drive sports car a significant boost with additional individualisation options and an expanded list of standard equipment.
The new all-wheel drive variants of the 911 adopt the upgraded drive system of the Carrera S. Its 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder boxer engine produces around 473hp. That’s almost 30hp more than in the predecessor model. An eight-speed Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK) transmits power to all four wheels and the 911 Carrera 4S Coupé accelerates from 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds (with Sport Chrono Package) and to a top speed of 308km/h.
For 60 years, the 911 Targa has combined the pleasure of a convertible with the year-round comfort of a coupé. The Targa body style made its debut in September 1965 at the IAA in Frankfurt am Main and was dubbed as the ‘safety cabriolet’. Like so many Porsche innovations, the elegant, wide roll bar is inspired by motorsport. With a removable roof and folding rear window, the car provided safety-conscious drivers the sensation of travelling in a full convertible. Porsche derived the Targa name from the famous Sicilian endurance race, the Targa Florio. Today, the Porsche 911 Targa is an icon in its own right, constantly further developed in terms of engineering and design over six decades. Since 2006, the 911 Targa has been available exclusively with all-wheel drive. From 2014 onwards, fully automatic roof mechanisms have been used: in 19 seconds, the coupé-like sports
car is transformed into an open-top vehicle. The glass rear window folds backwards and the roof segment folds elegantly. The wide roll bar and the wraparound rear window are a clear reminiscence of the original model. The roof module of the current Targa is available in four colours: black, blue, red and brown.
The standard equipment has been significantly upgraded compared to the previous models. This includes 20/21-inch staggered-fitment Carrera S wheels with an updated design, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) and a sports exhaust system with a distinctive sound typical of the 911. Equipped as standard is the braking system carried over from the GTS models, with red brake callipers and 408mm discs at the front and 380mm at the rear. The 911 Targa 4S features rear-wheel steering as standard. While the Cabriolet and Targa are equipped with rear seats, Porsche delivers the coupé as a two-seater as standard. A rear seat system can be configured at no extra cost.
Porsche equips the interior of the all-wheel-drive sports car with a leather package. In addition, matrix LED headlights and wireless smartphone charging are also included as standard. Other features include electrically folding exterior mirrors with mirror surround lighting, the Light Design Package and automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor. Several other options for individualisation are available on request, including a wide variety of colour and material combinations as well as sound, assistance and roof systems. ✤

The Multi-Property General Manager for Marriott Marquis City Center Doha Hotel and Marriott Executive Apartments City Center Doha on the draw of the Gulf, hospitality trends and a connection with nature.
Congratulations on your recent appointment. What prompted you to make the move from Canada to Qatar?
Thank you. Making the move from Canada to Qatar was both a professional and personal decision. I have always been drawn to markets that are dynamic, fast evolving and full of opportunity and Doha certainly fits that description. The Middle East has such a rich hospitality culture, and I was excited by the chance to lead two distinct Marriott properties here, work with diverse teams and contribute to the growth of a market that’s constantly pushing forward.
What are your plans for the properties for the rest of the year and into the future – any new developments you can tell us about?
We have some exciting momentum building across both properties. At Marriott Marquis City Center Doha, our focus remains on continuously elevating the guest experience from innovative and refreshed F&B (food and beverage) programming to reimagining spaces in ways that spark connection and tell a story through every detail.
At Marriott Executive Apartments, we are already underway with a renovation project that will introduce a refreshed, homeaway-from-home experience for our long-stay guests. Expect a more modern, comfortable living space making long stays feel effortless and enjoyable.
What are your thoughts on current trends in the hospitality industry both in Qatar and the wider region and how will you position your properties to take advantage of these?
One of the biggest shifts we are seeing is the growing expectation for personalised, purpose-driven hospitality. Guests today
want more than just a stay, they want experiences that reflect local culture, wellness, sustainability and authenticity. Qatar, in particular, is becoming a hub for experiential travel, with events, gastronomy and design playing major roles.
Our approach is to stay agile and listen, whether it's through evolving our culinary offerings, enhancing wellness touchpoints or integrating tech in smarter ways. Both our properties are uniquely positioned to respond to these trends, offering scale, diversity and flexibility while remaining deeply people centric.
If you could swap jobs with one position across your properties for a day, what would it be and why?
I would choose to be a doorman, without question. There is something incredibly powerful about being the first and last impression a guest has. A warm smile, a heartfelt welcome or a thoughtful farewell can completely shape someone’s stay. It’s a role filled with quiet impact, and I have always admired how our doormen manage to create those memorable, emotional touchpoints, sometimes with just a few words.
On a more personal note, what’s at the top of your bucket list? Africa has always been at the top of my list, especially those magical moments you see in travel stories where you are having breakfast while giraffes gently stroll past you. It’s that unique connection with nature that really speaks to me.
Now that I have moved to the Middle East, I am also hoping to explore more of the region. Egypt and Jordan are both high on my travel radar which are destinations rich with history, culture and timeless beauty. There is so much to see, learn and experience in this part of the world, and I am really looking forward to the journey. ✤
Women’s empowerment was very definitely on the menu when Myrna Al Haddad, founder of
Beauty Lounge, brought together ladies from across Qatar for a special networking dinner event.
The gathering, dubbed La Dolce Vita, was held at Bar Du Port as a flagship experience under the salon’s Beauty Privilege Elite Club initiative and it’s a prelude to many more exciting happenings planned for the future.
