« L’art de vivre, c’est la relation ; sans relation il n’est pas de vie », disait Jiddu Krashnamurdi. Désignant l’ensemble des interactions entre individus au sein d’un groupe ou d’une société, les relations humaines sont considérées comme essentielles au développement individuel et intellectuel de chaque être humain. Mais au delà de cette définition élémentaire, il est prouvé qu’interagir avec autrui est source de bien-être et de bonheur. En effet, des études démontrent qu’avoir des relations saines permet de réduire le stress, améliorer la santé et augmenter la longévité.

Even if you don’t know his name, you will have probably admired his work without realising it. His masterpieces include the immense white horses on the stage of the Miss France 2017 ceremony, and an imposing gorilla on the French TV programme, Anything Goes. In Geneva, his work is exhibited at the Urban Beach Club at the Grand Hotel Kempinski, and it was during the inauguration of this summery concept space that we had the privilege of meeting the one and only Richard Orlinski.

It only took a few years for him to become the world’s best-selling French artist. His sculptures quickly multiplied to join countless international collections, and celebrities such as Sharon Stone and Pharrell Williams were two of his first clients. In 2014, the artist sold a work crafted in solid gold portraying a pin-up emerging from a crocodile’s mouth for 15 million euros.

Orlinski is a real French success story, and yet he only entered the art world at the age of 37 after leading a far more normal life. “I just went for it. I dived in headfirst to break from the routine that was starting to get to me,” says the artist. He also describes this turning point in his book, Pourquoi j’ai cassé les codes (“Why did I break the codes?”). “My book is something of an educational project.

While it of course describes my journey, it also offers advice on how to be fulfilled and content.”

The French artist sculpts to make reality more elegantly simple, and creates works that stir up emotion in others.

“Animals have always fascinated humans; they’re vectors of direct emotion. You don’t need to be an art connoisseur to feel something when you look at my sculptures.” Orlinski particularly drew his inspiration from crocodiles (“a

symbol of a form of eternity”) while creating his first piece in 20014 – the Born Wild crocodile in red resin. The finished depiction of the ancestral beast was defined by its gaping mouth – a characteristic observed in most of the artist’s animal works. “It took me while to realise my art was crying out for me, in my place, constantly. And it’s not a cry of distress, but a welcome, primal, liberating animal roar.”

As well as his work, Orlinski sets himself apart through his desire to make art accessible. His countless open-air exhibitions – such as his monumental bear sculptures in Courchevel, Val d’Isère and other sites – are a testament to his objective. “Art stuck in a museum is aimed at a small number of people. I want to bring my art to the public.”

Through joint-projects with Disney and Bandai Namco, the sculptor hopes to open as many people’s eyes to art as possible. “Today, you can own one of my Sorcerer Mickey or Pac-Man sculptures for less than 100 euros.”

Driven by a natural curiosity, Orlinski has explored different art forms such as theatre, cinema and music. He is also a talented DJ, and has performed at numerous venues and released a variety of tracks, including Heartbeat, in collaboration with Eva Simons. He is set to appear in Francis Renaud’s film, Les Effarés, and if that weren’t enough, he is also preparing a 2018 show with a range of actors, comedians and musicians. “It’s a new, interactive concept in which I surprise the audience by inspiring emotions such as humour, love and sensitivity,” says the artist. While we impatiently wait to discover his new production, his artwork can be admired this summer at the Urban Beach Club, a new, sunny concept space at the Grand Hotel Kempinski in Geneva.

Si vous ne connaissiez pas son nom, vous auriez certainement pu admirer l’une de ses œuvres telles que ses immenses chevaux blancs sur le plateau de l’élection de Miss France 2017 ou son imposant gorille dans l’émission d’Arthur Vendredi tout est permis. A Genève, ses œuvres sont exposées à l’Urban Beach Club, situé au Grand Hotel Kempisnki Geneva. C’est à l’inauguration de ce concept estival que nous avons le privilège de rencontrer Richard Orlinski.

Quelques années lui suffirent pour s’imposer comme l’artiste français le plus vendu au monde. Très vite, ses sculptures se répandent et rejoignent des collections à travers le globe. Des célébrités comme Sharon Stone et Pharell Williams figurent parmi ses premiers clients. En 2014, il vend une pin-up jaillissant de la bouche d’un crocodile en or massif pour 15 millions d’euros.

Une véritable success story à la française ! Et pourtant, ce n’est qu’à 37 ans, après une première vie plus classique que Richard Orlinski débarque dans l’art. « Je me suis lancé, bille en tête pour rompre avec un train-train qui m’angoissait. Une réalité qu’il raconte notamment à travers son livre : « Pourquoi j’ai cassé les codes ? ». « Mon livre c’est comme une mission pédagogique, qui relate certes mon parcours, mais donne également des conseils pour s’épanouir ».

Richard Orlinski sculpte pour épurer la réalité et créer des œuvres d’art qui éveillent l’émotion dans le regard de l’autre. « Les animaux ont toujours fascinés les humains, ils sont vecteurs d’émotions directes. Pas besoin d’être féru d’art pour ressentir quelque chose en voyant mes sculptures ». C’est en particulier dans le crocodile, « symbole d’une forme d’éternité » qu’il puise son inspiration pour réaliser sa première œuvre en 2004, le Crocodile Born

Wild en résine rouge. L’animal ancestral se distingue notamment par sa gueule ouverte, une particularité que l’on retrouve par la suite dans la plupart de ses œuvres animalières. « Je mettrai du temps à comprendre que mes œuvres crient pour moi, à ma place, en permanence. Et il ne s’agit pas d’un cri de détresse mais plutôt d’un cri primal, bienvenu, libérateur ».

Mais au delà de ses œuvres, Richard Orlinski se distingue par sa volonté de démocratiser l’art. Ses nombreuses expositions à ciel ouvert comme ses ours monumentaux à Courchevel ou Val d’Isère, entre autres lieux, en sont le témoignage. « Des œuvres restant dans un musée ne sont destinées qu’à un nombre réduit de spectateurs.

Je souhaite à contrario apporter mon art au public ». A travers ses collaborations avec Disney ou Bandai Namco, le sculpteur a pour vocation de rendre l’art accessible. « Aujourd’hui, vous pouvez vous procurer un Mickey Sorcier ou un Pac-Man revisité par Orlinski pour moins de 100 euros ».

Curieux de nature, Richard Orlinski s’ouvre aux différentes formes de pratiques artistiques telles que le théâtre, le cinéma et la musique. DJ de talent, il se produit sur de nombreuses scènes et réalise de nombreux titres dont Heartbeat en collaboration avec Eva Simons. Il jouera dans le film Les Effarés de Francis Renaud. Enfin, il prépare un spectacle pour 2018, dans lequel il s’entoure de nombreux auteurs, humoristes et musiciens. « Il s’agit d’un nouveau concept interactif où je surprends le spectateur en suscitant notamment des émotions telles que l’humour, l’amour et la sensibilité ».

Dans l’impatience de découvrir son spectacle, ses œuvres viennent à la rencontre des Genevois cet été à l’Urban Beach Club.

Sharing her passion for art and photography while having fun is the driving ambition of Emilie Boiron. Through her Emilie Fashion Academy concept store located in the centre of Geneva, the former Miss Suisse Romande is pursuing her dreams. She agreed to invite us into her creative world.

After being crowned in 2002, the Geneva-born model worked as an ambassador for a number of leading brands, as well as picking up acting roles on television. But while she boasts more than ten years of experience in the fashion world, she decided to turn her attention to art and photography. As well as offering a trendy, original selection of fashion items from various brands, her concept store’s main purpose is a photo studio.

Emilie Boiron is well aware of the pitfalls that await young hopefuls looking to get into modeling, and so provides guidance to future stars as they take their first steps. The service includes bespoke coaching and help with creating a professional look book.

But as “everyone dreams of having their five minutes of fame,” the photo studio is open to everyone. We particularly enjoyed

Suite à son couronnement en 2002, la genevoise enchaîne les postes d’ambassadrices pour de grandes marques, ainsi que des rôles à la télé. Après plus de dix années passées dans le domaine du fashion, elle décide de mettre à l’honneur l’art de la photographie. Ainsi, outre une sélection tendance et originale d’articles de mode de diverses marques, le thème principal de son concept store est le studio photo.

Consciente des difficultés que peuvent rencontrer les jeunes qui s’orientent vers le mannequinat, Emilie propose d’accompagner les futurs models dans leurs premiers pas, à travers un coaching personnalisé et en les aidant dans la création de leur book professionnel.

Mais parce que « tout le monde rêve au moins une fois d’avoir son moment de gloire », le studio photo est accessible à tous.

Decorations, fancy-dress and a photoshoot are all part of the unforgettable experience.

Emilie Boiron is both ambitious and determined, and would like to export her concept abroad. “Why not London, or Paris?” she says. “Both cities are precursors for new trends; inspiring places that match perfectly with the Fashion Academy concept.”

In the meantime, she is happy to continue inspiring delight, desire and excitement in her spacious concept store.

