Twelve-hour delays are expected Wednesday at Heathrow, Europe’s busiest airport, when an estimated 2 million workers plan a 24-hour walkout to protest public-sector pension changes.

Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich landed the endorsement of New Hampshire’s largest newspaper on Sunday while rival Mitt Romney earned a dismissive wave, potentially resetting the race in the state with the firstin-the-nation primary. For Gingrich, the former House speaker, the backing builds on his recent rise in the polls and quick work to build a campaign after a disastrous start in the summer. Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who has a vacation home in the state and has been called a “nearly native son of New Hampshire,” absorbed the blow heading into the Jan. 10 vote that’s vital to his campaign strategy. “We are in critical need of the innovative, forward-looking strategy and positive leadership that Gingrich has shown he is capable of providing,” the New Hampshire Union Leader said in its front-page editorial, which was as much a promotion of Gingrich as a discreet rebuke of Romney.

De Ikhfh_i[ The Union Leader’s rejection of Mitt Romney wasn’t surprising despite his efforts to woo state leaders. The newspaper rejected Romney four years ago in favor of Arizona Sen. John McCain. Earlier this year, Romney and his wife, Ann, had dinner with publisher Joseph W. McQuaid and his wife at the Bedford Village Inn hoping to reset the relationship. It didn’t prove to be enough.

The editorial telegraphed conservatives’ concerns about Romney’s shifts on crucial issues of abortion and gay rights were unlikely to fade. The endorsement boosts Gingrich’s conservative credentials. He spent the week defending his immigration policies against accusations that they are a form of amnesty. On Monday, Gingrich takes a campaign swing through South Carolina, the South’s first primary state. In the WMUR-University of New Hampshire Granite State poll, released last week, Romney nabbed 42 percent support among likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire. Gingrich followed with 15 percent. Those numbers could shift based on the backing of the Union Leader, a newspaper that proudly works to influence elections. Even so, the newspaper has a decidedly mixed record of picking candidates. It backed Steve Forbes in 2000 and Pat Buchanan’s 1992 and 1996 bids. Neither candidate won the Republican nomination. 3 Americans reunite with their families after arrest in Egypt Ij$ Bek_i

An American student arrested with two others during protests in Cairo said they were threatened with guns, hit and forced to lay for hours in a near-fetal position in the dark with their hands behind their backs. “They said if we moved at all, even an inch, they would shoot us,” said Derrik Sweeney, a 19-year-old Georgetown University student from Jefferson City, Mo. The students flew home Saturday after an Egyptian court ordered their release. The three had been spending the semester studying abroad at American University in Cairo, which is near Tahrir Square, where a new wave of protests began more than a week ago. Sweeney said the evening of his arrest on Nov. 20 started peacefully. He and other students later wan-

Afghanistan officials claimed Sunday that Afghan and NATO forces were retaliating for gunfire from two Pakistani army bases when they called in airstrikes that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers, adding a layer of complexity to an episode that has further strained Pakistan’s ties with the United States. The account challenged Pakistan’s claim that the strikes were unprovoked. The attack Saturday near the Afghan-Pakistani border aroused popular anger in Pakistan and added tension to the U.S.-Pakistani relationship, which has been under pressure since the secret U.S. raid inside Pakistan that killed Osama bin Laden in May. Pakistan has closed its western border to trucks delivering supplies to coalition troops in Afghanistan, demanded that the U.S. abandon an air base inside Pakistan, and

said it will review its cooperation with the U.S. and NATO. A complete breakdown in the relationship between the U.S. and Pakistan is unlikely. Pakistan relies on billions of dollars in American aid, and the U.S. needs Pakistan to push Afghan insurgents to participate in peace talks. Afghanistan’s assertions about the attack muddy the efforts to determine what happened. Afghan officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it was unclear who fired on Afghan and NATO forces, which were conducting a joint operation before dawn Saturday. NATO has said it is investigating. Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen offered his condolences and said the coalition was committed to working with Pakistan to “avoid such tragedies in the future.” NATO officials have complained that insurgents fire from across the poorly defined frontier, often from positions close to Pakistani soldiers, who have been accused of tolerating or supporting them. The U.S. plans its own inquiry. R AHIM FAIEZ AND SEBASTIAN ABBOT (AP)

Arab League Rebukes Assad With Sanctions Landmark measures highlight anger at Syria over bloodshed

in Tenggarong, Indonesia, that fell Saturday. Officials said 39 people were rescued, but 40 were missing.

