Academic Vision

Pro-activity

Working together successfully and efficiently as a team requires transparent and pro-active communication. Such communication is a two-way street. Both in the weeks leading up to Basel 2022 and at the session itself, we as the Board will ensure that the entire team is informed early on about the work timeline and will make it a rule to give Chairpersons as much time as possible to plan and fulfil their tasks. On the other hand, we expect Chairpersons to self-dependently update the Board about their progress, particularly when things are not going to plan, so that the Board can provide assistance. We believe that through intelligent communication we can together create a healthy and collaborative working atmosphere.

Health

For the Basel 2022 session we want to make both physical and mental health a priority. We firmly believe that meeting your physical needs like enough sleep and a balanced diet is crucial for overall well being. The session should be as stress-free as possible for everyone involved. Therefore, we will maintain a healthy work-life balance before the session but also take scheduled breaks during the session to rest. Deadlines should be achievable and in accordance with your other commitments. The best atmosphere is achieved if everyone feels comfortable to share their opinions and thoughts. We will ensure a safe space where everyone is welcomed and can express themselves.

Creativity

At many sessions we hear the discussion about the purpose of EYP, „what is this good for?„; “No one listens to us anyway.“ and other such comments flying around. But we see sessions first and foremost as a creative educational process that makes amazing resolutions as a by-product. In the past, there has been a lot of focus on public speaking and confidence building in EYP, but we believe that the skill of creativity has often been overlooked. We see creativity as a cornerstone of active citizenship and a skill that can be learned. We further believe that creativity is a process, a process that runs through every part of the session journey, and a process we want to encourage throughout. Therefore, we will value quality & creativity over quantity & repetition and seek to instil a passion for creative discussions and policymaking in all the participants.

Feedback

We have many different ideas for what kind of place we want Basel 2022 to be. We have structured those thoughts into four pillars: pro-activity, health, creativity and feedback.

Our ideas in this vision are all part of a process in which we learn as individuals and as a team. Being able to give and receive valuable feedback plays a vital role. We believe that feedback has its place in many different situations, as it can be used to resolve tensions but it can also be a good instrument to provide a positive insight to someone. At the end of Basel 2022, we hope that all participants are comfortable with giving and receiving feedback, and that they have the tools they need to make that work. For instance, we want to put an emphasis in our training on evaluation and feedback and we want to explore the idea of doing post-session feedback calls with delegates.

Balance

Respect

Safe Space

Head Organisers' Vision Hello there, aspiring Organisers! Thank you so much for considering applying for the NSC Basel 2022. We are not going to lie, the past couple of months have been quite rough, stressful and tiring nonetheless. However, with so many things not going the way they were intended to, we always strove - and also managed - to remain positive. That was because of the amazing Team that has accompanied us throughout this journey. And, now, we are looking for even more awesome people who may join our ranks and contribute to make this an event to remember. Our objective for the Organising Team is that of providing you with a safe space that promotes the interpersonal exchange between team members and - thus - may allow us all to learn from one another. We wish to provide all participants with a platform that allows them to express themselves in creative ways - be it in their work as Organisers, as well as outside of that. A place where there is no room for bullying and we are rather encouraged to learn from mistakes and take constructive criticism as a further tool for improvement. In this respect, it is also essential to denote the importance of collaboration, which spans well over the Organising Team and extends to all other participants of the Session. Over the course of this event, you will be confronted with numerous Groups - the Academic and Media Team, as well as the Jury - which will be involved in the management of different aspects of the event, such as - for example - media coverage or the writing of Topic Overviews. Thus, they will often interact with us Organisers. We, therefore, want to try and create a working environment that ensures the smooth proceeding of such actions; an environment, where participants do not feel separated or distant, but rather one in which they are eager and willing to collaborate with the others to achieve a set goal. This can be achieved by having regular hangout calls, where you will be able to meet the other participants, or also by allowing you to form a new group with the others that is tasked with pursuing a certain objective Finally, we would like to address another point which is very important to us: Balance! As it was mentioned at the beginning, organising an EYP event can get quite challenging, if expectations and time are not managed correctly. And, especially with the increasing strive towards professionalisation that organisations like ours have been experiencing over the past few years, it is also very easy to get lost in all the stress of the Session. For the NSC Basel 2022, we want to “go back to the basics” and remind everybody what EYP is all about. It is right to wish to organise an event, which will be remembered by many. And it is also legitimate to try and achieve a set goal no matter what when it comes to organising. However, what participants will remember is not the fancy food; or the luxurious venues and accommodation; nor will they keep flaunting about how expensive the items in their goodie bags were - although the food does leave quite a mark at times. What they will remember are the people they have met, the things they have been able to learn and the memories they made… Those are the treasures that they will carry for the rest of their lives. So, what we want to say is, if something does not turn out the way it was planned to, then so be it! Or, if a task gets too stressful and you are being overwhelmed, ask somebody for help - we are always here for one another - and we will figure out a solution. There is no use unnecessarily beating ourselves up and crying over spilled milk. Ultimately, we are all doing this because we want to have fun, and we should never forget this.

