The festival’s chairwoman said the organs were added to bring an educational element to the event. (AP)

The crash left perhaps thousands of butter tubs strewn on the highway, many broken open and coating the roadway. Today is the 11th anniversary of Express’ debut. We’re marking the occasion by unveiling a new look. The overall goal of this, our second redesign, is to make the paper more inviting and engaging. Our challenge to ourselves: Be more interesting than your smartphone. The changes include: A shift away from the kind of straight headline news that’s so readily available elsewhere, and toward stories that surprise and add context. An emphasis on local news and lifestyles coverage, with more original writing and new features such as Page Three, where we’ll take a lighter look at local developments. More white space and new typefaces to make the paper brighter and easier to read. We hope you’ll take a little time to explore our new look, then let us know what you think. Two rallies draw thousands to D.C. WASHINGTON Demonstrations drew thousands of people from around the country to the White House and the streets of downtown D.C. on Saturday afternoon in peaceful protests. In one, participants called for an end to the continued violence between Israel and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, advocates converged in the District to urge President Barack Obama to take administrative action on issues involving undocumented immigrants. Both groups ended up at the White House in the afternoon, seeking a stage to voice their concerns. The larger group, supporting the Palestinians, arrived by bus from big cities and many others drove hundreds of miles to participate, organizers said.

“Free, free Palestine, killing children is a crime,” the crowd chanted. Several people held Palestinian flags, boxes representing coffins or posters with graphic images of the wounded. As the protest quieted down, red graffiti that read “Free Gaza” was discovered on a side wall of the Washington Post building. At the same time, hundreds gathered — first at the Mall, and then at Freedom Plaza and at the White House — to push for immigration-policy reform. Protesters chanted in English and Spanish, “Stop deportation,” “Sin papeles, sin miedo” (no papers, no fear) and a familiar chant of Obama’s campaign slogan “Si se puede” (yes we can). local Utilities are passing on the costs of low-flow faucets and aging pipes REGION Federally mandated low-flow toilets, shower heads and faucets are taking a financial toll on water utilities, leaving customers to make up the shortfall with higher rates and new fees that have left many paying more for less. Utility officials say they understand that charging more for water because demand has dropped violates the basic premise of

Economics 101. But utilities that charge by the number of gallons used are beginning to feel the pinch of 20 years of environmentally friendly appliances, as older bathrooms and kitchens have been remodeled, utility experts say. Federal laws aimed at conserving water limit toilets that once needed up to seven gallons per flush to 1.6 gallons. Shower heads that spewed up to eight gallons per minute are being replaced with sprays of about 2.5 gallons. A spokesman for the U.N. Stanford team says it’s making a better battery

Toledo goes without tap water for a second day

Gay-rights activists are distressed over the results of the first large-scale federal survey measuring sexual orientation in the United States, in which it reported in July that less than 3 percent of the population identifies as gay, lesbian or bisexual. They contend it is an undercount and are particularly upset because they worked for years to get sexual orientation added to the National Health Interview Survey, the government’s premier measure of Americans’ health statuses and behaviors. The activists worry that the results will reduce the urgency of their causes and give fodder to their political foes. (THE WASHINGTON POST)

A group of Stanford researchers including former Energy Secretary Steven Chu says it’s building a new and improved pure lithium battery using nanotechnology that could triple cellphone battery life and give electric cars a driving range of 300 miles on a single charge, according to USA Today. Yi Cui, a professor at Stanford working on the project, said it will take three to five years to bring the new battery to the market, according to the newspaper. In a university statement, Chu, a former Nobel Prize winner, said the new battery could lead to “an electric vehicle with a 300-mile range that cost $25,000.” (EXPRESS)

On Sunday, Toledo Mayor D. Michael Collins instructed the 400,000 people in the region to avoid drinking tap water for a second day, as more tests were needed to ensure water was safe to consume. The National Guard had produced 33,000 gallons of drinkable water by Sunday morning, and an additional 15,000 gallons had been delivered in collapsible containers. (AP)

A five-point guide to the Africa summit

THE IMPACT: The Secret Service has issued a detailed list of road closures related to the summit. It could lead to gridlock, particularly around the White House, Foggy Bottom and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Southwest. Many will be brief, others staggered, but officials warn that the impact could be rough for people trying to navigate the city.