In an unprecedented move against a fellow Arab nation, the Arab League on Sunday approved economic sanctions on Syria to pressure Damascus to end its deadly suppression of an eight-month uprising. But even as world leaders abandon President Bashar Assad, the regime has refused to ease a military assault on dissent that already has killed more than 3,500 people. On Sunday, Damascus slammed the

tral bank, halting Arab funding for projects in Syria and freezing government assets. Those sanctions are to take effect immediately. Other steps, including halting flights and imposing travel bans on some, as-yet unnamed Syrian officials, will come later after a committee reviews them. “Power is worth nothing while you stand as an enemy to your people, bin Jassim said. Iraq and Lebanon — important trading partners for Syria — abstained from the vote. The regime has shown no signs of easing its crackdown, and activist groups said more than 30 people were killed Sunday. The death toll was impossible to confirm. (AP)

8WYaijeho The Arab League sanctions are the latest in a growing wave of international pressure on Damascus to end its crackdown. The EU and the U.S. already have imposed sanctions, the League has suspended Syria’s membership, and world leaders increasingly are calling on president Bashar Assad to go. But as the crisis drags on, the violence appears to be spiraling out of control as attacks by army defectors increase and protesters take up arms. (AP)

The sanctions are among the clearest signs yet of Syria’s isolation. Damascus has long boasted of being a powerhouse of Arab nationalism, but Assad has been abandoned by some of his closest

allies and now his Arab neighbors. The growing movement against his regime could transform some of the most enduring alliances in the Middle East and beyond. Qatari Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jassim said 19 of the League’s 22 member nations approved punishments that include cutting off transactions with the Syrian cen-

Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell has named an information technology executive and an unsuccessful legislative candidate to the board of the authority that operates Reagan National and Dulles International airports and is managing construction of the $6 billion Metrorail expansion to Loudoun County. Todd Stottlemyer of Oakton, Va. — chief executive of the Silver Spring-based technology firm Acentia — and Caren Merrick of McLean, Va. — a businesswoman who ran for the state Senate this month — will join the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. McDonnell, a Republican, who made the appointments last week,

has strong ties to Stottlemyer and Merrick, who have donated to his campaigns. T he appoint ment s fol low McDonnell’s long-standing attempt to get more seats on the board and other regional transit groups. He pushed to have a representative on the Metro board and eventually persuaded the General Assembly to give him the authority to make an appointment. The MWAA has been criticized over how it operates and for its management of the 23-mile Dulles rail project. Phase 1, which is under construction from Falls Church to Reston, could run as much as

$150 million over budget. The appointments come out of new congressional legislation introduced by Rep. Frank R. Wolf, R-Va., to expand the board from 13 to 17 members. Chris Ma, Express Visionary Founder and publisher of Washington Post’s free daily commuter newspaper dies at 61

<hec j^[ IjW\\

A Master Mentor

EX_jkWho Christopher Ma, a veteran journalist and innovative new-media pioneer who was senior vice president for development of The Washington Post Co., died Nov. 23 at a hospital in New York City. He was 61. He had a heart attack, said his wife, Nathalie Gilfoyle. Over the past 14 years, Mr. Ma played a pivotal role in taking The Post’s family of products beyond those of a traditional newspaper. He pushed the company to launch Express, a daily tabloid designed for commuters that became profitable, and guided the purchase and business-side operations of El Tiempo Latino, a Spanish-language weekly that The Post acquired in 2004.