Décorations, déguisements et studio photo, tout est mis en œuvre pour rendre le moment inoubliable.

Ambitieuse et déterminée, Emilie Boiron souhaiterait voir son concept s’exporter. « Pourquoi pas Londres ou Paris ?

Véritable berceaux des tendances, ce sont des lieux inspirants et en totale adéquation avec le concept Fashion Academy ». En attendant, elle a pour objectif de toujours susciter envie, désir et convoitise dans sa spacieuse arcade.

What defines greatness? Where does it come from, and, if not recognized, does it even exist? I quietly run all kinds of existential questions through my mind while navigating our Maserati Levante over the Tuscan hills. Destination: Modena, the home of Maserati, Aceto Balsamico, and the most influential chef of the moment: Massimo Bottura. Under his creative direction he guided his ‘Osteria Francescana’ to three Michelin stars and the top position on the ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants’ list in 2016.

The Maserati doesn’t bother to dwell on our life questions.

Effortlessly heading through the Alps and cruising the Italian highway towards Parma and Modena, it is like the Levante knows the way, knowing it’s coming home. Arriving early morning in the picturesque Modena, passing the majestic Duomo on the Piazza Grande, we pull up in front of the restaurant with the most fought for tables in the world – there are currently over 1600 tables on the waiting list – Osteria Francescana.

Hidden in a typical calm Modenese alley, nothing reveals the drive and passionate creation taking place behind the rustic façade of the twelve tables counting restaurant. Here we meet Massimo for the first time, busy outside arranging with his team. He takes us with him to his office, and on a journey through his world, his Modena. Massimo appears passionate, busy, restless almost. We decide to start with a photo inside his restaurant. The setup is taking long and Massimo is gone.

A quick check in the kitchen and he is back and ready to go.

Through the first photo shoot we see him get more at ease, and the images look amazing. This will be an exciting day.

Content with the first results, we head into the streets of Modena. The sun hits the orange facades and the arches drive a perspective into the cobbled streets. Discussing his passion for food means discussing Modena and the Emilia-Romagna culinary heritage. Here lies the history of his kitchen, and the key to his success.

When opening Osteria Francescana in 1995 the now worldfamous chef didn’t know he was starting a revolution. Firmly sticking to his beliefs and philosophy, he developed the Osteria Francescana to the three-star Restaurant we now all adore. However, times have not always been as easy, and at a certain moment the end was more near than the success we now know. When asking Massimo how he knew it would work, and how he achieved it, he is very clear.

“Recognition of success - whether it’s Michelin or 50 Best - is important but not more than that. It’s really all about knowing yourself. When you know yourself, you don’t change. You are your standard of life, the art, the music, the

car, the clothing, it’s everything you love. It’s you. From the beginning I knew that the direction we chose with Osteria Francescana was the right one. I didn’t do it alone, it’s the team that made it possible. We showed that we never ever compromise, not even in times that the restaurant was completely empty. In the end it’s an act of faith. You don’t know the future, but you still trust and are confident with yourself. It’s very difficult to explain to others, but when you have this, you know where to go, who inspires you. At that moment you know, before everyone else, what your goal should be.”

Although impressive and almost intimidating, the immense success of Osteria Francescana is not what brought us to Modena. It is not why everyone adores Massimo Bottura. There is more about him. More than three-starred dishes and awards and the glamour that comes with it.

Earlier, when we started our morning by taking our morning espressos in a bar just around the corner we already bumped in to Massimo briefly. Busy on his phone he explained me that it hasn’t stopped ringing ever since the Rockefeller Foundation announced a partnership with his Food for Soul initiative. So I immediately wonder; is there a turn in direction? Does this lead to a more ‘social’ approach to his work?

“No, that’s not true,” he states. “I always keep four things in mind. Culture, knowledge, consciousness and sense of responsibility. If you ask me, Osteria Francescana is a laboratory of ideas, and we create culture. The Refettorio is a cultural project, not a charity. The concept that we develop here, is the concept that you find in the Refettorios we are developing everywhere, because it’s a sense of beauty, of art and architecture, plus the knowledge of the most influential chef in the world. We use that knowledge and skill to transfer to the volunteers, fighting the waste in the world. With this we make the invisible visible to the world. We show what you can do with breadcrumbs, brown bananas or ugly tomatoes.”

With the last whim of rush gone, and excited about the Food for Soul project, Massimo proposes to walk to the new Modena Refettorio. We can have a ‘sneak preview’ and will be the first to discover his latest project. In the former church a communal kitchen is being decorated with a magnificent black and white fresco, depicting the Modenese history and battle fought. Emerging from the dark and into the light the enormous fresco overwhelms us all. He proudly explains the story and the success of the ‘soup kitchen’ and Refettorio to come while we take another picture. More and more I grasp his sense of the change that can be achieved by a change in mind-set. Starting with the very basis of how this all started.

“For a chef today it’s not about the quality of the ingredients, but the quality of the ideas. Through culture you can show everyone that food and contemporary chefs are much more than the sum of their recipes.” Massimo explains. “We can be a social agent, create amazing recipes that help to sell 360’000 wheels of Parmigiano damaged by the earthquake.

We can create a recipe that is focusing on the Delta of the Po river, that is in a state of abandonment and pushes the region of Emilia-Romagna to rebuild the old park that is something out of this world, reconstructing the amazing Po Delta with the eels and fish and birds living in and around the water. We show the chefs that they can create something incredible together. With culture you can do this. If not, you just go in the kitchen, cut some stuff, clean some fish, cook and serve. It’s a different approach.”

Outside, near the Osteria’s entrance, Massimo poses for another picture. Neighbours and friends joke with him when passing. “Massimo you look like Spiderman!”, a man yells while he poses behind a wall. We are in no rush and Massimo makes time for everyone who passes by for a chat. This is not the unapproachable superstar chef I was expecting to meet, but a pater familias with Modena as his family.

“We can create incredible things, but without Osteria Francescana we could never do it, because this is the

place where we build it all. Every day. If you think about it: every day we create for our 28 guests lunch and dinner, but also for 52 people staff. That is almost double of what we do for our guests. So we have to create a model to discover a new tradition, to stimulate the mind and the palate of the young chefs, through what they bring to the kitchen. Their experiences, their influences, from all over the world. This way my kitchen is always evolving. So if you ask me what lies in the future of Massimo Bottura, I simply say: Future. I’m never happy with what I have or what I achieved. That’s the past. For me it’s not about being happy with the past but to being stimulated into the future. Who knows, maybe I will retire somewhere later, but I doubt it. It is simply not in my nature.”

Having taken up already half his day, it is time to say goodbye to Massimo Bottura. Thanking him for the time, and mostly the inspiring message of faith, redefining the description of success. Silent with awe, we steer the Levante towards the Autostrada heading to Geneva. The stop for fuel takes a bit longer than planned, as if the Maserati is showing us his unwillingness to leave home. We cannot but be in love with Massimo and his ‘crazy ideas’ as he says. But maybe even more with the realization that there is a great chef who lives in a small street in Modena, who is changing the world.

Qu’est-ce que le succès? D’où vient-il, et, s’il n’est pas reconnu, peut-il quand même exister ? Une farandole de questions existentielles défile dans mon esprit alors que je navigue au beau milieu des collines toscanes dans notre Maserati Levante. Notre destination : Modène. Il s’agit bien sûr de la maison de Maserati, du vinaigre Balsamique, mais aussi du chef le plus influent du moment : Massimo Bottura. Sous sa direction créative, son «Osteria Francescana» a obtenu trois étoiles Michelin et la première place dans la liste des “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” en 2016.

Massimo, affairé à la mise en place à l’extérieur, avec son équipe. Il nous emmène dans son bureau pour un voyage au centre de son univers, de sa Modène. Massimo paraît passionné, occupé, en ébullition presque. Nous décidons de commencer par une photo à l’intérieur du restaurant.

La mise en place du matériel dure, Massimo s’éclipse.

Une vérification rapide en cuisine et il est de retour, prêt à l’action. Au fil des premières prises de vue, nous le voyons se détendre, et les clichés deviennent excellents. Cette journée s’annonce passionnante.

Notre Levante, elle, ne se préoccupe pas de nos questionnements. La Maserati a franchi les Alpes et avalé l’autoroute italienne jusqu’à Parme et Modène comme un pur-sang filant sur le chemin du retour, sentant les écuries tout proche. Arrivés tôt le matin dans la pittoresque Modène, nous passons devant le majestueux Duomo, sur la Piazza Grande, et nous nous dirigeons vers la table la plus prisée au monde – l’Osteria Francescana – comptant actuellement plus de 1600 tables sur sa liste d’attente.

Satisfaits des premiers résultats, nous nous promenons dans les rues de Modène. Le soleil frappe les façades orange et les arches accentuent la perspective des rues pavées. Pour Massimo, discuter de sa passion pour la cuisine, c’est discuter de Modène et du patrimoine culinaire d’Émilie-Romagne. Il nous livre l’histoire de son art et la clé de son succès.