Myrna explains: “We launched the Beauty Privilege Elite Club to bring together women who are redefining elegance, ambition and sisterhood in Qatar and beyond. It was never just about beauty – it was about creating a curated space where women could connect, feel seen and feel celebrated. La Dolce Vita embodied exactly that: softness with power, beauty with purpose and indulgence with intention.”
Just under 50 specially chosen guests attended, all personally invited based on one thing: impact. “Whether a businesswoman, a creative, a student or a silent powerhouse in her community –every woman there had a story worth sharing,” says Myrna. “We weren’t looking for influencers. We were looking for influencers of energy – women who elevate the room just by walking in.”
Attendees came from diverse industries and nationalities – from business owners and entrepreneurs to creatives and dreamers – all united by a shared commitment to growth, connection and empowerment. And the reaction was overwhelmingly positive. “Honestly, it was emotional at times,” says Myrna. “I had women coming up to me saying: ‘No one’s ever created a space like this for us – soft, elegant but empowering.’ That’s when I knew this wasn’t a one-off moment. It was a beginning!”
The beauty lounge founder calls the gathering the first step in a greater mission to foster a thriving, supportive society for women in Qatar across all sectors, with inspiration coming from the ladies
she meets. She explains: “At Pinky Blush, I meet incredible women every day – and I realised that beauty was just the surface. There’s so much ambition, pain, brilliance and resilience beneath the polish. I wanted to build a platform, not just a salon. A real ecosystem where women could rise together – not silently, not separately.”
The future of the initiative looks bright with plans for curated programmes, retreats, mentorship circles and themed salons where real conversations happen. Think beauty meets business, elegance meets empowerment. “Whether it’s financial literacy, emotional well-being or personal branding – I want to give women the tools, the network and the softness to rise with grace,” says Myrna. With a declaration that the future is female and it’s arriving in full force, she feels the role of women in Qatari society is changing.
“Women in Qatar are no longer asking for permission – we’re building our own rooms, our own brands, our own legacies,” she says. “What’s beautiful is that we’re doing it without letting go of our femininity. We’re not trading power for softness – we’re embracing both. That shift is happening right now, and I’m proud to be part of it. Myrna is planning to launch a structured series of events for 2026. Called The Elegant Rise, it will be a year-long programme combining personal development, leadership training, wellness and intentional networking. Designed for women who want to build something of substance, whether it’s a business, a platform or a version of themselves they’ve been holding back, she describes it as: “Elegance in motion. Structured, soft, powerful.”
She continues: “My message is simple: you belong in this room. Whether you’re loud or quiet, established or just starting, there’s space for you here. You don’t have to be perfect – you just have to show up.”

Hicham Alahmad, Senior Executive Sous Chef, Alwadi Hotel Doha – MGallery Collection, explains how his background has shaped his kitchen philosophy.
You come from a family of cooks. Please tell us about your culinary background and your kitchen inspirations. I grew up in a family where cooking was part of daily life. My earliest memories are of the kitchen, especially the warmth of our family restaurant in Syria. I began with pastry, but my heart was always in Arabic cuisine. I’m inspired by traditional recipes, local ingredients and the way food connects people emotionally. My style blends Middle Eastern roots with modern touches, refined yet soulful.
What prompted you to move from the pastry kitchen, where you started, to taking on a wider role?
Pastry taught me precision and patience, but I was drawn to the energy of the hot kitchen and the creative freedom it offered. Expanding my role allowed me to tell deeper culinary stories through Levantine and Mediterranean flavours. Leading a full kitchen lets me shape a broader dining experience from concept to plate while still carrying that detail-oriented mindset pastry gave me.
You have been at Alwadi since the pre-opening. What were the main challenges you faced then and how do you see your
role going forward several years later – what’s your main ambition for the hotel’s culinary offerings?
Pre-opening was both exciting and intense. We were building something from the ground up, assembling a team, designing menus and creating a culinary identity that reflects the MGallery brand and Doha’s heritage. Today, I’m proud of how far we’ve come. My ambition is to position our outlets as local favourites and culinary destinations. I aim to continue blending authenticity with innovation, all while promoting sustainability and local sourcing.
Please tell us about your signature dish, Truffle Jedi Bel Zit. Where does it originate from? How as it developed and what makes it popular?
The Jedi Bel Zit is a cherished traditional dish from Damascus, deeply rooted in our culinary culture and made using locally sourced ingredients. I’ve reimagined it with a refined touch –elevating the original by adding porcini mushrooms, braised potatoes and finishing it with a hint of truffle oil. This version brings together the soul of Levantine comfort food and the elegance of French technique, creating a dish that feels both nostalgic and elevated. ✤
SD discovered a sweet spot for both eyes and palate on a visit to The Diplomatic Club.
In the flood of fancy dining experiences in Doha, Nassayem Qatar is a delight for all the senses and a pleasant change. This unassuming Japanese eatery offers much more than meets the eye and has been under the radar for far too long. In a scenic location at The Diplomatic Club, this is a refreshing and impressive dining spot. The drive past The View Hospital to arrive at The Diplomatic Club almost makes us feel like we're in a different, more aesthetic part of Qatar. A beautiful lagoon on the right, dotted with trees and greenery, sets the tone for the dining experience at Nassayem.