Mr. Ma spearheaded Whorunsgov.com, an online resource with profiles of lawmakers, lobbyists, military leaders and other Washington figures. Other online projects he shepherded included a collaboration with OnGo. com, a news aggregation site. “Chris was a man of impressive journalism and business achievements, but he was also … much more important to people than that,” said Washington Post Chairman Donald E. Graham. Mr. Ma’s colleagues described him as a modest leader and creative thinker who, at a time of enormous turmoil in journalism, looked for ideas and expertise from many sources. He considered his two children — Olivia and Rohan — trusted advisers about media consumption, especially among young people. Mr. Ma had worked as a correspondent at Newsweek and as an editor at U.S. News

and World Report before he joined The Post Co. in 1997. His first role was as a vice president and executive producer at Digital Ink, The Post’s online subsidiary, which was renamed Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive. As executive editor of WPNI from 1998 to 2000, Mr. Ma oversaw operations of The Post’s website. Mr. Ma made one of his most significant business moves about 10 years ago, when he convinced other top Post executives that the

company should begin publishing a free tabloid-size newspaper for commuters before another publisher, Metro International, moved into the market. In 2003, The Post launched Express with Mr. Ma as publisher. He was involved not only in business decisions, editor Daniel Caccavaro said, but also in shaping the identity of the publication. Today, Express has a print run of more than 180,000 and brings several million dollars in profits. EMILY L ANGER (THE WASHINGTON POST )

So much of what makes Express the paper it is today came from our founder and publisher, Chris Ma. Chris persuaded the Post Company to green-light the paper in 2003 and steered the crucial early decisions that set Express on a successful course: our business model, our tone, even the design of our news boxes. Express wasn’t just a pet project for Chris. It was his sandbox, a place of innovation where he could sound out new ideas independent of the corporate culture around him. The atmosphere was that of a perpetual startup, and when Chris was ready to take a project live, there was no endless development hell. Whatever it was — special sections, new features, content partnerships, digital experiments — he’d just make it happen. “Publisher” is an exalted title. It doesn’t suggest someone who’d swing by the newsroom at 5 p.m., fresh from a full day as a corporate VP, to moonlight as our toughest copy editor. Nor does it describe a boss who would surprise the newsroom with ice cream sundaes, or distribute personalized gag gifts, as Chris did at our 2004 holiday party. Chris was a fair but firm arbiter of quality. He celebrated our hits and gently noted our misses. About a ramshackle pre-Christmas B.I.O. section in 2005, he e-mailed, “It looks like the page was typeset by someone who had a little too much eggnog.” In a Facebook tribute, Post Company Chairman Don Graham noted that Chris’ office “was always full of 20- and 30-year-olds wanting help on a project or advice on their careers.” Some of those 20-, 30- and now 40-somethings were us. Our mentor’s ready ear, kind voice and wise council will guide us — and this newspaper — for years to come.

SE’s Corner of Optimism MWi^_d]jed The Gateway to Anacostia is now a corner lot with the faded remains of a wall on the brink of collapse, imprisoned by a chain-link fence. But it is here, at this intersection of optimism — Good Hope Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue — in Southeast Washington where some hope a monument will soon stand. Over the summer, the city’s Department of Housing and Community Development surveyed nearly 200 people in Ward 8 to gauge their interest in a piece of public art in this scraggly place. Among the choices: murals, elaborately lit designs, landscapes. But the people wanted a totem pole. The behemoth sculptures, typically carved from trees by native peoples to illustrate ancient legends, watch over lands in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. One evening this month, the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities invited five local artists to share their ideas for a piece to symbolize the neighborhood’s past, present and future. The art-

1 Dead, 5 Injured After Dupont Circle Club Fight MWi^_d]jed D.C. police say one man is dead and five others are injured after a fight at a Dupont Circle nightclub. Officers were called to the 1300 block of Connecticut Avenue northwest around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police say a fight began inside the Heritage India restaurant and club and spilled out onto the sidewalk, where three men were shot and three more were stabbed. All six men were taken to area hospitals, where police say one shooting victim, 34-year-old Jhon-

te Coleman, of Suitland, Md., later died of his injuries. Police say the five other men are still being treated. Connecticut Avenue between Dupont Circle and N Street was closed for several hours while police investigated. (AP)

A wave of violence of violence revived memories of the 2008 Black Friday stampede that killed an employee and put a pregnant woman in the hospital at a Walmart on New York’s Long Island. (AP)

Nicole Lafleur pushes a shopping cart full of items at the Toys R Us at the Fair Lakes Shopping Center in Fairfax, Va., on Thursday. Doors opened at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