A l’extérieur, aucun indice. Masquées par la façade rustique du restaurant de douze tables, l’effervescence et la création passionnée règnent pourtant dans cette allée calme et ty pique de Modène. C’est ici que nous rencontrons

En 1995, année d’ouverture de l’Osteria Francescana, son chef, désormais mondialement reconnu, ne se doutait pas qu’il serait le fer de lance d’une véritable révolution. Restant fidèle à ses croyances et sa philosophie, il a hissé l’Osteria Francescana que nous adorons tous aujourd’hui au rang de restaurant trois étoiles.

Mais les temps ne furent pas toujours si heureux. Il fut une période où la fin guettait, obscurcissant ses espoirs de succès. Cependant, lorsque nous demandons à Massimo comment il a su que son entreprise réussirait, et comment il s’en est sorti, il est très clair.

«La reconnaissance du succès, qu’il s’agisse de Michelin ou des “50 Best”, est importante, mais sans plus. Ce qui compte, c’est de se connaître soi-même. Quand on sait qui on est, on ne change pas.

On incarne son niveau de vie, son art, sa musique, sa voiture, ses vêtements, tout ce qu’on aime. On est soi-même. J’ai été convaincu que la direction choisie pour l’Osteria Francescana était la bonne depuis le début. Je n’y suis bien sûr pas arrivé seul, c’est l’équipe qui a tout rendu possible. Nous avons montré que nous ne nous faisons jamais de compromis, même quand le restaurant était complètement vide. En fin de compte, c’est un acte de foi. On ne sait pas de quoi l’avenir sera fait, mais on y croit et on reste confiants en nousmêmes. C’est très difficile à expliquer, mais quand on a cela, on sait où l’on va et qui nous inspire. À ce moment-là, on sait avant tout le monde quels sont nos objectifs. « Bien qu’impressionnant, presque intimidant, ce n’est pas l’immense succès de l’Osteria Francescana qui nous a attirés à Modène. Ce n’est pas pour son succès que tout le monde adore Massimo Bottura. Cet homme a quelque chose d’encore plus précieux à offrir que des plats triplement étoilés et le glamour accompagnant ses autres récompenses.

Plus tôt, quand nous commencions notre journée avec des espressos dans un bar à l’autre coin de la rue, nous tombons nez à nez avec Massimo. Déjà plongé dans son téléphone, il m’explique qu’il n’a cessé de sonner depuis que la Fondation Rockefeller a annoncé un partenariat avec son initiative “Food for Soul”. Je me demande alors ; entamerait-il un virage ? Cela conduirait-il à une pratique plus «sociale» de son travail ?

«Non, ce n’est pas le cas», déclare-t-il. «Je garde toujours quatre choses à l’esprit : culture, connaissance, conscience et sens des responsabilités. Selon moi, l’Osteria Francescana est un laboratoire d’idées où nous créons une culture. Le Refettorio est un projet culturel, pas un organisme de bienfaisance. Le concept que nous développons ici est celui que vous trouverez dans tous les Refettorios que nous développons, car c’est un sentiment de beauté, d’art et d’architecture, ainsi que la connaissance du chef le plus influent au monde. Nous transmettons nos connaissances et nos compétences aux bénévoles, pour lutter contre le gaspillage dans le monde. De cette manière, nous rendons l’invisible visible au yeux du monde. Nous montrons ce qu’on peut faire avec de la chapelure, des bananes brunes ou des tomates moches. « Le dernier coup de feu passé, Massimo, enthousiasmé par le projet “Food for Soul”, nous propose de marcher jusqu’à son nouveau Refettorio de Modène. Nous avons droit à une «avant-première privée». Nous serons les premiers à découvrir son tout dernier projet. Aménagée dans une ancienne église, une cuisine commune est décorée d’une magnifique fresque en noir et blanc, illustrant l’histoire de Modène et de la bataille qui s’y est déroulée. Emergeant de l’obscurité, l’énorme fresque nous enveloppe entièrement. Il explique avec fierté l’histoire et le succès de la soupe populaire et du Refettorio à venir pendant que nous prenons une autre photo.

Je comprends de mieux en mieux son sens du changement, qui peut être atteint par un changement de mentalité. En commençant par la compréhension de comment tout cela a débuté.

«Pour un chef, aujourd’hui, il ne s’agit pas de la qualité des ingrédients, mais de la qualité des idées. Grâce à la culture, on peut montrer à tout le monde que la cuisine et les chefs contemporains sont bien plus que la somme de leurs recettes», explique Massimo.

«Nous pouvons jouer un rôle social, comme créer des recettes incroyables qui aident à vendre 360’000 meules de parmesan endommagées par un tremblement de terre. Nous pouvons créer une recette qui se concentre sur le delta du Pô, à l’abandon, et qui pousse la région de l’Émilie-Romagne à reconstruire cet ancien parc.

Inimaginable, mais cela a permis de reconstruire l’incroyable delta du Pô, avec ses anguilles, ses poissons et ses oiseaux vivant au milieu de toute cette eau. Nous montrons aux chefs qu’ensemble, ils peuvent créer quelque chose d’incroyable. Avec la culture, c’est possible. Sinon, notre métier se résumerait à aller en cuisine, couper des aliments, nettoyer un poisson, cuisiner et servir. C’est une approche très différente. « Arrivé dehors, Massimo pose pour une autre photo près de l’entrée de l’Osteria. Les voisins et les amis plaisantent avec lui en passant.

«Massimo, vous ressemblez à Spiderman!», crie un homme alors qu’il pose derrière un mur. Nous ne sommes pas pressés et Massimo prend du temps pour tous ceux qui viennent discuter. Ce n’est pas le chef superstar inaccessible auquel je m’attendais, mais un Pater Familias avec Modène pour famille.

«Nous pouvons créer des choses incroyables mais pas sans l’Osteria Francescana, car c’est l’endroit où nous construisons tout. Tous les jours. Rendez-vous compte : chaque jour, nous créons un déjeuner et un dîner pour nos 28 invités, mais aussi pour notre personnel de 52 personnes. Cela correspond presque au double de nos invités. C’est pour cette raison que nous devons créer un modèle, pour découvrir une nouvelle tradition au travers de ce que les jeunes chefs apportent à la cuisine, en stimulant leur esprit et leur palais. Leurs expériences, leurs influences, partout autour du monde. De cette façon, ma cuisine évolue toujours. Par conséquent, si vous me demandez en quoi consiste l’avenir de Massimo Bottura, je vous répondrai simplement : l’avenir. Je ne suis jamais content de ce que j’ai ou de ce que j’ai réalisé. Le passé est le passé. Pour moi, il ne s’agit pas d’être satisfait du passé mais d’être stimulé par le futur. Qui sait, peut-être que je prendrai ma retraite quelque part, mais j’en doute. Ce n’est tout simplement pas dans ma nature.»

Lui ayant déjà pris la moitié de sa journée, il est temps pour nous de dire au revoir à Massimo Bottura. Nous le remercions pour son temps, et surtout pour son inspirant message sur la détermination, redéfinissant la notion de succès. Silencieux, emplis d’admiration, nous dirigeons la Levante vers l’Autostrada, en direction de Genève. La halte carburant prend un peu plus de temps que prévu, comme si la Maserati voulait nous exprimer sa réticence à quitter la maison. Nous ne pouvons qu’être tombés amoureux de Massimo et de ses «idées folles», comme il le dit. Mais nous le sommes peutêtre encore plus avec la prise de conscience que, depuis une petite rue de Modène, un grand chef change le monde.

FOOD FOR SOUL Started in 2015 during the Expo Milano, within the ‘Feed the Planet’ exhibition theme, Massimo Bottura created Refettorio Ambrosiano. Together with several well-known artists, designers and 65 international chefs, he turned the surplus ingredients collected from the exhibition’s pavilions into nutritious meals served to the homeless and people in need from the Milan area, transforming an abandoned theatre in the suburbs of Milan into an inspiring community kitchen. Now, the Food for Soul project is developed in several cities like Bologna, Rio de Janeiro, Modena, London and in the future Berlin and Los Angeles.

Massimo Bottura a créé Refettorio Ambrosiano, démarré en 2015 lors de l’Expo Milano, suivant le thème de l’exposition, “Feed the Planet”. En collaboration avec plusieurs artistes et designers, ainsi que 65 chefs internationaux connus, il a transformé les surplus d’ingrédients récupérés des pavillons de l’exposition en d’appétissants repas servis aux sans-abris et aux démunis de la région de Milan, transformant un théâtre abandonné de la banlieue de Milan en une cuisine communautaire inspirante. The dial gives a watch its face. What appears at first glance to be so perfectly complete represents, in point of fact, one of watchmaking’s great challenges: along with creativity and experience, the manufacture of extremely thin dials demands extreme care and attention to detail. As a result, Glashütte Original assigns particular significance to the manufacture of dials: in Pforzheim, a city rich in the traditions of goldsmithing and jewellery-making, the brand has found the high degree of expertise and manual dexterity that it requires for its dials.

