Corotating Twin-Screw Extruders

Bandera corotating twin-screw extruders: the cutting-edge solution Bandera production range includes cutting-edge corotating twinscrew extruders (2C series) in standard configuration and/or for special applications (HVTSE series).

Bandera technology - the benefits

Bandera is synonym for excellence in manufacturing extruders (screws and barrels) with ancillary components, and in customer servicing The company Luigi Bandera manufactures an extremely wide range of extruders, as well as of screws and barrels intended for single extrusion lines (both single, and corotating or counterotating twin-screw) at its own production premises. The in-depth analysis of special and customertailored profiles has led to the ongoing improvement of production performance in the most different applications. Bandera provides special surface treatments of extrusion screws and barrels to prevent any erosion and corrosion issues. Bandera proven industrial expertise, combined with a 65-year heritage and cutting-edge technology, ensures top quality level products. Bandera has thoroughly invested in process servicing, creating a team of highly-qualified and skilled technicians. Bandera customers are constantly supported in problem solving as well as in line putting into service and final testing, in a mutual exchange of expertise and know-how. As a further support to after-sale service, Bandera Spare Part Dept outstands for efficiency in providing customers with the most suitable component parts, both at production and at maintenance stages. Bandera provides advanced and innovative turnkey solutions – from engineering, designing and manufacturing steps, from line assembly and putting into service to end up with to staff training. Bandera is also the most reliable partner in existing machinery revamping.

Direct “Compounding/Recycling” extrusion eliminates the need for pelletizing, thus leading to a one-step transforming process. The resulting benefits are definitely important in terms of power saving, minimized investments and simplified production. The “Compounding/ Recycling” method ensures cost effective process with minimized power costs, up to half the standard systems. Cost reduction is achieved through: no need for material and compound re-processing no shear and thermal stress normally associated with processes requiring a new melting/cooling stage cut of energy costs: no need for power consumption due to compound “re-” heating and cooling no limitation in extruder feeding. Up to 100% ground flakes without any reduction in line output due to the installation of force-feeding systems, low-density material recycling/compounding is made possible (e.g. ground and foamed film) in its patented HVTSE version, no need for raw and ground materials dehumidification, thanks to the top efficiency of high-vacuum venting systems installed. Similarly, no need for flakes crystallization (e.g.: PET PLA and PS flakes) before extrusion. Indeed, degradation is well kept within admitted limits

Reference applications and markets Bandera corotating twin-screw extruders intended for compounding/ recycling sector are also suitable for several high-tech applications in different sectors, some of which are listed here below. PET recycling - actually the major application field: direct extrusion foil for thermoforming intended for industrial and food packaging recycling and compounding of moist and contaminated process materials or printed PE/PP- or HIPS-based materials, requiring high-capacity venting food industry for cooking and mixing of vegetable process materials, such as flour and cereals synthetic fibre textile industry: PP, virgin PET, PET flakes for staple fibres, spunbond, and melt blown piping for building sector: multi-layer pipes from filler-added/ reinforced glass fibres materials, mineral filler for soundproofing finishing, low-cost standard pipes with mineral fillers automotive field: for thermoplastics and TPO/TPU composite foil and sheet direct extrusion/compounding

Bandera joins PTI to sell PET/PLA dryerless corotating twin-screw extruders in the Northern America region Since January 2010, Bandera has entered a strategic alliance with PTI (Aurora - Illinois) to supply the American market with dryerless sheet extrusion lines to process PET and polylactic acids (PLA) equipped with Bandera cutting-edge corotating twin-screw extruders. Although widely applied on the European markets, PET and PLA dryerless extrusion is relatively less known in Northern America. This is the reason why Bandera and PTI have entered a 10-year agreement focussed on the supply of equipment for complete sheet extrusion lines, to be based on Bandera HVTSE corotating twinscrew extruders. PTI is in charge of supplying the downstream section, the control system and the electrical components, to be distributed all over North America in compliance with US standards. PTI and Bandera mutually agreed to keep a complete extrusion line permanently on show in Aurora, Illinois. According to its agreement obligations, PTI is going to promote Bandera technology by incorporating it into its extrusion lines, and to provide for technical assistance and customer service.

Technical specifications Extruder design, manufacture, and assembly is 100% Bandera. Putting-into-service is fully managed by Bandera technicians. Bandera corotating twin-screw extruder production range involves 55mm, 70mm, 85mm, 105mm, 135mm, and 170mm diameter sizes in 18 L/D, 34 L/D, 42 L/D and HVTSE 52 L/D versions. Diathermic oil or air cooling systems are available. Output capacity is comprised between 300 and 3,500 kg/h, depending on the specific features of the process materials. The HTS-series modular gear reduction units are adaptable to any operating condition of any specific application. Extrusion screws consist of splined shafts with a number of conveying and mixing modular sections, made from tempered wear-resistant steel. Extrusion barrels, of the modular type as well, are offered in nitrided steel, or with interchangeable sections made from wear-resistant material.