Shoppers Speed In Black Friday’s late-night debut brings rewards for retailers and consumers 8ki_d[ii More Americans hunted for bargains this weekend than ever before as retailers lured them online and into stores with big discounts and an earlier-than-usual start to the holiday shopping season. A record 226 million shoppers visited stores and websites during the four-day holiday weekend starting on Thanksgiving Day, up from 212 million last year, according to early estimates by the National Retail Federation released Sunday. Americans spent more, too: The average holiday shopper spent $398.62 over the weekend, up from $365.34 a year ago. Art and Anne Destrada from Port Chester, N.Y., were among the

shoppers. They started on Thanksgiving at a Walmart store, went to malls in New Jersey on Friday and got some deals at Macy’s on Saturday. They spent $2,000 on gifts.

'&'"''/

What it would cost to purchase every item mentioned in “The Twelve Days of Christmas” this year, an increase of 4.4 percent over 2010 and the first time that figure has topped $100,000. (AP)

“We’ve saved for Christmas and put away money all year,” says Anna Destrada, 49. “We stayed within our means so we can make a few splurges.” The results for the first holiday

shopping weekend show that retailers’ efforts to lure shoppers during the weak economy are working. Some, like Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and J.C. Penney, have made a stronger push online to better compete with the likes of Amazon.com. And such major chains as Macy’s, Target and Best Buy extended the traditional start to the shopping season by opening their doors at midnight on Thanksgiving evening. But t he question remains whether retailers will be able to hold shoppers’ attention throughout the remainder of the season. Americans are still driven by deep discounts, and they’re more conscious of their spending budgets. A fuller picture on spending will come Thursday, when major retailers report November sales figures. But for now, experts agree that retailers will likely have to continue

JeZWo

Ceh[ je 9ec[ On the eve of Cyber Monday, online retailers reported an even stronger start to the holiday shopping season than brickand-mortar stores did. Research company comScore reported Sunday that e-commerce spending jumped 26 percent on Black Friday, compared with a year ago. That 26 percent growth rate online compares with a 7 percent retail sales increase reported for Black Friday by ShopperTrak. ComScore reported $816 million in online sales for the day, up from $648 million. Still, at $11.4 billion, brick-and-mortar sales still dwarf the online total. (AP)

A woman turned herself in to police after allegedly pepper-spraying 20 other people at a Los Angelesarea Walmart on Thursday in what investigators said was an attempt to get at a crate of Xbox video game consoles. In Kinston, N.C., a security guard also pepper-sprayed customers seeking electronics before the start of a midnight sale. At a Walmart near Phoenix, Jerald Allen Newman, 54, shown, was bloodied while being subdued by a police officer on suspicion of shoplifting a video game. There was a shooting outside a store in San Leandro, Calif.; shots were fired at a mall in Fayetteville, N.C.; and a stabbing occurred outside a store in Sacramento, N.Y.

to discount to lure shoppers. “The big question is: How do you close the season?” says Hana Ben-Shabat, a partner at A. T. Kearney’s retail practice. “This is a very promotional-driven shopper.” Indeed, earlier hours, and earlier door-buster deals, on Black Friday seemed to be what drew many shoppers over the weekend. “Black Friday has evolved from an early morning shopping activity to a late-night entertainment,” says Ellen Davis of the National Retail Federation. “A lot of people stayed up until 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. to go shopping, and then went to bed.” The remainder of the day went well, too. Overall, Black Friday sales were $11.4 billion, up 7 percent, or nearly $1 billion from the same day last year, according to ShopperTrak. It was the largest amount ever spent on that day. which can be redeemed for merchandise or gift cards. But be wary of scams. Legitimate firms will not charge a signup fee or require you to pay for shipping the products.

