Rick Rodrigues Tem o desenho como ponto de partida. Suas séries de desenhos monocrômicos em vermelho e em azul sobre papéis de texturas finas desvelam pequenos mundos dentro de outros mundos. Rick também passeia pela apropriação, criação e ressignificação de objetos, bordados, gravuras e decalques. Alterando as dimensões de objetos, casas e figuras humanas, o artista faz associações singulares que se destacam no fundo límpido do papel, ora branco, ora creme. Tudo parece estar no campo da sutileza. O tratamento dado ao acabamento dos desenhos – em todas as suas séries, vale ressaltar – aproxima-se do zelo que o artista possui com os símbolos de sua memória afetiva.
Has the drawing as his starting point. His series of monochromatic drawings in red and blue over fine texture papers unveils small worlds within other worlds. Rick also wanders on the appropriation, creation and resignification of objects, embroideries, engravings and decals. Altering the object's dimension, houses and human figures, the artist makes singular associations which stands out on the clear paper background, sometimes white, sometimes cream. It all seems to be on the field of subtlety. The treatment given on the finishing of the drawings – in all of his series, it's worth pointing out – comes close to the zeal that the artist has with the symbols in his affective memory.
Às memórias adiciona uma espécie de enciclopédia de fábulas e uma coleção de símbolos capazes de evidenciar as questões da infância e a arquitetura cotidiana, mesclando as a elementos que contribuem para reavivar os sonhos de menino, desejos, perturbações, fragilidades e laços familiares; construções poéticas de referências surrealistas. O cuidado converte se em leveza, no trabalho minucioso dos degradês e na alternância da intensidade da cor influenciada pela luz nos cenários. Na produção de Rick Rodrigues, o sujeito encontra-se diante da possibilidade de ocasionar fissuras em suas camadas de certezas firmadas e de razões consolidadas. To these memories, he adds some sort of encyclopedia of fables and a collection of symbols capable to put in evidence the childhood issues and the everyday architecture, mixing them to the elements that contributes to revive his boyhood's dreams, desires, disturbances, fragilities and the family bonds; poetic constructions of surrealist references. Care turns into lightness, on the meticulous work with the gradients and on the alternation of the intensity on the color influenced by the light on the sceneries. In the work of Rick Rodrigues, the one faces him/herself with the possibility of causing cracks on their layers of absolute truths and consolidated reasons. The exhibition space starts to hold an invitation for us to enter into our memories, remind of our origins, into our “space-home-shelter”. These little worlds within other worlds. Sceneries that speaks not only of him, but also about us.