The Glashütte Original dial manufactory is one of the few dialmakers to make its own dial blanks as well. The production of a dial breaks down into a large number of separate tasks: from the production of the blank and its processing to the elaborate grinding and polishing of the surfaces and on to the diverse, labour-intensive finishing processes, numerous experienced hands do everything they can to transform the filigreed “screens” into authentic works of art.

Every year is defined by the same frantic energy. With shows, exclusive presentations and trendy parties, Fashion Week is nothing short of a whistle-stop world-tour of the latest trends and the newest fashion players.

This year Eyes Magazine headed to Milan. Our adventure began at the legendary Hotel Bvlgari for the presentation of the new collection of accessories for autumn-winter 2017. Offering an explosion of daring and modernity, Bella Hadid, Lottie Moss and Jasmine Sanders are the striking brand ambassadors for this subtly rock ‘n’ roll, seventies-inspired collection. After soaking up the electric atmosphere, we indulged in a Spritz before our stilettos led us to Jimmy Choo. In the heart of the La Posteria neighbourhood, the footwear brand had decked out the venue interior in technicolour.

Mint green, baby blue and pastel pink set the tone. We discovered the latest collection of accessories, including heels adorned with Swarovski crystals, hobnailed boots, satin hand bags and original clutch bags crafted in Plexiglas. One pair of shoes particularly caught our eye: candy-pink suede Low Boots topped off with fur pompoms. Daring, we hear you say? Well no one ever became a leading name without taking a few risks!

After Milan we headed to Paris, the world’s fashion capital. We were invited to the Manish Arora show at the Grand Palais, and had to fight our way through the journalists and photographers to reach our seat. When the lights dimmed and the show began, we remembered why we had come and what a singular art form fashion really is. Colours, Indian-inspired prints and faces covered in pearls were just few examples of the limitless creativity and bold identity of Manish Arora. The Anne Sofie Madsen show focused on a blend of sobriety, structure, interplaying materials and a nonchalantly Parisian je ne sais quoi. With ethereal silk, velvet and cotton, the Danish designer proved her talent and technique once again.

Afterwards, we made an unmissable stop at Moynat, the oldest French trunk-maker still in existence. We met with artisans working on pieces of leather at the boutique on the Rue Saint Honoré. While combining French vintage and tradition, Moynat also revisits the basics with the brand’s trademark modern twist. The partnership with singer Pharrell Williams serves as a perfect example. We finished our experience at Le Bon Marché to (re)discover the legendary snippets of conversation overheard by the renowned French journalist Loïc Prigent. Entitled Overheard at Le Bon Marché, his exhibition is a teasing compilation of the most improbable remarks heard at the department store before fashion shows and after-parties, such as “I’m looking for some mechanic’s overalls, but in a cocktail party style.” Taking everything with a pinch of salt (as is often the case in this scene) is recommended. But that’s also what fashion means; light-heartedness and humour. As Carine Roitfeld once said, “There is no point in loving fashion if you don’t know how to dream.” After all, dreams are the very essence of fashion.

Chaque année, c’est la même effervescence ; défilés, présentations exclusives, et soirées branchées, la Fashion Week est un véritable tour du monde express des tendances et des nouveaux acteurs de la mode.

Deuxième escale à Paris, capitale de la mode. Invités au défilé Manish Arora, au Grand Palais, il faut se frayer un chemin parmi les journalistes et les photographes pour atteindre notre Sacro Sainte place. Mais lorsque les lumières s’éteignent et que le show commence, on se rappelle pourquoi nous sommes là, et Ô combien la mode est un art à part entière. Des couleurs, des imprimés aux accents indiens et des visages couverts de perles, c’est la créativité sans limite et l’ADN de Manish Arora.

Chez Anne Sofie Madsen, sobriété rime avec structure, jeux de matières et un « je ne sais quoi » de nonchalance parisienne. Soie aérienne, velours, coton, la créatrice Danoise nous prouve encore une fois sa maîtrise et sa technique du vêtement.

Puis, passage obligé chez Moynat, le plus vieux Malletier français. Nous y croisons des artisans travaillant le cuir au sein même de la boutique de la rue Saint Honoré.

Mélange de vintage et de classicisme Français, Moynat revisite cependant les basiques, en leur insufflant une dose de modernisme qui leur est propre. Leur collaboration avec le chanteur Pharrel Williams en est l’illustration parfaite.

Nous terminons notre expérience au Bon Marché, afin de (re)découvrir les phrases mythique de Loic Prigent, célèbre journaliste de mode. Intitulé « Entendu au Bon Marché », cette exposition compile avec dérision les remarques les plus improbables capturées ici et là lors de défilés ou d’after party : « Je cherche une combinaison de garagiste, mais cocktail ». Le second degré, comme bien souvent dans ce milieu, est au rendez vous. Parce que oui, la mode c’est aussi ça. De la légèreté, de l’humour, et surtout comme disait, Carine Roitfeld : « rien ne sert d’aimer la mode si on ne sait pas rêver » car après tout, l’essence même de la mode, c’est le rêve.

Au cœur du quartier de la Posteria, la marque met en scène un intérieur, en technicolor.

Vert menthe, bleu layette et rose poudre donnent le ton. On y découvre la dernière collection d’accessoires : les escarpins ornés de cristaux Swarovsky côtoient les boots cloutés, les pochettes en satins et les clutchs décalés en plexiglass. Une paire retient particulièrement notre attention : des low boots en daim, rose dragée agrémentées de pompons en fourrure. Audacieux, nous direz vous, mais on ne devient pas une référence dans le domaine sans prendre quelques risques.

C’est à Milan que Eyes Magazine pose ses valises. Notre aventure commence au mythique Hotel Bulgari, pour la présentation de la nouvelle collection d’accessoires Automne/Hiver 2017. Needless to say, we don’t succeed to round the lap in record time, clearly pointing out our lack of race qualities. Not a bad thing however, since this only motivates us to try again and again. The Ferrari is not to blame. It lets us know, growling and hissing from the back that it can go faster, smoother and sharper around every corner, showing us the true potential of it’s Formula 1 DNA, putting a bigger grin on our face with every corner we take. As we said before: It’s a Ferrari. The 488 Spider is better, stronger, faster than what we have driven before. It is not just a show pony, but the pure thoroughbred we were hoping for. Get out your check books if you haven’t already done so, because at least until the arrival of the ‘Speciale’ – or will it be the GTO – this is as Ferrari as it gets.

To directly end this myth: the award winning 3,9 Litre V8 Twin-Turbo – voted International Engine of the Year 2017 – is every bit the engine you would expect from a Ferrari. The Scuderia already explained us the importance of sound, speed and handling for the brand, but they were not exaggerating. We can’t wait to get this show on the road. And a show it is. We put our foot on the brake, push the red start button, flip the manettino in Race mode and open the roof. With 100hp more than its predecessor 458 Italia, the 488 Spider let’s the world know its 670 horses are awake, scaring off whatever wildlife that still dared to circle our car. We are off and the 488 Spider immediately pushes us in our seats, giving us a flashback to the ride we took in the Ferrari Rollercoaster in Abu Dhabi. Almost forgetting that we need to steer ourselves, we try to hit the apex on the racetrack of the Buochs airfield – home of the legendary Pilatus aircrafts – that Ferrari prepared for us with Vettel-like precision.

Let’s immediately start with the obvious. It’s a Ferrari. So, the only car that can beat the sensation and thrill of a Ferrari, is a new Ferrari. And now, with the legendary Hotel Villa Honegg and Lake Lugano as a backdrop, we finally have the chance to take the new 488 Spider to the limit. A chance that worries us immediately a bit. Although Sebastian Vettel in Baku proved that the Ferrari is not to be held up in traffic – and has quite a sturdy build when it comes to high impact racing – the Formula 1 turbo-powered engines have also made their way to the 488GTB and 488 Spider. Since most critics are calling it a huge setback for the emotion in Formula 1 racing, it is with slight hesitation that we take place behind the wheel of our yellow Spider.

Commençons immédiatement par l’évidence. Il s’agit bien d’une Ferrari. La seule voiture qui peut battre les sensations et le frisson procurés par une Ferrari est une nouvelle Ferrari. Et maintenant, avec le légendaire hôtel Villa Honegg et le lac Lugano en toile de fond, voici que nous avons enfin la possibilité de tester les limites du nouveau 488 Spider. Une chance qui, l’espace d’un instant, laisse place à l’inquiétude. Bien que Sebastian Vettel ait prouvé à Bakou qu’une Ferrari ne devait pas être bloquée dans les bouchons – et que sa structure s’est révélée être très robuste lors d’impacts sur le circuit – les moteurs turbo de Formule 1 ont également fait leur chemin vers les 488GTB et 488 Spider. Mais, la plupart des critiques comparant cette architecture à un énorme coup de frein à l’émotion en Formule 1, c’est avec une légère appréhension que nous prenons place au volant de notre rutilant Spider jaune.