This week’s U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit is an unprecedented gathering of 51 African heads of state and government and their delegations. JULIET EILPERIN 1 It’s historic The summit will mark the first time an American president will convene Africa’s leaders at one conference. Their goal? Reframing Africa’s image to one ripe with economic promise. 2 It won’t be easy Such a mission faces big hurdles — the distraction of conflicts elsewhere, the Ebola crisis and U.S. budget constraints. The White House has played down expectations, saying the event won’t have the sort of flashy promises Chinese leaders have announced at African summits. 3 Still, Obama’s hopeful The meeting will focus on the economic potential Africa offers. President Barack Obama noted Friday that the U.S. no longer gives African countries aid just to stave off malnutrition and the spread of HIV. “We think we can create U.S. jobs and send U.S. exports to Africa,” he said. 4 Eyes will be on him As the son of a Kenyan father, Obama faced high expectations and disappointed many Africans after a first term focused on the U.S. economy and health care. This summit gives him a chance to change his legacy. 5 But no personal talks Obama has opted for large group discussions rather than one-on-one meetings to avoid the risk of offending some of America’s “allied partners” by not providing private audiences with the president.

Picture hoopla like this that greeted Mali President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita on Sunday. Now multiply by 51.

How do you find 51 beds of state? U.S.-Africa summit has D.C. awash in VIPs, all in need of presidential suites THE DISTRICT August can be a lazy, laid-back month for any Washingtonians left in town and for hotels bereft of conventions and Congress. Not this week. Today, delegations from 51 African nations begin a threeday U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, a high-level event hosted by President Barack Obama that has many downtown hotels jammed and some African embassies detailing their guest rooms. Locals, meanwhile, are rearranging commutes to cope with rolling street closures and motorcade gridlock. About 5,400 people are credentialed to participate, primarily African delegates, government officials and business leaders, plus more than 1,200 journalists, says Will Stevens, a spokesman for the State Department Bureau

Official: “No chance” of finding 159 landslide victims in Nepal

of African Affairs. The summit’s size and security implications are being compared to that of the 2010 Nuclear Security Summit, which brought more than 40 delegations. For Peter Selfridge, who took over as chief of protocol just two months ago, and his staff of 80, it’s “trial by fire.” His office is in charge of making sure the foreign heads of the delegations and those traveling with them feel comfortable and welcomed, and to facilitate their movements. “We have the same protocol whether it’s one leader or 51 delegations,” he says. “We strive to throw out the red carpet both literally and figuratively from their arrival point at the airport to the end of the summit. Just multiply everything by 50.” So where’s everyone going to stay?

Blair House, the president’s official guest house for visiting heads of state, has just reopened for business after being closed for a year. But the historic guest house will not be used for the summit, even though it does have 14 perfectly appointed guest rooms. “It’s the Protocol Office’s crown jewel,” Selfridge

“A motorcade is part of the Washington experience. Fifty motorcades? That might be really exciting.” KATE GIBBS, spokeswoman for Destination DC, the city’s official visitor and tourism bureau

Bomb hidden in trash kills three in Somali capital

THE WORST OF IT: The big-impact days will be Tuesday around the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Wednesday around the State Department. On those days, nearby roads and sidewalks will be closed and workers, residents and hotel guests will have to submit to searches and security checks before being allowed to pass. THE SECURITY: Thousands of police will deploy with the usual array of street barricades, airportstyle searches, bag checks and motorcades. They will be akin to security measures during an inauguration. (THE WASHINGTON POST)

says. “How would we pick one or two out of 51 delegations to stay there?” Delegations made their own lodging arrangements. A handful are bunking at their local embassies, but the majority have booked in the city’s upscale hotels. For security reasons, hotels can’t confirm specifics of who is staying where. However, it’s safe to say that the city’s impressive stock of Presidential Suites (plus the even posher Royal Suites) have been fluffed up for a possible influx of presidents, prime ministers and one scheduled royal: King Mswati III of Swaziland. Amenities from mahogany dining tables for 10, 500-threadcount sheets, 24-hour butler service and marble bathrooms with spa showers awaited those delegations who booked early and wanted something more than the standard double with coffee. nation+world Why isn’t there a treatment by now? The Ebola virus is hard to work with. It doesn’t grow well in petri dishes, and experiments can only be done in the relatively few labs with the highest security measures. And while Ebola is lethal, it’s rare. Outbreaks are unpredictable, giving doctors few chances to test new treatments. While the current epidemic is the largest recorded, the number of people sickened by Ebola is small compared to the number killed by other diseases such as malaria or dengue. (AP)

An Obama administration program secretly dispatched young Latin Americans to Cuba using the cover of health and civic programs to provoke political change, a clandestine operation that put them in danger, an Associated Press investigation found. (AP) The operation Beginning as early as October 2009, a project overseen by the U.S. Agency for International Development sent Venezuelan, Costa Rican and Peruvian young people to Cuba — for pay as low as $5.41 an hour — in hopes of ginning up rebellion. The travelers worked undercover, often posing as tourists, and scouted for people they could turn into political activists.