The Diplomatic Club entrance is regal and exclusive. Majestic chandeliers, dramatic drapes and luxurious upholstery are just a few highlights as we make our way to the restaurant on the ground floor. There are two dining areas – indoor and outdoor. The outdoors is absolutely spectacular. It's our first visit to this place and, after 14 years in Doha, we're ashamed that we hadn't discovered it earlier. What a scene! A massive waterfall stands grand right in front of us, adjacent to a wooden bridge above a makeshift river. The entire space is covered in lush grass, and it feels like an oasis in the midst of a crowded city. There are trees everywhere, and the sounds of the waterfall are so calming. As the colours change every few seconds, they keep our sight and other senses engaged. You can tell that a lot of thought has gone into this landscaping.
As much as we are swept away by this space, it's relatively warm this evening, so we choose to dine indoors. And the airconditioned area does not disappoint. The wooden floors, decorated ceilings and stained-glass, antique-style mirrors catch our attention as we settle into a cosy table for two.
Chef Joseph introduces himself and promises us we're going to have a good evening. Spoiler alert – the promise was kept. Marianne is our host for the night and she starts us off with some refreshing lemon mint drinks to cool down.
We are trying the Japanese set menu featuring appetisers, a selection of sushi, main course and dessert. An à la carte menu is available too, but it features many of the same items. The set menu option is definitely good value.
As we finish considering the options, Marianne surprises us with wonderfully scented hot towels. And shortly after, salted edamame and a delicious Kani Salad reach our table. The portions are really generous and the Kani Salad is simple, with some much-needed umami. One can never go wrong with edamame.
The sushi selection is divided into cooked and uncooked. We get a total of 20 pieces and each maki is rolled to perfection. Included in the platter are Salmon Sushi Roll, Crazy California Roll, Grilled Salmon, Crab Maki and many more. The plate is so colourful, it is a proper celebration. And the party is in our mouths.
For mains, we are asked to choose from four options: prawns, chicken, beef or salmon. The Prawns Tempura with mirin soy sauce and white rice looks like a winner. The batter is crispy, and a little dip in the sauce, combined with the fragrant rice, makes the perfect bite. Our second main, the Beef Teriyaki, is just as good. Thoroughly cooked with the savoury flavour of mushrooms, the cubes of beef are truly indulgent. The portions are really generous and all of this feels like too much for two people – but of course, that's never something we'd complain about. A decadent Matcha Cheesecake graces our table for a sweet
ending. Alongside it, a vibrant platter of fruits elevates the dessert experience and, despite reaching our physical limits of consumption, we finish every bite of the selection, which includes strawberries, raspberries, watermelon and more.
The service has been flawless and Marianne has been splendid tonight. We reflect on a wonderful evening as we sip jasmine tea. This dinner at Nassayem really uplifts an otherwise regular weeknight. Japanese food in an undiscovered location is probably the best way to surprise your significant other or a group of friends you want to impress. Bookmark this place and then book your table, you're going to love it. ✤
SD discovered a revamped haven that’s even better than before on a visit to Chingari.
Chingari at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Doha has been impressing us consistently for decades now. Every resident, new or long-term, knows where to go for some of the best Indian food. So, what could possibly make one of the city's favourite dining experiences better? A total transformation, of course.
A few months ago, our beloved staple for authentic Indian food underwent a complete face-lift emerging into a lighter, brighter space that really upped its flavour game.
We enter through the reconstructed pathway and it feels so much more refined, modern and stylish. The dining area now looks massive, while still maintaining intimacy. We are welcomed by a drinks area right inside and a stage across the left end. The new colour scheme is beautiful - rose gold and dusty rose walls anchored by circular ceiling lights with a woven texture casting a soft glow across the space. Everything is in sync and the attention to detail is immaculate. From lattice dividers and intricate paintings on the walls to mustard and terracotta cushioned seating, the space feels very well thought out and stays contemporary with strong nods to Indian traditions and culture.
As soon as we are seated, the quintessential papad and yoghurt chutney make an appearance. There is no better way to start an Indian meal – at least in a restaurant. Meanwhile, the hostess, draped in a colourful Indian sari, takes our drink orders. Cranberry punch sounds great and as we're about to take our first sip, the most melodious tunes start to play. A talented band sits in front of us on the newly renovated and majestic stage. The four-piece features live singers and musicians playing a variety of traditional Indian instruments. They take us back to the retro days of Bollywood with some classic numbers. The stage is set, literally, for an unforgettable evening.
The starters arrive and Chef Jograj's Platter commands attention. All the grills, and the best of Chingari's tandoor, are right here. A brilliantly spiced lamb, fish tikka, perfectly grilled prawns with the heads on and some chicken. Everything goes perfectly with the Yoghurt Chutney on the side.
The Bukani Kebab comes highly recommended and we know why. The lamb mince is so tender and delicately marinated with aromatic spices, herbs and green chillies, it's almost addictive.
The Paneer Tikka Sunehri is something we've never tried before. We are filled with regret at our lateness – what a fantastic plate. This butter-soft paneer with an incredible marinade comprised of creamy yoghurt and the warmth and comfort of saffron has easily become one of the best paneer dishes we've tried, and not just in Doha. We can't recommend it enough and can't stop eating it either. It sounds as though we've eaten a lot, but the food doesn't feel heavy, yet. The mains start to arrive one by one and we're slightly overwhelmed but in the best way. An authentic bowl of spiced Daal Tadka whets our appetite, with fresh garlic naan. What an epic combination and a staple in every Indian household, but Chingari somehow manages to really elevate even the simplest of offerings.