Mettons directement fin à ce mythe: le V8 Twin-Turbo de 3,9 litres a été élu Moteur International de l’Année 2017 et il offre tout ce que l’on peut attendre d’une Ferrari.

La Scuderia nous a déjà expliqué l’importance du son, de la vitesse et de la maniabilité pour la marque, sans exagération. Nous avons hâte de vérifier cela une fois au volant. Et quel spectacle s’offre à nous ! Pied sur le frein, nous pressons le fameux bouton de démarrage rouge, basculons le manettino en mode Course et ouvrons le toit. Avec 100 chevaux de plus que son prédécesseur 458 Italia, le 488 Spider fait savoir au monde que ses 670 chevaux sont prêts à l’action, effrayant toute vie sauvage qui aurait daigné s’approcher de notre voiture. Pied au plancher.

Le 488 Spider nous colle instantanément au fond de nos sièges. Nous revivons les sensations enivrantes de notre tour sur le grand huit Ferrari Rollercoaster d’Abou Dhabi. Oubliant presque que nous devons manier le volant nous-mêmes, nous essayons de boucler notre tour du circuit de l’aérodrome de Buochs – maison des légendaires avions Pilatus – que Ferrari nous a préparée avec une précision digne de Vettel.

Inutile de vous avouer que nous ne réussissons pas à établir un record du tour, soulignant clairement nos lacunes en termes de pilotage. Mais ce n’est pas un mal, cela ne fait que nous motiver à essayer encore et encore. La Ferrari n’est évidemment pas en cause. Elle nous fait savoir, grognant et de sifflant dans notre dos, qu’elle peut être encore plus rapide, de manière toujours plus fluide et plus précise à chaque virage, dévoilant ainsi le vrai potentiel de son ADN de Formule 1. Un grand sourire illumine notre visage à chaque changement de cap. Nous vous l’avons déjà dit: c’est une Ferrari. Le 488 Spider est meilleur, plus puissant, plus rapide que tout ce que nous avons pu conduire auparavant. Il ne s’agit pas d’une simple bête de foire, mais bien du pur-sang auquel nous espérions avoir affaire. Notre conseil : sortez votre carnet de chèques si vous ne l’avez pas déjà fait, car vous ne trouverez pas plus Ferrari que le 488 Spider – en tout cas jusqu’à l’arrivée de la “Speciale” ou peut-être s’agira-t-il de la GTO?

And when we were invited to the opening of the brand’s first showroom in Geneva a year later, we couldn’t have been more excited. The prestigious space has been designed, developed and created with the utmost attention to detail in order to blend customer experience with the exclusivity of the Bugatti brand.

When we arrived, we were immediately drawn to the superlative Supercar. The Chiron is the Bugatti Veyron’s little sister lauded as the “haute couture of the automobile world,” and boasts a unique position on the market thanks to its exceptional performances and exclusive design and comfort. Speaking of performance, some would refuse to believe what the latest Bugatti is capable of. With 1,500 horsepower, acceleration from 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds, and a top-speed of 261 mph, the Molsheim-based manufacturer has set the bar even higher.

Through its bespoke program, Bugatti offers to customise the Chiron from the body to the interior, and can satisfy every desire, whether different colours or the addition of logos and initials. Luxury is in the details.

Nevertheless, this recent episode has shown that even traditional car brands like Rolls-Royce are interested in bespoke designs, tailor made to their clients even most bizarre wishes. However, before contacting your local car-manufacturer, please fathom that this luxury is only bestowed upon a hand-full of people as it does not come cheap. Although the price has not been officially disclosed by Rolls-Royce, this true masterpiece is suggested to cost a whopping 12,8 million pounds.

C’est sur les rives du lac de Côme, homologue italien de notre lac Léman, que nous découvrons la stupéfiante Rolls-Royce Sweptail, produite en un seul exemplaire à la demande d’un client en mal d’exclusivité. Nous en avons le souffle coupé dès le premier coup d’œil. Répondant à une demande précise de son estimé client, Rolls-Royce crée un présage de l’euphorie des années folles en référence au design presque futuriste de la voiture de luxe ultime. Lors de son discours de présentation, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, PDG de Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, a déclaré: « La Sweptail est réellement une voiture magnifique. Elle incarne l’envie de voyager pour soi et propulse immédiatement «Sweptail» au panthéon des grandes voitures de tourisme intercontinentales. » Le design en coque de bateau de l’arrière de ce géant de six mètres, en parfaite symbiose avec son royal mais moderne intérieur, amène le luxe à un niveau encore jamais vu. Protégée par l’un des plus impressionnants toits panoramiques de l’industrie automobile, permettant à la lumière naturelle de se réfléchir sur le cuir beige, Rolls-Royce pourrait bien s’être damné en plaçant la barre, déjà extrêmement élevée, à des sommets stratosphériques.

Altrasluz. La Casa Del Agua Ardiente, on the other hand, is a restoration project. Observed from outside, this white cube and its conspicuous lack of windows presents an intriguing, enigmatic aesthetic. A collection of interplaying vertical lines await in the interior. The foundation is made out of metal, and the space is filled with glass panels from floor to ceiling. The dark flooring features stones in certain places, creating a mysterious setting sure to attract curious visitors. Jesus Castillo Oli showcases a unique form of architecture. A firm certainly worth exploring!

DESIGN

La Ruina Habitada is a private residence spanning around 1,300 sq. ft. The project was based on an industrial space with a dilapidated appearance. The exterior façade is a block of bricks punctuated with windows and “false windows” of varying dimensions, as well as a door crafted in COR-TEN steel. The interior features a range of materials, including metal, glass, wood and stone, in an effort to remain in harmony with the exterior while creating the impression of several extra additions. The idea was to preserve an overall consistency while injecting subtle differences.

The wooden frame offers a warmer ambiance in the interior, for example. All of the spaces are open, and the use of glass makes each area seem bigger. The house is furnished with elegant designer pieces, and also boasts a terrace and a small garden. The overall result is a blend of symmetrical materials in a perfect harmony.

pERFECT HARMONY

Architecture of the senses is the motto of the Spanish architecture firm Jesus Castillo Oli. Their goal is to study this discipline as a transmission of sensory elements. This approach consists of offering fundamental architecture that meets technical requirements, while pushing research further than usual. Sensation, perception and added value are just some of the different aspects promoted by this firm through its various projects. Two constructions from the studio really made us look twice – La Ruina Habitada (2006) and Altrasluz. La Casa Del Agua Ardiente (2014) in Spain.

L’architecture des sens est la devise du bureau d’architecture espagnol Jesus Castillo Oli. Leur but étant d’étudier cette discipline comme une transmission d’éléments sensoriels. Ceci consiste à proposer une architecture basique qui répond à des besoins techniques mais qui va plus loin dans la recherche. La sensation, la perception, la valeur ajoutée sont différents points que cette agence met en avant à travers ses projets. Deux constructions de cet atelier nous ont particulièrement interpellées; La Ruina Habitada (2006) et Altrasluz. La Casa Del Agua Ardiente (2014) en Espagne.

La Ruina Habitada est une maison privée offrant une surface habitable d’environ 120 m2. Le projet a démarré à partir d’un espace industriel à l’aspect en ruine. Sa façade extérieure représente un bloc de briques habillé de fenêtres et “fausses fenêtres“ aux dimensions variées et d’une porte en acier corten. L’intérieur se voit doter de matériaux tels que le métal, le verre, le bois et la pierre afin de rester dans le même esprit que l’extérieur tout en ayant l’impression d’avoir ajouter de légères touches en plus. L’idée est de garder une homogénéité. La charpente en bois apporte un aspect plus chaud à l’intérieur. Tous les espaces sont ouverts et l’utilisation du verre donne un effet d’agrandissement en plus. La maison est meublée de façon épurée et dispose d’une terrasse/petit jardin. Le tout se résume en un mélange de matériaux symétriques s’assemblant parfaitement bien.

Pour ce qui est de Altrasluz. La Casa Del Agua Ardiente, nous sommes cette fois-ci sur un projet de restauration.

Vu de l’extérieur, ce cube blanc marqué par l’absence de fenêtres intrigue par son air énigmatique. Un jeu de lignes verticales est ensuite créé à l’intérieur. La base est en métal et l’espace est rempli de panneaux en verre du sol au plafond. Un par terre sombre et couvert de pierres par endroits. Ce lieu mystérieux attire l’oeil curieux du visiteur.

Jesus Castillo Oli représente l’architecture d’une manière atypique. C’est assurément une entreprise à découvrir!

Founded in Biel in 1997, the mlzd architecture studio specialises in industrial, urban development and museum projects. The Swiss studio employs some 20 people from different countries, backgrounds and of different ages in order to draw on a varied range of cultures and perspectives. And it’s paying off: the passionate team’s dedication can be felt through their many projects.