Editor's Vision At Basel 2022, the Editorial Team would envision creating a proactive, creative and collaborative environment for Journalists interested in advancing their prospect. With quality being prioritised over quantity, each Journalist is encouraged to utilise the skill capacity of the entire team by collaborative efforts, under the supportive system of the Editorial Team. Journalists in EYP Media should possess project-management skills, which can be exercised for improvements at Basel 2022. With open communication and transparent cooperation, we encourage Journalists to openly receive feedback and give one in return to all working processes around them. While keeping in mind the welcome of failure and no necessity for perfection - Basel 2022 is set to advance and build capacity for its participants. We hope to achieve an empowered team of Journalists, who are able to freely ask questions and execute ideas, alongside provide opinions for improvements. With an expectation to achieve quality output, mental and physical wellbeing is prioritised. Editorial Team is to take responsibilities of marketing strategies, evolving social media management and content creation. Each Editorial Team Member shall cooperate with each Journalist to advance their understanding of the editorial process in both content and project management, alongside execution. Collaborative and cooperative environment for mutual achievements and improvements, especially personal. Each Media Team Member, both Assistant and Journalist is encouraged for expressing their creativity, seeing how their idea can influence an audience. Each project should aim to inspire, motivate, inform or empower participants of Basel 2022. Media Team of Basel 2022 aims to support in creating a welcoming environment for the Delegates, by active communication and inspiration. This hopes to allow Delegates see their potential or either Media, Academic, Jury, or Organising Teams in the future, inspire them to see the benefits of EYP. We are looking for Media Team Members (Assistants and Journalists) who can turn Basel 2022 into a turning point for both Officials and Delegates with their communication and collaboration abilities, alongside projects.

Session Theme

Active participation of citizens in local public life is a fundamental requirement of a democratic society. However, the major challenges of today increasingly have a supra-regional or even global dimension.

LOCAL INITIA GLOBAL CH 8

Whether it is climate change, digitalisation, health care, social welfare or public safety, hardly any issue seems to be addressed at the local level. This can make young people in particular doubt whether they can make a positive contribution to social development by getting involved in local organisations, parties or communities.

Participating young people will be able to explore this question at this year's 26th National Selection Conference of the European Youth Parliament Switzerland (EYP Switzerland). During five days, they will have the opportunity to deal with regional approaches through which they can make a significant contribution to solving global problems in their local communities. The aim is to

make a positive contribution to the political education of the participating young people and to encourage them to take an active part in social life. As the heart of the border triangle, in which cross-border regional cooperation has been taking place for centuries, the city of Basel offers the ideal environment for dealing with this topic.

ATIVES HANGE 9

Session Location: Basel

The 26th National Selection Conference of EYP Switzerland will take place in Basel. Located in the so-called “Dreiländereck” where Switzerland, Germany and France meet, Basel has been an important place for international trade and exchange ever since the Middle Ages. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that a key part of the city's identity to this day is its diversity and multiculturalism. Today, Basel is renowned for its internationally recognised art museums, such as the Foundation Beyeler and the Kunstmuseum Basel. During the industrial revolution, Basel also became a hub of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry which profoundly influences the city’s architecture to this day. Since 2020 the Roche Bau 2 - the highest building in Switzerland - towers over the city. Despite these strong international ties, Basel has maintained to preserve its cultural heritage and traditions. Hence, Basel is the ideal place to explore the interaction between local initiatives and global developments, also reflected in the session motto. We hope that this year’s National Selection Conference of EYP Switzerland in Basel allows you to discover how local initiatives can have a global impact!