The Butter Chicken and Paneer Makhanwala are just as impressive. But it’s the Nihari Lamb that simply stuns. A grand serving of spicy, smoky curry with two tender lamb shanks protruding from
the copper serving bowl – you know Chingari means business. This beloved rural recipe is slow cooked overnight on a traditional Indian brassier. This is a dish fit for royalty. Dip your naan in and mix it up with the daal – there are no rules when eating Indian food – and you've got yourself a flavour bomb. At this point, we find ourselves at a crossroads. Do we continue indulging in the savouries or get dessert. The choice becomes imminently clear when we see Gajar Halwa on the menu, one of our favourite Indian sweet dishes. We order it, of course, and delight in the warm, sweet carrot pudding with spices that transform the flavours of the humble vegetable.
The Shahi Tukda dates back to the royal Mughal kitchens and is a sweet dish prepared to showcase luxury. Fried bread is drowned in condensed milk, highlighted by saffron, pistachios and other nuts. Strawberries border the plate and we relish every bite. Chingari's signature Pista Kulfi is a must-try for our last dish and we love the texture of this milky ice cream, covered in nuts. It has been a sensational evening as we slowly wrap up and thank our hosts. Everyone is all smiles, they know we've ordered far too much and nothing makes them prouder. That's the essence of Indian hospitality – abundance is love and generosity is tradition. And let's be honest, after this renovation, we've fallen in love with Chingari all over again. ✤ GO:

AMS sampled the new menu at Rocca and discovered satisfyingly traditional tastes coupled with a warm and smiling welcome.
We stepped into Rocca, at the Grand Hyatt Doha Hotel & Villas, and found ourselves in a bright, contemporary space a stone's throw from the hotel pool. Bold red walls caught my eye immediately. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered perfect views across the water, reminding us of a past cruise ship experience. The staff pulled out wicker chairs with deep crimson cushions and, as we took our seats, we admired the food-themed artwork on the walls.
Nam, our server, arrived promptly, beaming her genuine smile at us and asking us for our drinks order. She excitedly informed us that we would have the privilege of testing out the new menu, crafted by Chef Marco. The chef himself then appeared and talked us through the concept, explaining how the revamped offerings are classic Italian favourites, cooked with passion and bursting with flavour.
As he spoke, the breadbasket arrived. There were three types on offer: fluffy white bread, nutty wholemeal and thin breadsticks covered in sesame seeds. The olive oil and balsamic vinegar proved dangerously moreish and before we knew it, the basket was empty.
Our starters soon appeared, looking vibrant and appealing. The burrata salad consisted of creamy cheese sitting on a medley of roasted vegetables. Chef Marco helped us identify all the ingredients, including fennel seeds, sun-dried tomatoes, red
peppers, aubergine and courgette. The vegetables had a lovely sweetness with hints of smoke, whilst the cheese was perfectly soft and creamy. A delicious combination that disappeared quickly. The Caprese Salad was beautifully simple. The mozzarella had proper texture – without that rubberiness you sometimes encounter. Ripe, juicy tomatoes paired with peppery rocket and cress. Each forkful was refreshing and clean – exactly what we wanted to kick-off our meal.
As we tucked into the food, Chef Marco dutifully did his rounds. We watched as he visited every table, pausing to chat with diners, making sure everyone was catered for and happy. We remarked how his personal attention is the sort of detail that draws people in and guarantees return visits.
When our mains arrived, the aromas immediately jogged us out of our reverie. In front of us, a perfectly cooked Pizza Sofia. This slightly different type of pizza came without tomato sauce. Instead, it was topped with tangy cheese, tender aubergine slices, onion and generous drizzles of pesto oil. The base had that perfect contrast – a crispy exterior with a satisfyingly chewy centre. The whole pizza was kissed with a subtle smokiness from the wood-fired oven.
Next up, pure comfort food in the form of Chef’s Pink Pasta. The dish contained hearty tubes of paccheri pasta generously
covered in pink sauce. Everything was enriched with creamy ricotta, sweet roasted peppers and a small pinch of black pepper. We kept going long past the point of being full.
But we were far from done. Next up, Chicken Cacciatore. The succulent thigh meat was accompanied by a savoury tomato sauce, roast potatoes, courgettes and carrots. The plate was also dotted with briny olives that added a welcome hit of saltiness. This classic dish had us reaching for more bread to scrape up the remaining sauce, we didn’t want to miss a morsel.
Despite being delightfully stuffed, we couldn't resist dessert. The Crème Brûlée cracked beautifully under our spoons, revealing silky custard flavoured with hazelnut. The Tiramisu was also a revelation. Light-as-air mascarpone and coffee-soaked sponge with a sprinkle of cocoa to finish it off.
Throughout the evening, Nam looked after us perfectly. She was attentive without being intrusive. It was this combination of thoughtful service, lovely surroundings and genuinely good food that made us enjoy it so much. We left thinking this would be an ideal spot for a meal after a day by the pool. If you want tasty, classic Italian favourites, Rocca delivers. ✤

We experienced the essence of grand hospitality during a stay at The St. Regis Doha.
This weekend, we're checking in for a staycation at, arguably, Qatar's finest address – The St Regis Doha. This stunning property in West Bay Lagoon area is a mainstay among Qatar's luxury offerings. As soon as we step inside, it’s instantly clear we’re about to have one of the best experiences we've enjoyed in a while.