Seasonal work, eBay and market research can boost income

Even with the unemployment rate stuck at 9 percent and many who are working looking for more hours or higher pay, it’s still possible to get temporary work. The usual suspects are retailers and the hospitality industry. Restaurants, catering companies, event planners and hotels also frequently add staff to handle holiday parties and events. John Challenger, CEO of the outsourcing firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, said the travel industry also often adds workers. Both UPS Inc. and FedEx are hiring thousands to handle the holiday shipping crunch. Positions may be found advertised on job boards such as Monster.com and Indeed.com — use the keyword “seasonal” in your search — or try the hourly job site Snagajob.com. And don’t overlook local newspaper ads or news websites, Craigslist.com or specific company sites. EILEEN AJ CONNELLY (AP)

Worried about whether you can afford the holidays this year? Time may be running out, but it’s still possible to take advantage of a number of options to boost your end-of-the-year income. There are ways to bring in extra cash in time to fund a few gifts, including temp jobs and getting paid for your opinion. Syracuse Fires Coach in Scandal Move comes after third person said he was molested by Fine

C[Wdm^_b[ $$$ The wife of Syracuse assistant coach Bernie Fine feared her husband molested, but felt powerless to come forward, according to ESPN. The network obtained a 2002 taped phone message in which Laurie Fine told Bobby Davis — one of Bernie Fine’s accusers — that Bernie Fine, left, “did the things he did” but mentally blocked them out. Laurie Fine and Davis have admitted to having an affair. (E XPRESS)

C[dÊi 9ebb[][ >eefi Syracuse University associate head basketball coach Bernie Fine was fired Sunday in the wake of an investigation of child molestation allegations against him. In statement released Sunday night, Kevin Quinn, the school’s senior vice president for public affairs, says Fine has been “terminated, effective immediately. The move came at the direction

of Chancellor Nancy Cantor. The 65-year-old Fine was in his 36th season at his alma mater. He had the longest active streak of consecutive seasons at one school among assistant coaches

in Division I. Fine’s firing comes in the wake of new revelations Sunday, including a third accuser. Two former Syracuse ball boys — Bobby Davis and his stepbroth-

er, Mike Lang — were the first to accuse Fine, who has called the allegations “patently false.” Zach Tomaselli, 23, of Lewiston, Maine, said Sunday that he told police that Fine molested him in 2002 in a Pittsburgh hotel room. He said Fine touched him “multiple” times in that one incident. Tomaselli, who faces sexual assault charges in Maine involving a 14-year-old boy, told The Associated Press that he signed an affidavit accusing Fine after a meeting with Syracuse police last week in Albany. Tomaselli’s father, meanwhile, maintains his son is lying. (AP)

na, who rarely breaks the fourth wall, it’s a strategic concession to public curiosity, although the song might have had more meaning if the singer herself had been one of its multiple co-writers. Most Rihanna albums have a theme, and “Talk” is no different. “Rated R,” the 2009 disc made after her assault by, and breakup with, Chris Brown, was a protracted revenge tale. Its conspicuously party-hearty follow-up, “Loud,” was an admission that “Rated R” had taken its joyless theme too far.

labored double and triple entendres, her weird sort of affectless raunch. When, on the jittery, overlong-at78-seconds “Birthday Cake” she finally dispenses with the pleasantries with one devastatingly direct line (we can’t repeat it in a family newspaper, but it’s easily the bluntest thing we’ve ever heard from a mainstream pop singer), she says it with all the erotic charge of someone learning how to program her DVR. The rest of the time Rihanna sounds better, more present, than she ever has. She even escapes unscathed from the sinkhole that is a Jay-Z guest feature; her mentor takes his usual victory lap on the title track with a verse that seems recycled from “Crazy in Love.” For Rihanna, it’s a pointed reminder of her chart-topping rival; for everybody else, it’s a gratuitous attention-suck. When it comes to breaking the fourth wall, Rihanna learned from the best. A L L I S O N

Local rockers More Humans make short songs and have cut a short record, but both are epic. “Demon Station,” the D.C. band’s new 10-inch EP on local label Cricket Cemetery, clocks in at a mere 14 minutes, but the disc’s five songs contain more twists and turns than an average full-length. Even the 95-second “You’re a Liar” — which begins with an arpeggio, builds to a crescendo and culminates in a 8o 9^h_ijef^[h luxurious harmony Fehj[h of the song’s titular words — feels more like an event than a mid-EP interlude. The trio’s close harmony singing recalls that of the Byrds or Crosby, Stills and Nash, but More Humans’ primary musical cues come from the New Wave ’80s and indie ’90s: Wiry guitar lines wrestle against muscular drumming to create a tension that’s as precise as it is powerful. It’s the sort of cross-generational borrowing we’ve come to expect in modern pop, but More Humans do it way better than most. More Humans (Morehumans.net) perform with Bitter American, Murder, StateViolence and Denman at Cricket Cemetery’s label showcase Dec. 11 at Galaxy Hut.