The concern Their efforts were fraught with incompetence and risk: One worker said he got a 30-minute seminar on how to evade Cuban intelligence, and there appeared to be no safety net for the workers if they were caught.

The result Whether any of the political objectives were ever realized is unclear. Some Cuban contacts have said they were astonished to discover that their foreign friends were acting on behalf of the U.S. government.

No reason to fear Ebola in America Public health officials say Atlanta hospital is one of the safest for treatment ATLANTA The Ebola virus has killed more than 700 people in Africa and could have catastrophic consequences if allowed to spread, world health officials say. So why wou ld a nyone allow infected A mer ic a ns to come to Atlanta? The answer, experts say, is Brantly because Emory University Hospital is one of the safest places in the world to treat someone with Ebola. There’s virtually no chance the virus can spread from the hospital’s super-secure isolation unit. to be brought to the United States from Africa. He arrived Saturday at Emory, one of the nation’s best hospitals. Fellow aid worker Nancy Writebol is expected to arrive Tuesday. The two had been treating Ebola patients at a missionary hospital in Liberia. Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told NBC on Sunday that Brantly’s condition seems to have improved and that it was encouraging to see him walk out of the ambulance unassisted when he arrived at the hospital. Frieden said he understands the public’s concerns about Ebola and that the public health role is to ensure that the infection is not spread. “Ebola is very deadly. And it’s normal to be scared of deadly diseases,” he said. Few of those nearest the

way they could.” Emory’s infectious diseases’ unit was created 12 years ago to handle doctors who get sick at the CDC. It is one of about four in the country equipped with everything necessary to test, treat and contain people exposed to very dangerous viruses. In 2005, it handled patients with SARS, which unlike Ebola can spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes. In fact, the nature of Ebola — which is spread by close contact with bodily fluids and blood — means that any modern hospital using standard, rigorous, infection-control measures should be able to handle it. Still, Emory won’t be taking any chances. Inside the unit, patients are sealed off from anyone who doesn’t wear protective gear. “Negative air pressure” means air flows in, but can’t escape until filters scrub any germs from patients. And all gear is safely disposed of or decontaminated. “Nothing comes out of this unit until it is noninfectious,” said Dr. Bruce Ribner, who will be treating the patients. “The bottom line is: We have an inordinate amount of safety associated with the care of this patient. And we do not believe that any health care worker, any other patient or any visitor to our facility is in any way at risk of acquiring this infection.” RAY HENRY AND MIKE STOBBE (AP)

Politics, in a whole new light

Holograms brought back Tupac. Next? You could see them on the campaign trail. TECHNOLOGY Resurrect Tupac for a live performance? Been there. Help elect a prime minister in the world’s second-most populous country? Done that. Next stop? Washington. Holographic technology is coming to the nation’s capital. The hope is to do for political campaigns, what it’s done for the entertainment industry and elected officials overseas: Allow people to project moving, lifelike, interactive copies of themselves in different places without actually being there. Hologram USA, a company specializing in the technology, recently hired the Northern Virginia-based U.S. Government Relations International. The firm will try to convince wouldbe clients that Hologram USA’s three-dimensional images, which can be broadcast live across the country, are vital communications tools that have become more necessity than novelty. “A general or a politician or a head of corporate can project

BUDGETING

$6M

The estimated cost, per month, of using holograms in a robust national effort, said Alki David of Hologram USA. That’s beyond the budgets of most campaigns and is a sizable investment even for White House hopefuls. But David argues that weighed against the cost of barnstorming the country, it could eventually look like a bargain. (TWP)

themselves physically in a lifesize projection that is completely believable at a matter of a few feet,” said Alki David, who heads up Hologram USA. That’s what Narendra Modi did in his winning campaign for prime minster of India this year. Hologram USA helped Modi reach out to the country’s voters by enabling him to appear live

in holographic form at political rallies. Hologram USA wants to eventually do the same thing for Rand Paul or Hillary Rodham Clinton — David says he’s a fan of both — or anyone else who runs for office and is looking to improve their voter communication efforts. It works like this: Invisible foil is placed at an angle across a stage, and a moving image of someone — say, a candidate delivering a live speech — is projected onto it. With the right lighting, the result is a 3-D projection that moves, talks, even dances like a real human being. Jeffrey Taylor, a managing partner at U.S. Government Relations International and former congressional aide, envisions 2016 conventions where holograms of Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy address the crowd. Or presidential candidates — who simply can’t appear physically in every city — interacting with voters on the campaign trail. Take Clinton, for example. She