We walk past a regal lobby with an incredibly striking flower display and cascading chandeliers, and check ourselves in. It's an easy, smooth process and barely minutes later, we enter our abode for the weekend.
The calming palette of creams and navy blues catches our eyes before anything else. The Deluxe Sea View King room is spacious, airy and luxurious. A navy leather headboard adds sophistication to the space and it's interesting how we already feel like royalty.
And things soon get better. The butler service arrives and Yesha introduces herself. Is it too soon to feel this special? Probably not at The St Regis. Yesha tells us we can order any beverage of our choice as well as laundry services, shoe shining and, probably the best service we've ever heard of at a luxury hotel, packing and unpacking. It’s even better than royalty!
The TV showcases highlights of Doha from dune bashing to information on how to get around. It’s the perfect start to a vacation for anyone visiting or, for long-time residents, just appreciating the beauty of Doha on screen.
We start our evening with dinner at Rivaaj. One of the crowning jewels of the hotel’s culinary repertoire, this Indian fine-dining restaurant is impressive at the very first glance. The space feels like a cocoon of modern elegance, with refined interiors and Indian-themed motifs everywhere. The sweeping ceiling is accented by circular lighting, casting a warm glow. Golden vertical slats create little private spaces, without feeling closed off. We start with a few classics such as Raj Kachori and the result is art at our table and in our mouths. Another mentionworthy starter is the Wagyu Pav – with homemade bread and meat so tender it melts like butter. What makes this dish special is the Rechad marinade, a famous Goan spice paste. Everything feels elevated but really nostalgic. The live Bollywood music adds comfort and we get lost in some magical tunes.
For mains, the Coconut Shell Baked Lobster Curry is probably one of the best curries we've tried – rich, creamy and packed with coastal flavours. They say you can tell how good an Indian restaurant is by just tasting its Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani. We’re pleased to report these dishes exceed our expectations. There is no compromise on taste and each dish is masterfully presented. Chef Satish knows exactly what he's doing. He's the king of flavours and that's putting it humbly. We end the night with a decadent Mango Rasmalai and a Karak Crème Brûlée –and we highly recommend both.
An epic Thursday night concludes with an unforgettable night view of Doha, as we draw the curtains and tuck into
the softest mattress we've experienced for a very long time. The crispy white linens feel like clouds and the master control panel is right by our bedside. We sink in and turn off for the night.
We awake to the most beautiful sunrise. Qatar's turquoise blue waters and brilliant sunshine through the floor-toceiling windows fill our room with light and happiness. The views are unmatched and call for a cup of coffee from the machine at the mini bar while soaking in the views from the couch in the very spacious seating area.
As much as we'd like to spend the whole morning here, breakfast is waiting for us at Fauchon Paris Qatar. The fuchsia pinks, cream tones and delicate leaves floating from the ceiling create a whimsical ambience. This chic Parisian café is the perfect start to the day, especially if you're having the signature blend Green Tea with Strawberries and a special Fauchon flavour. You'll have to try it to find out what it is. The breakfast is generous and really highlights French excellence with delicate pastries, perfectly cooked eggs and an excellent cappuccino to wash everything down. Next stop – Guerlain Spa for an indulgent morning treatment. We’re scheduled for the Imperial Relaxing Massage. Dizhar introduces the spa and shows us around, then our therapist escorts us to a luxurious room. The next hour passes by faster than we'd like. Our therapist is an expert in detecting areas of tension and masterfully
switching between light and medium pressures to relax the muscles. We're not ready to leave and want to spend some time in the Jacuzzi, but another dining affair awaits. So, we quickly check out the perfume collection, available for purchase, before heading out.
If you've lived in Doha long enough, you’ll surely have heard of The Grand Brunch. During cooler times, the terrace at Vine Restaurant fully opens up for one of the city's best afternoon dining experiences.
We sit indoors this time, and sample all the brunch favourites. The Seafood Bar piques our interest with oysters, lobster, mussels, tiger prawns and all that good stuff. A large open display fridge reads St. Regis Signature Morning Delights and we're delighted to see mini sandwiches. We grab a few and some healthy options to go along with them –balance is everything.
We try some pasta from the live station and a few more signature delicacies before we finish off with mini desserts from a massive sweet buffet.
Post brunch, there's only one thing to do. Enjoy Doha's golden hours from our gorgeous room. We try that luxury butler service and have our clothes ironed in time for a much-anticipated steak dinner.
Astor Grill has always been one of Doha's best steakhouses but, ever since the revamp, the venue has really been uplifted to a new level. The space is so stylish, sleek and
contemporary yet still reminiscent of a dark-toned diner. The pickled eggplant butter with sourdough and brioche is a really impressive way to show us what they've planned for our dining experience tonight.
Since we're at a steakhouse, our choice of mains is clear. The Wagyu Tenderloin is 200 grams of buttery soft meat with great marbling. The Potato Millefeuille that sits alongside is an absolutely perfect carb creation. Crispy edges, waferthin layers and the essence of Rosemary hidden in between every strip of perfectly cooked potato – what a treat.
Top service from our host Oscar and an incredibly indulgent chocolate dessert later, we are ready to retire for the night and hit the sack.
