During new subway tunnel construction for the South Ferry Subway Station in downtown Manhattan, remnants of old Dutch fortifications were discovered. Working with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Historians and Archeologists at AKRF Environmental Planners prepared a full analysis of historic structures and changes that had occurred in this oldest settled part of New York City. This involved a full survey of all historical maps available for the area, and georeferencing, or “rubber stretching” maps to a common modern base. Created by Eymund Diegel, using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and ArcGIS.