could appear remotely, fielding questions in a kind of virtual town hall meeting, Taylor suggested. “You would actually have an interactive, three-dimensional image and a monitor in front of her when the lady at a coffee klatch says, ‘What are your views on energy?’ ” Taylor said. He added: “The only thing you can’t do is shake her hand.” But that’s a challenge advocates of the technology will have to overcome, experts say. Retail politics is a big part of campaigning. Voters want to see candidates in person. Technology, no matter how advanced, is never going to offer a perfect replacement. To David, the technology’s best selling point is the awe it inspires when people experience it for the first time. “I think that as much as we can write about it and evangelize it and imagine it and see it online, you don’t get the impact of what it’s really like until you see it,” he said. SEAN SULLIVAN (THE WASHINGTON POST)

Syrian rebels kill 10 Lebanese troops in border town battle

Russia’s shrinking space for freedom of expression was constricted further Friday, as rules went into effect giving Russian authorities oversight over the country’s most-read online personalities. MICHAEL BIRNBAUM (THE WASHINGTON POST)

The rules The “blogger law” requires any person whose online presence draws more than 3,000 daily readers to register with Russia. It holds bloggers liable for any misinformation they publish, and users are forbidden from using obscenities. Fines on individuals range from $280 to $1,400. For organizations, the fines can be up to $14,000 per violation.

The reaction The new rules, bloggers say, will encourage online selfcensorship. Opposition blogger Oleg Kozyrev said he expected that many of his colleagues would resort to a Soviet-era habit of making their points elliptically to avoid outright confrontation with authorities.

The concern The end effect is to put large swaths of Russia’s prominent online personalities in theoretical violation of the law at all times, risking fines and other harassment whenever authorities decide to crack down, critics say.

Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo had a teamhigh 10 sacks last season.

Linebackers let loose

To fix the Redskins’ defense, Gruden and Haslett put an emphasis on the pass rush REDSKINS Unleashed. That’s how many of the Redskins’ defensive players have described themselves and defensive coordinator Jim Haslett since Jay Gruden took over as coach in January. The players started using that word after hearing what Haslett had planned for the defense as the Gruden Era kicked off. They continued using it during the offseason practices, where they got a taste of things to come. And they say “unleashed” remains an accurate description based on what they have taken away from training camp. “We have a defense this year that’s more tailored to our strengths, and that’s going to make us more effective,” nose

tackle Barry Cofield said. Added outside linebacker Brian Orakpo: “We’ve got more freedom now. We’re going to be more aggressive. We’re going to dictate. We like where we’re headed.” In four years under Mike Shanahan, Haslett drew the ire of Redskins fans because of his unit’s ineffective pass rush and inability to create turnovers and game-changing plays. But when Gruden pored over hours of game film, studying the defense and Haslett’s coaching, he saw two things: Washington’s defense had glaring talent deficiencies in key areas, and Haslett’s strategy wasn’t bad. But the approach in some areas needed to change.

Practicing with Patriots Practices at Redskins training camp will have a different look and feel to them over the course of the next three days as Washington’s players and coaches welcome the New England Patriots to town for three joint sessions. Those joint practices will precede Thursday’s preseason opener at FedEx Field against New England. (THE WASHINGTON POST)

“There was a lot,” Gruden said last week when recounting the problems he identified. “We need to be a better tackling team. I think that’s the No. 1 thing we had to address. We’re trying to get more speed out there. Obviously, we addressed that with the

linebacker position. And then from there, I think rushing the quarterback, getting after the quarterback, was a necessity for us to let Orakpo and [Ryan] Kerrigan have more freedom as far as the rushes are concerned.” Haslett had no problem with Gruden’s conclusions. So Gruden and Haslett reached an agreement on a defensive philosophy, starting with getting their passrushers into the backfield. “Your two best players on your defense are supposed to be your outside linebackers,” Haslett explained Friday. “And that’s why we drafted another one. And they’re supposed to get to the quarterback, so, let them do what they do best. That’s rush.”

Back pain forces Woods to withdraw

Paul George is taken off the court after he was injured during Friday’s USA Basketball scrimmage in Las Vegas.