It's our last day of relaxation and we start off with a breakfast at the all-day diner. The sweetest hostess Rahma introduces herself and takes our coffee and eggs order – both of which can be customised from the breakfast menu. We prefer the breakfast buffet for everything else – it looks smashing. It is the last leg and we're one afternoon experience away from checking out. We choose the lobby lounge, famous nationwide for its afternoon teas.
Sarab Lounge is a true gem. Floor-to-ceiling windows, comfortable and beautifully upholstered couches and a manager who is really on top of exceptional guest experiences. The summer set is full of vivid colours and vibrant flavours. Sweet and savoury bites are beautifully placed on a high tea set and we dig in. There's a lot to say about everything from the Raspberry Macaron to the iced tea served alongside it, but we have to focus on the highlight – Orange Scones with clotted cream, strawberry jam and, our absolute favourite accompaniment, lemon curd. This is the true taste of summer and we can't think of a better way to conclude our memorable time at this iconic property.
The St Regis Doha isn't a regular resort. It's a landmark and a destination in itself. Once you check in, you'll never want to leave. From Parisian cafés and global franchises to homegrown dining brands and even its own tea blends, there is a world of sophistication and experiences to enjoy here. A stay at this immaculate property is a step into timeless luxury, contemporary opulence and promises an experience like no other. In our view, this really is Qatar's finest address. ✤
Having made its grand debut in February 2021, Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas quickly cemented its place as one of the largest and most soughtafter destinations in the Middle East. With a sprawling 3.5km private beach, a wide range of accommodations – including some of the most luxurious villas you’ll find anywhere – and the adrenaline-filled Desert Falls Water & Adventure Park, the resort has continued to enchant both children and adults alike.
On previous visits, I’ve sampled the much-loved Dante Cucina Italiana restaurant, indulged in the expansive buffet and even stayed overnight to experience the thrills of the water park first-hand. But today’s visit promised something altogether different and perhaps, more indulgent. This time, I was there for a rejuvenating hammam experience at the resort’s eforea Spa. After an hour’s drive from The Pearl, I was more than ready to unwind as the Doha heat was climbing fast in the mid-afternoon sun and a Turkish Hammam was the perfect mind and body detox.
Tucked within a serene, multi-level sanctuary, the award-winning eforea Spa reimagines wellness with its guiding philosophy of ‘emerging brighter’. Blending time-honoured rituals with contemporary techniques, this haven of renewal offers 13 treatment rooms, two opulent VIP suites and authentic Turkish and Moroccan Hammams. Guests can immerse themselves in an array of traditional thermal therapies – from soothing saunas and aromatic steam rooms to invigorating monsoon showers, ice fountains and heated vitality pools – all complemented by lounge spaces designed for pure relaxation.
On entering, you’re immediately struck by the magnitude of the resort, and the spa (though tucked into one section) retains every bit of that grandeur: tall ceilings, ivory marble-clad panels, unique custombuilt water features and breathtaking panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf make the experience nothing short of extraordinary. Mirroring the Arabian heritage of the resort, the spa's entrance is adorned with a white and brilliantly bright blue exterior, the vibrant hues evoking both coastal serenity and cultural richness. Throughout every crevice, the spa exudes a serene elegance, illuminated by the soft glow of dimly lit candles and lanterns. A striking chandelier hangs overhead, casting a warm, golden light that dances across the intricately engraved pillars and ceilings.
Greeted by Winifred at reception, I was handed a form to ensure my experience was entirely tailored to my personal needs. Before the treatment began,
I had the opportunity to sample a range of products from Argansus – a locally crafted, all-natural brand used in the spa’s body and facial treatments for both men and women, and also available for purchase. First up was the coconut milk and honey body bath, which was a delectable and creamy, syrupy cleanser that nourishes the skin, with a beautiful scent lingering long after it has been rinsed off. Just as I was soaking in the luxurious feel of it, Winifred whipped out the rose petal body scrub that was infused with the finest microbeads to offer a thorough yet gentle exfoliation, leaving my skin silky smooth. The Argansus collection includes a variety of 100% natural products, from body oils and facial elixirs to moisturisers suited for both day and night, making it a perfect extension of the spa experience at home.
Now onto the spa experience itself. Attentive and considerate, from start to finish, I was in the thoughtful care of Dilhani, who ensured every detail was taken care of. She gave me a full tour of the changing rooms and the extensive spa and sauna facilities, all while keeping me comfortably hydrated with refreshing water and soothing chamomile tea. Draped in the softest, most luxurious cotton robe, I made my way into the hammam treatment space and, after eight years of living in Doha, I can confidently say I have never encountered anything quite like it. At the heart of the room lies an octagonal heated marble slab, surrounded by elegant pillars, graceful arches, a domed ceiling and individual basins. Every detail is accented with rich shades of deep blue that add to the regal feel. I
was ready to begin my hammam ceremony, a beautifully choreographed ritual of cleansing and renewal, expertly performed by the skilled Subina.
As I lay on the warm marble slab, a wave of calm washed over me, grounding me in the moment. The ritual began with a gentle yet invigorating cleanse using nourishing oils and fragrant black soap, the scent alone beginning to melt away tension. After this initial phase, I was led to a pre-heated steam room designed to open the pores and deepen the effects of the treatment. The warmth was soothing and immersive, while a bucket of ice and cool water was thoughtfully provided to help regulate my temperature and heighten the sensory experience. In minutes, I was drenched in sweat, and it felt as though the weight of the entire week had evaporated with the steam. My body felt lighter, almost like layers of fatigue had been shed. Returning to the slab, a traditional exfoliation with a Kessa glove left every inch of me smooth.
