A SPARKLING royal welcome awaited the Queen on her much-anticipated Diamond Jubilee visit to Corby today.
While the rest of the country was packing away its bunting, the town’s Jubilee party was still going strong – with a packed programme to entertain the royal visitor and thousands of people set to line the streets. It was a particularly special day for Jack Williams, three, a nursery pupil at Kingswood Primary School and Alyshea Moyo, four, who goes to St Patrick’s RC Primary School. They were handing over posies to Her Majesty on her arrival in the town. The Queen was set to visit the Corby East Midlands International Pool and the Corby Cube on Parkland Gateway in her first visit to the town in 11 years. Today’s events include music, dance and drama and an aquatic display. More than 300 people were set to perform before the royal visitor. They included Corby Business Academy Year 9 student Eloise Robertson, part of a 26-strong youth choir. She said: “To be part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations is just brilliant.” The Queen was being welcomed to Corby by the sound of the Grampian Pipe Band and Highland dancers – celebrating the town’s Scottish roots. Council leader Tom Beattie said: “I think this is a day that everyone in Corby can be proud of.”
