Selection Report 13th National Selection Conference of EYP the Netherlands Dear EYP alumni, The selection of officials for the 13th National Selection Conference has been completed. We want to thank all applicants once again for their interest in attending the session. We were honoured to receive over 100 applications. Therefore, the panel had to make difficult choices between strong applications. The panel consisted of two representatives of the Board of EYP the Netherlands, Laurens and Zahra, together with the President and the Editors (for the Journalist selection), as well as the Head-Organisers (for the Organisers selection). This year, the Board of EYP NL made some slight adjustments to the selection process. First of all, we decided to have two representatives of the Board on the selection panel, instead of the whole Board as to ensure balanced decision-making between the interest of different parties, as well as to make the process go quicker and more efficiently. Next to that, this year we selected all officials at once; instead of splitting the international applications from the Dutch applicants, as the Board felt there was no need to do so. Lastly, this year, the Board decided that we should aim at a better balance in experience within the chairs’ team. In previous years, it was a tradition that we had experienced international chairs paired up with less experienced Dutch chairs. As EYP the Netherlands is continuously growing, and we are actively trying to give all alumni – old and new – a place within our organisation, this seemed like a good first step to take so that also those that are more experienced and still actively taking part in the National Committee can take part in the Nationals. This also enables those lesser-experienced Dutch alumni to continue growing within EYP the Netherlands. We hope that those applicants that we were unable to find a place on the team for are not too disappointed and will try again in the future. We hope that you do not see this as in any way reflecting on your qualities as an EYPer. Of course we, as a Selection Panel, had to make decisions between levels of experience, different nationalities and gender. The fact that some applicants did not fit that picture this time does not mean that this will not be the case another time.