The “Janus Project” was started after the firm won a competition in 2007. The goal was to offer the museum a brand-new appearance in order to attract the public. The exterior was revisited using a composite material cladding: thin layers of brass were applied to a core surface of polyethylene. This technique was used to create a bronzestyle façade, with the addition of circular shapes to the historical building. The renovation of the exterior was also designed to preserve the original doors and windows.

After entering the impressive building, we were invited to go into the main room two floors above. This space marks the beginning of the guided tour, and is large enough to host events. As well as this central area, the extension has created new spaces which can welcome a range of exhibitions. For example, the pieces showcased on the second floor are surrounded by windows offering exceptional views. Natural lighting fills the building’s third floor. This interplaying light offers a distinct atmosphere in different rooms, depending on the time of day and the season.

The new museum extension has given the older building a new lease of life. Visitors are drawn to the original shape, the enjoyable tours, and the simplified experience thanks to the innovative, elegant architecture and the natural light that have successfully created an aesthetic contrast between the past and the modern day.

For this issue, we visited a museum extension boasting an atypical façade. In 2010 and 2011, mlzd transformed the Rapperswil-Jona museum located on the banks of Lake Zurich.

Ce bureau suisse est composé d’une vingtaine de collaborateurs d’origines, expériences et âges différents afin d’apporter un éventail de cultures variées. Aujourd’hui, nous avons choisi de partager l’extension d’un musée à la façade atypique. En 2010-2011, mlzd a transformé le musée municipal Rapperswil-Jona situé au bord du lac de Zürich.

Le projet « janus » a commencé lors d’une compétition qu’il a remporté en 2007.

L’idée est d’apporter un tout nouveau profil au musée afin d’avoir un impact sur le public. L’extérieur a été réalisé à partir d’un revêtement au matériau composite; des couches de laiton de fine épaisseur ont été appliquées sur les surfaces d’un noyau de polyéthylène. Ceci a permis de créer une façade en bronze, incrustées de petites formes rondes, qui vient s’ajouter au bâtiment historique. De plus, elle a été pensée de façon à garder les fenêtres et les portes telles quelles.

Une fois l’entrée franchie, nous sommes invités à nous diriger dans la salle principale qui se trouve à deux étages du sol. Celle-ci est le point de départ d’une visite guidée et peut également servir de lieu événementiel. En plus de cet espace central, l’extension engendre de nouvelles surfaces pouvant accueillir différentes expositions. Au deuxième étage, par exemple, les pièces sont entourées de fenêtres offrant une vue exceptionnelle. De plus, un vif éclairage naturel traverse le bâtiment au troisième étage. Ces multiples jeux de lumières apportent une allure différente aux salles selon les moments de la journée ainsi que selon les saisons.

Ce nouveau complexe ajoute un regard frais au bâtiment de l’époque. Il attire le visiteur de par sa forme originale puis offre une visite agréable et simplifiée grâce à l’architecture et la lumière naturelle pour finalement créer un contraste esthétique entre le passé et le moderne.

The stars, the moon, the universe. Who hasn’t dreamed of travelling through the cosmos, wide eyes turned to the sky? Driven by our fascination for space, we decided to follow in the footsteps of Neil Armstrong and swap our telescope for a veritable launch into orbit in the Space Suite at the Grand Kameha Zurich hotel.

Drawing inspiration from his diverse projects on the theme of space flight, German artist Michael Najjar rose to the challenge of designing an actual space suite for the hotel. The establishment hopes to offer its guests – known as “crew members” – the feeling of really living in a space station.

As soon as we arrived we were bowled over by the perfectionism of the Space Suite.

User instructions were delivered by a female voice inspired by John Carpenter’s science-fiction film, Dark Star. The carpets on the floor and the ceiling were created by the artist based on high-res documents obtained from the Hubble Space Telescope, combined to form a new, fictional universe. The suite’s colour scheme is also inverted to emphasise the abstract experience – the space is white, and the stars are black.

We were astonished by every treasure revealed by the Space Suite, as if in a museum.

An astronaut’s glove sticking out of the wall particularly caught our attention. The object was designed by Najjar exclusively for the Space Suite, and enables crew members to store their mobile phones and keys. We also appreciated the lighting – in the shape of rocket engines – the floating bed, and the three, original works of art taken from the artist’s Outer Space series.

The window is covered with a semi-transparent sheet that blocks the view outside while letting light into the room. We felt as though we were in a bubble; protected from the world outdoors. The suite offers no TV channels, but instead a selection of films about space. We also found a library of old and new books, and an audio library, both on the same theme. The Space Suite is the ideal way to get out of the daily routine, and travel through a new world.

As we prepared to leave after our stay, we couldn’t help feeling nostalgic. Aside from the highly conceptual aspect of the room, we also enjoyed its generous volumes and exceptional comfort, as well as the quality of service at the hotel. As we touched-down into reality, we already couldn’t wait to fly back into the cosmos. Or perhaps explore any of the other ten themed rooms offered by the Grand Kameha Zurich hotel.

Les étoiles, la lune, l’univers. Qui n’a jamais rêvé de s’évader dans le cosmos alors qu’il regardait vers le ciel ? Fascinés par l’espace, nous décidons de suivre les traces de Neil Armstrong et troquer notre télescope contre une véritable expédition sur orbite, en séjournant dans la Space Suite située au Grand Kameha Zurich.

Dès notre arrivée, nous sommes subjugués par le perfectionnisme suggéré par la Space Suite. Les instructions d’utilisation sont divulguées par une voix féminine inspirée du film de science fiction « Dark Star » de John Carpenters. Les tapis fixés au sol et au plafond sont réalisés par l’artiste sur la base de fichiers highres provenant du Huble Space Telescope, et regroupés pour former un nouvel univers fictif. Les couleurs sont inversées afin de souligner le caractère abstrait ; l’espace est blanc, les étoiles noires.

Sur la base de ses diverses réalisations sur le thème du voyage spatial, l’artiste Michael Najjar a accepté le challenge de concevoir une suite spatiale pour l’hôtel, de manière à offrir au visiteur – appelé Crew Member – le sentiment de vivre sur une station spatiale.

Comme dans un musée, nous sommes émerveillés par chaque trésor révélé par la Space Suite. Un gant d’astronaute jaillissant du mur, attire particulièrement notre attention. L’objet conçu par Najjar, en exclusivité pour la Space Suite, permet au Crew Member d’y placer son téléphone ou ses clés. Nous apprécions également les luminaires en forme de moteurs de fusée, le lit flottant et les trois œuvres d’art originales provenant de la série « outer space » de l’artiste.

La fenêtre est recouverte d’une feuille semi-transparente qui bloque la visibilité vers l’extérieur mais permet à la lumière d’entrer. Comme dans une bulle, nous sommes « protégés» du monde extérieur. Les chaînes TV sont absentes pour laisser place à une sélection de films sur l’espace. Nous y trouvons également une bibliothèque de livres récents comme anciens, ainsi qu’une bibliothèque audio sur le même thème. Idéale pour se libérer du quotidien, la Space Suite nous fait voyager dans un autre monde.

Au moment de partir, la nostalgie se fait d’ores et déjà ressentir. Outre son caractère très conceptuel, nous apprécions la grandeur et le confort de la suite, mais également la qualité du service offert par l’hôtel. De retour au monde réel, nous sommes impatients de repartir dans le cosmos,… ou peut-être explorer l’un des 10 autres thèmes proposés par le Grand Kameha Zurich.

The trip to Lugano is one that fascinates the senses like no other.

With rain following us from Geneva, passing through the Gotthard is like entering a wormhole into another dimension. The exit of the 17 kilometres long tunnel greets us with bright rays of sun and a ten-degree temperature increase. It seems like we landed in a Swiss-Italian utopia, where the sun always shines and the Dolce Vita finds its balance with Swiss precision.

We mesmerize about the Lugano life while turning up the roads to our destination: the Kurhaus Cademario Hotel & Spa. The doors opened over one century ago and, now part of the prestigious Ticino Hotels Group - with the also sensational Villa Principe Leopoldo in its portfolio - this hotel & spa never seizes to amaze us. The first thing we can’t take our eyes of, is the stunning view over lake Lugano and its surroundings.

We settle in and immediately head down to the stunning 2200 sqm. DOT.Spa, boasting charisma, energy and power. Before heading into the water we revive ourselves with one of the Cellcosmet signature facial treatments. We spend one hour

Un voyage à Lugano n’a pas d’égal pour fasciner les sens. La pluie nous poursuivant depuis Genève, le passage du vortex du Gotthard nous transporte dans une autre dimension. A la sortie du tunnel de 17 kilomètres de long, nous sommes accueillis par de brillants rayons de soleil et le thermomètre affiche dix degrés de plus. Nous avons atterri dans une sorte d’utopie suisse-italienne, où le soleil brille en permanence et où la Dolce Vita vit en symbiose avec la précision suisse.

Nous nous émerveillons devant la vie luganaise tout en remontant les routes vers notre destination : Le Kurhaus Cademario Hotel & Spa. Cet établissement plus que centenaire fait aujourd’hui partie du prestigieux Ticino Hotels Group — dont le portefeuille comprend la sensationnelle Villa Principe Leopoldo, un hôtel et spa qui ne cesse de nous étonner. La première chose à laquelle nous ne pouvons pas résister, c’est bien sûr la vue imprenable sur le lac de Lugano et ses alentours.

