Approval given for works at Abbey Vocational School

Pat the Cope Gallagher has informed The Eye that approval has been granted for the design and construction of a General Purpose / Dining Area for the Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town. The approval for the 390 sq m development comes following extensive lobbying of the Department over the past number of years. The school has also been granted planning permission approval for two temporary classrooms, while applications are being prepared for 6 permanent classrooms and a new ASD unit at the School. The AVS is currently experiencing a massive growth in student enrolment and earlier this year temporary accommodation had to be approved for the school in order

to cater for the 180 new enrolments in this current academic year alone. “The approval granted will assist the school in providing additional common space within the school and that is to be welcomed, as the school is currently under pressure for space with the very large school enrolment”, said Pat the Cope. Pat the Cope also said he will continue to maintain pressure on the Department of Education to approve the major capital works the school urgently needs. “I wish to compliment the school management, staff and the ETB for their ongoing commitment to the school and the excellent work they do on behalf of the school,” concluded Pat the Cope.

Donegal’s version of the Late Late Toy Show comes to town! For those who cannot attend the RTE studios in Donnybrook for the Late Late Toy Show, Elaine McInaw at the Abbey Hotel has organised Donegal Town’s own Toy Show in the hotel on Sunday 25th November. Applications are invited from children between the ages of 4 and 10 years who would like to take part in demonstrating toys, reviewing books, or entertaining the audience in song or dance. The closing date for these applications is Friday 16th November. It’s proving to be a very popular event as within twenty four hours of it being announced sixty applications were received. Talking to The Eye, Marketing Manager Elaine remarked on how popular this show proved last year when it was held in the Central and due to its popularity she is hosting it again this year in the Abbey Hotel. “This is an opportunity for children to see

and decide what they want from Santa for Christmas and is just in time for them to write their letters and post them to Santa the following Sunday at the Little Taste of Christmas event here in the Abbey.

“We have two local shops in town linking up with our show, the Four Masters Book Shop are supplying the books for review and Proper Price Toymaster Toy Shop over at Drumrooske Business Park are providing the toys; our aim is to encourage shopping locally,” Elaine said. Doors open at 2pm on the Sunday with the show commencing at 3pm, it’s free for children and only €10 for adults. An afternoon of fun and excitement - not to be missed.
