THE AIBONITO IDEAS FACTORY
FabIDEAS Coop is a recently created workers coop dedicated to the creation and distribution of Montessori educational wood products and children furniture as well as other related specialized materials for kids. The factory is in the mountain town of Aibonito, in Puerto Rico.
The Coop was founded as a response from parents who wanted to fetch the needed materials for their school kids and provide for their community's future economic development. We are committed to providing quality products that help children become more capable, self-confident, and peaceful human beings.
We primarily provide products for public Montessori schools and non-profit day care centers all over the Island, where 80% of the children are under poverty level. We also serve Head Starts, private schools, distributors, retail stores, clinics, hospitals, libraries, and other places, like restaurants and hotels, that want to create more child-friendly areas for their visitors. Parents looking to create comfortable living or home-schooling spaces for their kids are also welcome to check our catalog.
Besides becoming an economic engine for this rural area, the project aims to create awareness about the importance of economic sustainability and the way humans can make sensible use of natural and renewable resources to build the new green economy. An artisans' guild helps us develop our humancentered products and solutions. The idea is to generate know-how around a collective of skilled people, whose synergy will allow them to create their own initiatives and micro businesses in the near future. Hardwood trees and functional plants like cotton and turmeric, will be grown to teach people about the importance of responsible harvesting of natural resources in the economic cycle to produce raw materials like pigments, textiles, and lumber. As MIT and Yale labs establish the first commercial solar microgrid in the factory using blockchain technologies, we will accompany people on their way to democratizing energy by creating their own grids without the need for financial or governmental intermediaries.
Children of our founding school next door will be able to learn as they grow and take part on the different components of the project as learners, helpers, and shareholders.

Discounts
Our educational materials are a mix of home-made and imported brands. We select the materials according to certain quality standards. We use only hardwood on solid materials, boxes are made of birch panel or beech wood. Materials for infants are painted with water-based lackers. We only carry copper, bronze or stainless-steel wires on bead materials. We offer discounts to public schools and non-profits based on volume.
From $10,000 to $49,999 – 5%
From $50,000 to $100,000 – 6%
From $100,000 to $300,000 – 7%
Most furniture is made locally. Discounts for furniture are applied separately in a case-by-case basis. Please contact us for a quote at info@fabideascoop.com. If you want to furnish your classroom you may get more savings by buying packages of materials and furniture together.
Shipping
Local residents in Puerto Rico save about 14% in shipping charges compared to imported brands. We deliver by road. Our delivery charges are calculated depending on distance and order volume. For shipping outside of Puerto Rico, United States Postal charges may apply.
Shipping by sea outside of Puerto Rico depends on location and weight of the package. Please contact us for a quote at info@fabideascoop.com

Montessori materials are a precious part of Montessori education, but many schools cannot afford to set up a complete classroom. We encourage donations from supporters through our funding program to help schools and non-profit orgs cover some of the costs of their orders.