Nous nous installons et descendons immédiatement à l’impressionnant DOT.Spa de 2200 m², éclatant de charisme, d’énergie et de puissance. Avant de nous y baigner, nous nous revitalisons avec l’un des traitements faciaux phares de Cellcosmet. Nous passons une heure de relaxation totale,

We continue our DOT.Spa experience with a swim in the pool, that connects to a magnificent exterior part with breath-taking views over the lake and garden. This is what we came for, and we totally disconnect from our hectic Geneva life and agenda.

Time to take a tour through the saunas and steam bath to revitalize our senses.

After cooling down, we decide to treat ourselves to a beautiful lunch at the ‘La Cucina’ restaurant where Chef Franco Passoni passionately creates poetry on a plate. Inspired by the East and Mediterranean, his dishes are a delicious culinary virtuosity.

Fulfilled after a long day full of experiences, we head to bed and dream about the beauty, the serenity and Mediterranean dolce vita that has overcome us. This truly is another dimension, and we never want to leave.

Il est maintenant temps de faire un tour dans les saunas et le hammam, pour revitaliser nos sens.

Après avoir refroidi, nous décidons de nous accorder un superbe déjeuner au restaurant “La Cucina”, où le Chef Franco Passoni crée de la poésie sur assiette. Inspiré par l’Orient et la Méditerranée, ses plats démontrent une délicieuse virtuosité culinaire.

Comblés, après une longue journée pleine d’expériences magnifiques, nous rêvons de la beauté, de la sérénité et de la Dolce Vita méditerranéenne qui nous ont subrmergés. Il s’agit véritablement d’une autre dimension, que nous ne voudrions plus jamais quitter.

Outre la qualité des soins nous sommes agréablement séduit par le service. Nous terminons cette visite en savourant un rafraichissant thé au jasmin. Plus qu’une expertise beauté, c’est une véritable croisière des sens, dans l’un des beaux spa genevois, où le temps semble être suspendu.

After being completely won over by their portfolio, we decided to take a closer look at MIA Design Studio.

This design and architecture firm founded in Vietnam by Manh Nguyen Hoang, Steven Baeteman and Bao Bui Hoang in 2003 expanded to Bali in Indonesia in 2009. Made up of architects, landscapers, interior designers and technicians, MIA Design is a studio driven by modern trends. It is renowned for the simple appearance of its projects, which place a particular importance on nature and local weather conditions.

Among the studio’s completed works, the Naman Pure Spa is easily the clearest demonstration of their vision of architecture and design. Located in the five-star Naman Retreat, the spa is an oasis of calm in the heart of lush greenery. The space offers some 15 rooms with breathtaking views over the hotel gardens, deep pools and vast sun loungers for two people. The spa also features a sports club, with meditation and yoga classes held in the “garden lounge” in the mornings.

As the Naman Spa is nestled next to the sunny coastline of the Central Vietnam region, temperatures can often be particularly high. With this in mind, MIA Design Studio focused on the creation of a natural ventilation system to ensure the building stays cool. The use of local plants also plays a major role in keeping the temperature down. What’s more, they have a high resistance to harsh weather conditions, lending the building a natural aesthetic while remaining sustainable and functional.

Every instant spent in the retreat is one of exceptional relaxation in a luxurious setting, thanks to the location of the spa, the modern, minimalistic architecture, and the intelligent use of local flora. Another premium project from MIA Design Studio and headed up by one of its founders, Manh Nguyen Hoang.

Entièrement séduits par leur travail, nous nous sommes cette fois-ci arrêtés sur le studio Mia Design. Cet atelier de design et d’architecture fondé au Vietnam en 2003 par Manh Nguyen Hoang, Steven Baeteman et Bao Bui Hoang s’est vu s’expandre jusqu’à Bali en 2009. Composé d’architectes, de paysagistes, de designers d’intérieur et de techniciens, Mia Design est un studio conduit par le mouvement moderne; il est connu pour ses projets aux allures simples tout en portant une attention particulière à la nature et aux conditions climatiques du lieu de construction.

Parmi leurs réalisations, le Naman Pure Spa est sans aucun doute le reflet de leur vision de l’architecture et du design. Situé dans le 5 étoiles du Naman Retreat, ce spa est un havre de paix recouvert de verdure.

Il est composé d’une quinzaine de pièces offrant une vue époustouflante sur les jardins de l’hôtel, de bains profonds et de larges lits de jour faits pour deux personnes. Il propose également un club de sport et des cours de méditation et yoga donnés dans le « jardin lounge » durant la matinée.

Le Naman Spa étant construit près de la côte ensoleillée du Centre du Vitenam, les températures peuvent être très élévées. Mia Design Studio a donc prêté particulièrement attention au système naturel de ventilation afin d’apporter une fraîcheur continue dans le bâtiment. L’utilisation de plantes locales joue également un rôle important pour garder le lieu frais. De plus, elles ont été choisies pour résister aux intempéries. Elles habillent de manière esthétique le bâtiment tout en étant fonctionnelles.

Chaque moment de la retraite devient un instant de relaxation exceptionnel dans des conditions luxueuses grâce à la localisation du spa, l’architecture moderne et minimaliste et l’utilisation de plantes locales. Le tout signé Mia Design Studio et orchestré par un de ses fondateurs, Manh Nguyen Hoang.

Rose. Rabbit. Lie. is one of their many creations – a restaurant/bar/club boasting an extravagant look. This unique concept is found in “Sin City” - better known as Las Vegas - and inspired by social clubs of the past. The design is based on architecture from the 1920s, and showcases a blend of modern arts and futuristic technology. The result is a wonderful harmony between times past and the digital age of tomorrow.

Tasked with revamping more than 10,500 sq. ft., Avroko developed the interior design, the furniture and all of the lighting in the restaurant.

The imposing entrance to Rose. Rabbit. Lie. at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas invites clients to discover a truly astonishing setting. The restaurant/bar/club features several rooms, each with a different aesthetic and line-up of events. The running theme linking each space is an Art Deco design revisited in a modern style. The design firm preferred a classic look for the furniture, while the lighting is an homage to innovation and modernism. The establishment’s colours boast tones of pink, mint and indigo matched with touches of metallic shades, and the leading materials used are metal, wood, leather and angora wool. The finishes conjure up images of a sumptuous, luxurious setting peppered with original features. The food and drinks menu also offers sophisticated fare befitting such breathtaking interior design.

Rose. Rabbit. Lie, ce restaurant/bar club à l’allure extravagante est une de leurs nombreuses réalisations. Ce lieu unique basé à « Sin City » ou plus connu sous le nom de Las Vegas, est une reproduction du club social de l’époque. Le design a été créé à partir d’une architecture datant des années 1920 et représente un mélange entre les arts modernes et la technologie futuristique. Le résultat s’exprime donc par l’assemblage d’éléments du passé avec ceux du digital de demain.

Sur plus de 1’000 m2, Avroko a réfléchi l’architecture d’intérieur, le mobilier ainsi que tous les luminaires qui habillent le restaurant.

L’entrée imposante de Rose. Rabbit. Lie au Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas invite les clients à découvrir un lieu étonnant. Le restaurant/bar club est composé de plusieurs pièces proposant une allure différente à chaque fois avec un programme et des animations propres à chacune. Le fil rouge guidant chaque salle est un motif Art Déco revisité en un style moderne.

L’agence de design est parti sur un style classique au niveau des meubles tandis que les lampes reflètent l’innovation et le modernisme. Quant aux couleurs, on retrouve des tonalités de rose, menthe et indigo avec des touches métalliques et les matériaux principaux sont le métal, le bois, le cuir ainsi que la laine angora. Les finitions suggèrent un environnement somptueux et luxueux avec des pointes d’originalité. La carte des mets et boissons propose également un menu sophistiqué à la hauteur de son design.

Une bulle de calme au dessus de l’agitation de la Bahnhofstrasse. Après une longue journée de shopping sur la célèbre rue zurichoise, nous décidons de nous rendre au Roof Top Restaurant. Niché au sixième étage du concept store Modissa, dans un décor mélangeant matériaux bruts et design contemporain, sa terrasse panoramique permet une vue inégalable sur la ville. Offrant une cuisine multiculturelle et variée, tels que le Dim Sum asiatique ou l’Angus Beef, le Roof Top Restaurant propose également de somptueux cocktails. C’est avec curiosité que nous nous laissons guider par le Heino, un cocktail à base de champagne et de yuzu. Sur le départ, nous sommes d’ores et déjà impatients de revenir pour le fameux brunch du dimanche.