Less Makes More

If Lady Gaga is an android sent from the future, and Beyonce is a Sherman tank of bottomless ambition and great teeth, and Britney Spears is a human vacancy sign, what is Rihanna? She could be anyone. She’s a shape-shifter to be sure, a blur of hit singles and brightly colored weaves. But what else? There isn’t another entertainer in the public eye who seems so remote, so indifferent to its gaze. “Take a peek at the girl I hide,” she sings on “Roc Me Out,” one of the lesser tracks on her formidable new album, “Talk That Talk.” “I’ll let you in on a dirty secret/I just wanna be loved.” For Rihan-

The impeccably assembled, 100 percent flyweight “Talk That Talk” positions her as an everygirl in search of romance, sex and a good party. Rihanna’s top-notch producers, including usual suspects such as The-Dream and StarGate, have trawled the clubs for the latest in Euro and electro-pop, homogenized only as necessary. And “Talk” is thick with Rihanna’s usual, overly

The holiday season seems like the appropriate time to give thanks for the greatest gift that the celebrity world has given us this year: Ryan Gosling. He obviously was a celebrity long before 2011, but 2011 was the year that Ryan Gosling the Phenomenon truly came into being. To those who spend little time navigating entertainment blogs, Gosling, 31, is an actor who has earned an Academy Award nomination and appeared in three wildly different films in recent months: “Drive,” “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and “The Ides of March.” But to those who track the online fervor that surrounds the Canadian star and unofficially designated “dreamboat of choice” to women younger than 40, he is so much more. Ryan Gosling is the celebrity most capable of generating a meme. He not only inspires Tumblr blogs — including the oft-cited “[Expletive] Yeah! Ryan Gosling,” where the “Hey girl” catchphrase

Ryan Gosling is definitely cuter than his dog, George, with whom he shared the stage during a July appearance on NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.”

Go, Team Ryan! Website Buzzfeed organized a recent protest outside People’s New York headquarters after Bradley Cooper (“Limitless”) was selected as the magazine’s sexiest man of the year instead of Ryan Gosling. The handful of cheekily irate individuals carried signs while chanting “Bradley Cooper is just fine, but Ryan Gosling is divine.” J.C.

(See “Feminist Ryan Gosling,” which features photos of Gosling accompanied by captions like, “Hey girl. Gender is a social construct but everyone likes to cuddle.”) Ryan Gosling is an urban superhero, the kind of guy who breaks up a street fight in New York, gets captured on YouTube doing so and is hailed for essentially being a hipster version of Batman. is because Ryan Gosling inspires deep thought. Ryan Gosling represents the completely unrealistic ideal that women want all men to live up to: elusive; edgy; potentially dangerous but also kind to dogs; considerate enough to take his mother and sister to the Oscars; and willing to unashamedly fall in love in movies based on lousy Nicholas Sparks romance novels (“The Notebook”); and star in movies about guys who form serious relationships with blow-up dolls (“Lars and the Real Girl”). The real Ryan Gosling may not be any of these things, but whether he is or isn’t is irrelevant. Ryan Gosling is a precious gift, one that we hope keeps on giving during what’s left of 2011 and for years to come. JENN CHANEY (THE WASH-

So much has been written about Orson Welles the boy genius and his monumental “Citizen Kane,” but not everyone was a fan. William Randolph Hearst, the newspaper tycoon who was the inspiration for Welles’ Charles Foster Kane, tried to kill the movie, forbidding his papers from even mentioning it. Why was Hearst so angry? A n answer can be found in “The Welles Battle Over Citizen Kane,” a 1996 documentary included as an extra on the recently released 70th-anniversary-edition Blu-ray of “Citizen Kane.” According to the doc, Hearst was infuriated by the unflattering portrait of Kane’s second wife, a character based on the publisher’s longtime mistress Marion Davies. “Rosebud,” the nickname for Kane’s boyhood sled and the Freudian key that ultimately unlocks his psyche, was supposedly Hearst’s pet name for Davies’ genitals. No wonder the guy flipped out.