For those seeking an even more indulgent ritual, the 90-minute Royal Hammam elevates the experience further with the application of a nourishing honey and royal jelly mask – an opulent touch inspired by Cleopatra’s own beauty secrets.
The treatment concluded with a deeply relaxing massage and hydrating finish, which left my skin glowing and my mind at complete peace. This went far beyond any spa treatment, it was a blissful journey!
Like a queen retiring to her chambers, I left rejuvenated and wrapped in quiet grandeur. In every detail, the experience at eforea Spa at Hilton Salwa Beach Resort was nothing short of majestic. For those seeking serenity fit for royalty, this spa is a sanctuary worthy of a crown. ✤

Athens is one of those cities that blends past and present with zero effort – one minute you’re standing under the Parthenon, the next you’re eating grilled octopus on a rooftop bar overlooking it. The summer buzz here is real, cafés spill onto the streets, locals stay out late and everything feels gloriously unhurried. Lose yourself in the cobbled alleys of Plaka, climb the ancient Acropolis or catch panoramic views from Mount Lycabettus. Culture lovers will find plenty to dig into (the Acropolis Museum is a must) but it’s also easy to just sit back with a cold frappé and watch the world go by. Once you’ve had your city fix, the Greek islands come calling – many just a quick ferry ride away. Santorini and Mykonos get the spotlight but Hydra, Paros and Naxos offer a more relaxed charm with whitewashed villages and low-key beaches. Aegina, meanwhile, is a lovely day trip from Piraeus port, with pistachio groves and seaside cafés. Of course, the food is a highlight – mezze plates, souvlaki (skewered meat), spanakopita (spinach feta pie) and loukoumades (Greek doughnuts). Don’t miss the Varvakios central market for real-deal Greek flavours! Athens is the kind of getaway that resets your mood without exhausting your energy – ideal for squeezing in one last proper break.

There’s something about Bangkok that just hits different. The city moves fast – tuk-tuks weaving through traffic, markets spilling into alleys and neon signs flashing late into the night. If you’re up for a jolt of energy, this is the place. Start slow with a temple tour – Wat Pho’s giant reclining Buddha is a must-see and the riverside Wat Arun looks magical at dusk. Hop on a traditional longtail boat through the canals and make a stop at Wat Paknam, Bangkok’s largest Buddha, and continue on to one of the city’s iconic floating markets. Then dive headfirst into the street-food capital of the world. Whether it’s spicy papaya salad in Silom, pad thai and mango sticky rice in Yaowarat or a fullon night market crawl in Chatuchak, you’ll eat well at every turn. Khao San Road still pulses with backpacker energy but other neighbourhoods like Ari or Ekkamai offer a more laid-back feel with creative cafés and boutiques. Cool off at a sky-high rooftop bar or sneak in some shopping at one of the many malls (Siam Paragon, Central World, MBK Center). And if time allows, a quick flight to Chiang Mai or Phuket is always an option. Bangkok is chaotic yet comforting – leaving you grinning, full and wanting more. MILAN, ITALY
Milan in late summer is underrated – most tourists head for Rome or Florence, which leaves this northern gem pleasantly easy to navigate. Being Italy’s fashion capital, it might be stylish but there’s more to it than catwalks and couture. Start with the iconic Duomo (Milan Cathedral) –its gothic marble spires and rooftop views are worth the climb – then wander through the grand Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (Italy’s oldest active shopping arcade) for some luxurious window shopping. The Navigli canals are full of charm, dotted with vintage markets, cafés and bars, where you can sample the local aperitivo culture (enjoy a classic bitter-sweet Italian mix with olives). Food is a big deal and there’s something for every craving – from risotto alla Milanese and cotoletta (breaded veal cutlet) to paperthin pizzas and all the gelato you can handle! For art lovers, Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper is one of the most interesting attractions at Santa Maria delle Grazie, while design enthusiasts will love the sleek spaces of Triennale Milano. For a break from the city, the beautiful Lake Como is an easy hour away by train – all sunlit villas and slow ferry rides. Whether you’re travelling solo or with kids, Milan makes a relaxed, culture-filled stop.

NAIROBI, KENYA
Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, is wild in all the right ways. You can go from sipping strong Kenyan coffee in a stylish café to spotting rhinos on safari – all within the same morning.
Just a short drive from the city centre, Nairobi National Park is one of the only places in the world where you can see lions, giraffes and zebras with a city skyline in the background. Don’t miss the Giraffe Centre for a truly up-close encounter or the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to visit rescued baby elephants (pro tip: adopt one online before you go). But Nairobi is more than just a gateway to safari –it’s a dynamic, energetic city with loads to do. Food-wise, try nyama choma (chargrilled meat) with kachumbari salad at a local joint or dig into a full Swahili coconut curry. In between, shop colourful beadwork and woven bags at the Maasai Market or, for a slice of calm, explore Karura Forest – ideal for walking or biking. If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to dip your toes into Africa, Nairobi offers just the right amount of wild-meets-urban for a short, unforgettable break.