An oasis of calm above the hustle and bustle of the Bahnhofstrasse. After a long day of shopping on the renowned street in Zürich, we decided to head to the Rooftop Restaurant. Located on the sixth f loor of the Modissa concept store, the establishment features interior design blending raw materials and contemporary style, and a panoramic terrace offering inimitable views over the city. As well as serving multicultural, varied cuisine such as Asian dim sum and Angus beef, the Rooftop Restaurant also offers a number of sumptuous cocktails. We gave in to our curiosity and indulged in a Heino – a cocktail concocted with champagne and yuzu. And when we left, we had already planned to come back for the restaurant’s renowned Sunday brunch!

The last time we visited Lausanne, we stopped by the Sky Lounge located at the Royal Savoy. Founded in 1909, the legendary palace hotel was under renovation for several years, and is now writing another chapter in its rich and varied life. This historic building boasts Art-Deco style and a stunning heritage we couldn’t wait to rediscover. Upon arriving on the top floor, we excitedly made our way to the Sky Lounge, a modern, 52-seat rooftop with breathtaking views over Lausanne and the Alps. We particularly enjoyed the cuisine, which blends Asian, Italian and Spanish inspirations. As for the cocktails, the menu is an invitation to discover Peru with the Machu Picchu, or Arabia with the 1001 Nights. With its sophisticated, round-the-world cuisine and cocktails, the Sky Lounge is a unique setting offering a combination of elegance, history and modernity.

Lors de notre dernier passage à Lausanne, nous nous arrêtons au Sky Lounge, situé au Royal Savoy. After finishing our day, we took to the skies for after-work drinks on the roof of the Hotel Metropole, perfectly located on the Rue du Rhône. On the top floor, the Big 5 bar is a welcome new addition to the original 5 Lounge, offering a vast space and remarkable comfort. As well as the high-quality service, the terrace boasts an atypical setting with panoramic views over the Genevan harbour.

This year’s summer season announces a new cocktail menu crafted with fresh products, and Lebanese-inspired cuisine cooked up by the renowned Chef Fouad Klayani. The space in which the A La Recherche installation is exhibited was originally a reservoir source for a spa during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The interior spans around 215 sq. ft. and offers 50ft-high ceilings, with the sculpture rotating slowly in the centre.

The exploded disco ball and the reflections across the walls symbolise the glory days of this legendary institution.

L’installation A La Recherche a été créée sur mesure pour aménager un espace dans la fameuse boîte de nuit Les Bains à Paris. Célèbre spot du monde de la nuit des années 80-90 qui, par la suite, a été transformé en un hôtel, restaurant et club.

Signée Joachim Sauter, artiste designer berlinois, cette sculpture représente une boule à facettes explosée recouvrant les murs de multiples points lumineux éparpillés composant les mots “retrouve le temps perdu“. On peut lire cette phrase de plusieurs façons différentes; re trouve le temps perdu, le temps perdu retrouvé, perdu le temps... Ces mots font référence au légendaire passé du club Les Bains. Ils font également un parallèle à la célèbre oeuvre “A la recherche du temps perdu“ de l’écrivain français Marcel Proust.

L’espace dans lequel A La Recherche se trouve, avait pour fonction de départ un réservoir d’eau pour le spa durant le XIXe - début du XXe siècle. A l’intérieur d’une surface de 20 m2 et une hauteur de plafond de 15 mètres, l’oeuvre est en rotation lente dans l’espace.

La boule de disco éclatée et les réflexions projetées aux murs symbolisent les années folles de ce lieu mythique.

Berlin artist and designer Joachim Sauter created the sculpture, representing an exploded disco ball covering the walls with scattered, sparkling shards to make up the phrase “retrouve le temps perdu” (“find lost time”). The inscription can be read in several different ways in French, translating as “find lost time”, “lost time found”, and “time is lost.” The words are a nod to the legendary past of the Les Bains nightclub, while paying homage to the renowned work by French writer Marcel Proust, In Search of Lost Time.

The A La Recherche sculpture installation was tailor-made as part of a new space in the renowned Les Bains nightclub in Paris. This establishment was a lively smart-set hotspot during the 1980s and 1990s, and has since been transformed into a hotel, restaurant and club.

Ideally located, just a stone’s throw from the Grand Théâtre, the restaurant La Bottega serves up a contemporary take on Italian cuisine. Against the blended backdrop of natural and contemporary design, Chef Francesco Gasbarro and his team revisit the classics. The restaurant is minimalistic and conceptual while offering the highest quality, and its mouth-watering, culinary journey through Italy has earned it a Michelin star. The establishment also boasts an impressive wine cellar and an accomplished oenologist who can provide advice on the best food and wine pairings.

The menu varies on a regular basis, and also proposes set-menus ranging from four to nine dishes, inviting diners to discover the full spectrum of Italian flavours. A restaurant where every experience is a journey defined by pleasure.

A quelques pas du Grand Théâtre à Genève, idéalement situé, le restaurant La Bottega offre une approche contemporaine de la cuisine italienne. Nous apprécions particulièrement l’impressionnante cave à vins et l’œnologue averti et ses délicieuses suggestions. Le menu, qui varie très régulièrement, propose des formules de 4 à 9 plats, afin de nous faire découvrir l’éventail des saveurs. Une adresse qui ne cesse de nous faire voyager, pour notre plus grand plaisir.

Insert the rosemary branch into the bulb glass. Pile the cucumber and the rosemary in the shaker and add the gin and the manzanita. Shake and pour into the light bulb. Complement with the apple juice and silver powder, stir and enjoy the magic shine!

THE COMPOSITION

4cl Hendrick’s Gin 2cl Manzanita 4 slices of cucumber 2 twigs of rosemary 1 teaspoon of eatable silver powder 10cl Sparkling Apple Juice Un savant mélange rafraichissant d’herbe aromatique et de concombre, le tout lié avec douceur par la liqueur de pomme. Visuellement surprenant avec son aspect brillant et son verre en forme d’ampoule c’est un véritable coup de cœur qui nous ferait presque oublier que l’on travaille le lendemain.

Insérer la branche de romarin dans le verre ampoule. Piler dans le shaker le concombre et le romarin, verser le gin et la manzanita. Shaker le tout et verser dans l’ampoule. Compléter avec le jus de pomme et la poudre d’argent.

Meticulously developed blends combining aromatic herbs, saffron and even liquorice create bold f lavours and a truly gustatory experience. Our personal favourites were the chocolate fondants, which offered subtle flavours and unique aromas such as Earl Grey tea, blackcurrant and pistachio.

With an increasingly diverse and delicious range of ganaches, sweet boxes and chocolate bars, Philippe Pascoët certainly deserves his prestige. We didn’t think twice about stopping by his boutique in Carouge to indulge in a (guilty) little pleasure.

La Suisse et le chocolat ? Une grande histoire d’amour. Mais au delà de ce cliché, presque réducteur, se cache une réelle maîtrise culinaire. L’appellation « Maitre Chocolatier Suisse » est certes un gage de qualité, mais plus que le titre, c’est la passion du chocolat qui pousse Philippe Pascoët à se réinventer chaque jour.

Son inspiration ? Il la puise à travers ses voyages et ses rencontres ; tel un parfumeur, ses compositions sont à son image : inédites et savoureuses.

Des mariages recherchés, mêlant herbes aromatiques, safran ou encore réglisse et donnant naissance à des saveurs intactes et à une véritable expérience gustative. Notre coup de cœur ? Les moelleux, aux goûts subtils et aux parfums originaux : Thé Earl Grey, cassis ou encore pistache.

Avec une gamme toujours plus variée et savoureuse de ganaches, bonbonnières et tablettes, Philippe Pascoët mérite ses distinctions, et ce sont les yeux fermés que nous nous rendons dans sa boutique de Carouge afin de satisfaire ce plaisir.

The media in Geneva was in collective mourning in early 2016, as yet another eatery on the Rue du Rhône disappeared. This time it was Le Baroque Restaurant. But the passionate duo behind the establishment – brothers Mehdi and Misam Ghadiali – had other plans, and soon reopened the beloved restaurant on the Passage des Lions in the heart of Geneva.

Début 2016, les médias et les Genevois s’émouvaient de la disparition d’un énième restaurant à la rue du Rhône, le Baroque Restaurant, qui allait fermer ses portes. Mais le duo de passionnés que forme les frères Mehdi et Misam Ghadiali, ne doutait pas que l’hyper-centre de Genève verrait prochainement renaître le Baroque Restaurant au Passage des Lions.

Poésie festive. Convivialité exclusive. Fidèle à ses origines, le Baroque Restaurant, revient dans un nouvel écrin exceptionnel. Entre la célèbre rue du Rhône et Confédération, est né un lieu hors du temps. Havre niché dans la ville, le nouveau Baroque Restaurant baigne dans la lumière naturelle d’une verrière historique. Entre larges baies vitrées et éclairages extraordinaires, les jeux de lumière se font tour à tour spectaculaires ou tamisés. De nuit, les scintillements des étoiles se devinent. TA « sIGNATuRE looK » ? Indéniablement mon red lipstick. Je n’ai pas de marques favorites, je change en fonction de mon humeur, mais la teinte reste quasiment toujours la même.
