HOW I REIMAGINED TRADITIONAL BUSINESS HEADSHOTS Welcome to C-Suite Pics®!

I am a DC-based “edutographer” whose work aims to see what is, imagine what can be, and work creatively to get there together with my clients. I’m especially passionate about helping underserved children and female leaders of color envision and achieve their best selves. My introduction to photography was in a darkroom a few decades ago, but since I picked up my first digital camera in 2007 (a Nikon, if you’re wondering), my camera is my second favorite accessory -- right behind a fabulous statement necklace, of course!

I founded Eyemagination Imaging in 2009, offering lifestyle photography. I feel privileged to use my gift for photography to literally capture and preserve time for the interesting, diverse, talented, brilliant

individuals, families and organizations with whom I’m blessed to work. My tagline has always been “From personal to professional, eyemagine your best you”. A wonderful conference with which I’m affiliated, Flourish Conference for Women in Leadership, showed me just how prescient my tagline had been, and C-Suite Pics® was born.

At the 2014 Cleveland Flourish Conference for Women in Leadership, I was so inspired by the stories of the keynote and executive chat speakers whose sessions I captured. When I went online to learn more about these dynamic executives, I saw beautiful women, flawless makeup, fantastic lighting, and boring backgrounds that looked identical across professionals. And that was IF these high-powered women even had a professional head shot. Because I attend quite a few conferences for my education research work, I eyemagined that I could get great on-location portraits of these women in much less time than it takes to go to a studio. And, when privileged to work with you for a longer, personalized session, the possibilities for awesomeness are endless!

MEET TERLISA SHEPPARD, a disabled retiree from the Department of Defense and founder of Terlisa Fights Breast Cancer, Inc., a nonprofit organization that motivates and encourages other survivors to fight through their illness with a positive attitude, and live life to the fullest Terlisa is a 3- time terminal breast cancer survivor herself, so she knows a lot about both fighting and living! Thank you, Terlisa, for sharing part of your journey with us!

If you had it all to do over again, would you do anything differently?

What is your “day job”?

I am disabled retired from Department of Defense and now founder of a non-profit breast cancer organization called, “Terlisa Fights Breast Cancer, Inc.” I am a 3- time terminal breast cancer survivor.

Who were your heroes, or mentors?

Yes, I would have been a little more proactive concerning my health, but this lesson/journey of mine has been a blessing to so many others who are touched by my story. I am encouraged to continue mentoring all cancer survivors all over the world.

My mother was my main hero; she just passed this year, and my siblings have been my mentors. I am one of ten children.

What do you do for you that brings you absolute joy or peace?

When did you decide you were an advocate, that this would be your journey?

I love spending time with my daughters at the beach. The water gives me a sense of relaxation and a time to reflect on the blessings from my journey. I love doing road trips with my girls, as well, because we tend to spend lots of time laughing and not thinking about my pain.

I decided I was destined to fight through this breast cancer journey when I was diagnosed with breast cancer while I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with my youngest daughter, at the age of 31. I knew that this fight wasn’t just about me, but the will to live so that my daughters would know who their mother was.

I have been re-diagnosed three times with the cancer spreading to my bones, lungs, liver, abdomen, spine, and brain, and now my cancer status is considered terminal. I still have the will to fight and to encourage and inspire others after 18 years of survivorship. This is my journey!

What would you like your epitaph to be?

My epitaph would be, “Live each day as though it’s your last.” Always be a blessing to others!

If you weren’t in your current career, what would life look like?

I am disabled retired from Department of Defense and now founder of a non-profit breast cancer organization called, “Terlisa Fights Breast Cancer, Inc.” I am a 3- time terminal breast cancer survivor.

I am happy to have learned early that “You don’t have to make the mistake to learn from it.” What is the toughest lesson you’ve learned, that you hope another woman can learn from you?

I have learned a lot through my initial misdiagnosis of breast cancer. My oncologist at the time, thought that the lump in my breast was from milk ducts due to my pregnancy. Although I had inquired about this for some time, it wasn’t until I insisted that further tests be done to check it out. It turned out to be stage 3 breast cancer and the pregnancy was making it grow at an alarming rate. The lesson that I learned from this experience was to follow through on your strong inclinations. This very well could have save my and my daughter’s life.

If you only had one word, what is it that you want people to remember about you?

The word that I would want people to remember me by is a “fighter” until the end!

Is there anything else you wish I’d asked you?

What is your driving force and what keeps you fighting and surviving everyday in the midst of all you go through on a daily basis?

Think about all of the things that make up your personal brand and what you want others to take away from a glance at your new professional portrait. Brainstorm some key words and phrases and bring them to your mini session. This simple step will help me personalize your session, from posing to backgrounds.

2 UNDERSTAND BODY It’s important that your look matches the image you’re trying to convey. What you wear professionally on a daily basis is a great place to start. Structured tops with strong collars and necklines are always a great choice! Even though you’ll mostly be shot from the shoulders up, it’s important you’re pulled together from head to toe—we will get a shot or two that are pulled back a bit to show off your entire look and your vibrant surroundings.

UNDERSTAND COLOR A good rule of thumb is to pick a color you wear that yields lots of compliments! Typically, pastels (think peach, mint, or lavender) go well with outdoor scenes. Primary colors such as blue, red, and yellow complement modern locations like a boutique hotel. Based on your brand and your choice of look, we may take a few shots indoors and outside in the immediate vicinity of the shoot location.

FOLLOW ME!

Simply put, be prepared to look like your best YOU. Wear your hair in a style you know is flattering, and one that can withstand a few hours of potentially fluctuating temperatures . Wear makeup you feel comfortable and glamorous in for a mini shoot. For private sessions, just come with a clean face and our makeup artist will take it from there! One more thing, if you own contacts, please wear them! If not, please be prepared to take most poses with and without your prescription glasses. Save the accessories for a great statement necklace, not your designer shades or personality glasses (unless you make or sell glasses J).

I am excited to work with you BECAUSE you are an amazing leader. I believe that means you understand the value of your money and your time. We have 10-15 minutes together for a mini session, which will allow us to capture gorgeous images if you read and follow Tips 1-5, especially Tip 5 J! If I ask you to do anything that makes you uncomfortable (other than removing those pesky glasses...), please do let me know. But, please come prepared to relax and allow me to lead here. You will be glad you did!

$450 Executive Sessions include a pre-shoot consultation with styling support, 2.5 hour portrait art session with expert makeup application for one, and private online proofing gallery of at least 30 artfully finished images.

While the $450 sitting fee is non-refundable, the entire value will be credited toward either your preferred portrait package or the cost of individual images. Because we understand your schedule can sometimes be as dynamic as you are, we allow our executive clients one reschedule without additional cost.

Sessions include unlimited looks within each 2.5 hour window. Additional session time is billed in 1/2-hour increments.