While most of the Gulf is still sizzling, Salalah is in the middle of its Khareef (monsoon) season, making it hugely popular during this time. From July to September,
the Dhofar region is swept by monsoon weather and transforms into a misty green oasis. Think rain-soaked hills, trickling waterfalls and grass-carpeted valleys –a rare sight in the region and a great escape from the blazing Doha heat. Nature takes centre stage here and the cool air means you can actually hike without melting – or take long drives through fog-draped mountains with your windows down. Spot camels wandering past banana plantations and frankincense trees growing wild, all while sipping fresh coconut water from a roadside stall. For stunning views, wander through Wadi Darbat’s surreal landscapes, head up into the cloud-covered cliffs of Jabal Ittin or picnic near Ain Athum’s springs. On the coast, Mughsail Beach makes for a wild, scenic outing with dramatic waves and blowholes guaranteed to leave you soaked yet entertained. The latest collection from Qasimi, the fashion brand with the regional flavour, is an artistic collaboration that explores heritage and identity.
Qasimi’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection has been created in partnership with Kambui Olujimi. Debuting at London Fashion Week, the reveal marked the first live show under Hoor Al Qasimi’s creative direction, since she took the helm in 2020. Teaming up with the acclaimed artist Kambui Olujimi, Hoor has crafted a collection that merges art, sculpture and fashion, delving into profound themes of identity, history and sociopolitics. Reflecting on the collaboration, she said: “Our work with Kambui Olujimi allowed us to delve deep into these themes, aligning perfectly with Qasimi’s ethos of cultural dialogue and storytelling.” The partnership has been instrumental in shaping the collection, drawing significant inspiration from the artist’s impactful ‘When Monuments Fall’ series a body of work that explores the recontextualisation of monuments, their societal roles and the dynamics of power they represent. The design team, led by Hoor, proposed new narratives through the reinterpretation of shapes and forms.
A central concept in the collection is spolia, which involves integrating elements from older structures into new designs. This approach effectively recontextualises Qasimi’s identity, merging past influences with contemporary aesthetics. The garments reflect this concept through a blend of fluid and structured silhouettes, symbolising the ever-changing nature of monuments. Key fabrics used in the collection include mediumweight silk twill, sheer cotton voile and a luxurious silk-wool blend. Techniques such as digital printing, image granulation, and fading are employed to evoke the passage of time and the shifting significance of the original artworks. ✤

By Wet Leg
The second studio album from British rockers Wet Leg and the first to feature guitarist Josh Mobaraki, bass guitarist Ellis Durand and drummer Henry Holmes as full contributing members.
After the runaway success of the band’s self-titled first album in 2022, there were fears that this follow-up would suffer the infamous second release slump, but it’s quickly become a hit with critics and fans alike, having hit #1 on the UK Albums Chart. Described as catchy with a great indie-rock vibe, this could turn out to be the sound of the summer.
By Madonna
A remix album featuring the veteran songstress at, arguably, her creative and musical best. These tracks were recorded between 1997 and ’98 and the album was originally conceived as a remix from her phenomenally successful Ray of Light, but shelved. Fans are in for a treat with rare and previously unreleased or remastered remixes from the era, with several collaborators, including Peter Rauhofer, William Orbit, Sasha, BT and Victor Calderone. It also includes Gone Gone Gone, a previously unreleased demo with producer Rick Nowels.

Alongside Chino Moreno, Stephen Carpenter, Abe Cunningham and Frank Delgado is touring bassist Fred Sablan for an 11-song set that’s lean and masterfully produced by Nick Raskulinecz, who previously worked on Diamond Eyes

The Bank of England has asked the public to help design the next batch of banknotes. Yes, the same people who once voted to name a £200 million research ship Boaty McBoatface are now being handed the creative reins over actual money. This isn’t a drill. You could, theoretically, suggest putting David Attenborough in a bucket hat on the tenner, or nominate your nan for her cottage pie. It’s all part of a public
engagement campaign to get fresh ideas, though it’s highly possible that the suggestions box might soon be full of animated characters and Harry Styles in bizarre outfits. It’s a bold move from the bank but if chaos is what they wanted, the internet will definitely deliver. After all, in a country where putting the kettle on counts as doing something about the situation, letting the people design the currency feels not surprisingly, British.
It started innocently enough: a Coldplay concert, a packed stadium and a classic kiss cam moment. Only this time, the camera panned to Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and Head of HR Kristin Cabot. What followed was the most awkward moment of the decade where one tried to hide while the other one reached out for their drink. Chris Martin, never one to miss a moment, joked: “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
The video went viral instantly and soon, both executives (married but not to each other) stepped down. Naturally, the memes were glorious. F1 fans gave us sad George Russell edits, with Toto romancing Max in the background, while others imagined HR policies rewritten by Coldplay lyrics. But the weirdest twist was when Gwyneth Paltrow was announced as the company's new spokesperson. Moral of the story? If you're on the Kiss Cam, make sure to play it cool.
Superman might be catching falling planes, but it’s his furry sidekick whose truly saving the day. Following the release of the Superman movie, Krypto the Superdog, whose CGI is modelled after director James Gunn’s own rescue pup, Ozu, has sparked a 500% surge in dog adoption interest online. Suddenly, everyone wants a loyal companion. Shelters are delighted, of course, but experts have issued a gentle word
of caution to not get swept away by the hype. A dog might look great in a cape, but they also come with chewed slippers, vet bills and a desperate need for a morning walk when you’re still half-asleep. But, if Krypto’s screen time means more rescue dogs find forever homes, we’re all for it. Just remember that real-life superdogs need more than just admiration. They need your time, patience and the occasional belly rubs full of love.
