Steelmen’s new man

Businessman outlines plans for the club he’s taken over > Corby Town

In Short It has been a difficult season for Corby Town and its supporters and the general consensus is that something needs to be done. New owner Kevin Ingram has come in, brought in a new manager and there’s an air of optimism around the club that has been badly missing recently. THE new owner of Corby Town has pledged his desire to put the football club at the heart of the community. Days after finalising the takeover, businessman Kevin Ingram was keen to share his vision at a press conference held at the Steelmen’s ground at Rockingham Road. Early decisions include match ticket prices dropping from £11 to £10, letting under-16s watch the games

NEW MAN: Owner Kevin Ingram will drive Corby Town forward for free and improved links with schools and businesses. The Leicestershire-based businessman, who is a selfconfessed fan of Leicester Tigers rugby team, said he was drawn to the club and Corby because of its potential. “The future is very exciting,” he said. “I feel it is a unique opportunity. Corby is coming from a long way behind and has a long way

to go and has so much in front of it.” The takeover comes after months of speculation about the club’s challenges on and off the pitch. At the same press conference the new manager, Ian Sampson, was unveiled. The arrival of the former Northampton Town boss comes at the end of a disappointing season in the Blue Square Bet North division. Mr Ingram said: “We need to boost community and commercial development. My key mantra is sustainability. I want to remove the volatility of previous seasons. “This has to be a longterm commitment. If we want to climb through the leagues we have to lay the foundations. We need to do this properly and on an ethical basis.” Corby Borough Council’s support and involve-

ment will be crucial and talks will also get under way between the club and the newly launched Corby Town Supporters Trust. This could include a ‘place at the top table’ for a Trust representative, joining former acting chairman David Mallinger and former acting vice-chairman Graham Starmer, who will continue to have seats on the board. Mr Ingram said: “Corby Town is going to be a club that does things the right way; it is going to be a club people will want to be associated with and one other clubs will look at with envy. To achieve that we’re going to need everyone’s help. “It is my ambition to build a highly motivated football team who will become ambassadors for the area and wear the shirt with pride.” New manager’s vision.