George’s injury leaves Pacers, U.S. team reeling BASKETBALL Paul George’s broken right leg has left two teams reeling. The U.S. men’s national team, too emotional to finish the exhibition game it was playing when George suffered the gruesome injury Friday night, had to shift its focus away from the World Cup of Basketball to thinking about an injured teammate. The Indiana Pacers, a round short of the NBA Finals the past two years, were left pondering a season without their best player. “This is a tough blow for not only USA Basketball, but for the Indiana Pacers,” USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said.

6

Both were thinking only of George, who remained at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas after surgery to repair an open tibiafibula fracture. He was expected to remain hospitalized for about three days and the Pacers hope he can return to Indianapolis next week, though it will be months, perhaps a year, before he can return to the court. “Any discussion regarding the future of our team would be inappropriate at this time,” Pacers President Larry Bird said in a statement. “Our focus is solely on Paul and doing whatever we can to help.” George’s loss comes on the

heels of Lance Stephenson’s departure to Charlotte, N.C., in free agency, leaving Indiana without its two most versatile players. The Pacers had the Eastern Conference’s best record last season at 56-26 and could have been the favorite to reach the NBA Finals after LeBron James’ departure from Miami if they could have brought their core back. Now, they could struggle just to stay in the playoff picture in the toughened-up East. “There is no question about the impact on our team but our goal is to be as strong-willed and determined as Paul will be in coming back,” Bird said. BRIAN MAHONEY (AP)

Tiger Woods suffered more back pain Sunday and withdrew after eight holes at the Bridgestone Invitational, struggling to even take off his golf shoes before being driven away to an uncertain future. In his third tournament since returning from back surgery, Woods injured himself playing a shot from the lip of a bunker on the par-5 second hole. “I just jarred it, and it’s been spasming ever since,” Woods told a PGA Tour official before leaving. At his car, Woods could barely switch out of his golf shoes. His caddie, Joe La Cava, drove him away. “It’s just the whole lower back,” Woods said. “I don’t know what happened.” DOUG FERGUSON (AP)

NATS 4, PHILLIES 0

Strasburg strikes out 10 Stephen Strasburg, above, pitched three-hit ball for seven innings and the NL East-leading Nationals split the four-game series after dropping the first two to the last-place Phillies. It’s been a while: Strasburg (8-9) got his first win since July 1, a stretch of seven games. He walked one and didn’t permit a runner past second base. Nats’ pitching dominates again: The Phillies were shut out for the second straight day and haven’t scored in 21 innings. Span stays hot: Nationals leadoff hitter Denard Span had two hits, two steals, an RBI and scored a run in Sunday’s win. In the four-game series against the Phillies, Span went 7-for-15 with three runs and four RBIs. He entered Sunday hitting an NL-best .424 since the All-Star break (minimum 50 at-bats). From the manager: “Stephen was the guy we went to the first day of the season, he’s the guy we went to after the [All-Star] break, and he’s proven why he’s a really good pitcher,” Nats manager Matt Williams said, reinforcing that Strasburg’s still the ace on the pitching staff. On deck: Washington welcomes Baltimore today in a makeup of their July 8 rainout. Tanner Roark (11-6, 2.74 ERA) will make his first career start against the Orioles. (AP/EXPRESS)

MUST-SEE THIS WEEK

Naked is the new black in reality TV TELEVISION A contestant on a new VH1 dating show didn’t beckon a woman to walk in front of him out of politeness. He wanted to check her out from behind and didn’t need to use his imagination. “Dating Naked” is the latest example of reality television’s newest trend: Nudity is hot, no longer confined to late-night premium cable. Leading the way is Discovery’s “Naked and Afraid,” on which a man and woman who don’t know each other fend for themselves in the wilderness for three weeks without a stitch between them. That program’s success begat VH1’s “Dating Naked” and TLC’s real estate show “Buying Naked,” with more in the planning stages. In a world of endless choices, titillation lures. So does a catchy title, and the word “naked” jumps off the program guide. Brent

Montgomery, who produces the nonfiction hit “Pawn Stars,” which airs on the History channel, said many early fans were drawn in by that title even though the show had nothing to do with the image left in your head. Standards are the same at each show: male and female genitalia are blurred out, along with female breasts. Backsides are fair game. A graphic artist takes about a week to cleanse each episode of “Naked and Afraid.” A strategically placed flowerpot or sofa obscures the nude home shoppers in “Buying Naked.” Beyond the logistics, a show needs more going for it to keep viewers once the novelty of watching naked bodies with blurred body parts wears off. “The secret sauce of our show is not the fact that they’re naked,” said Denise Contis, West Coast head of production and development at Discovery. “I think it’s the storytelling, the cast and a survival experience that’s authentic.” Romance is the point of

‘Bachelor in Paradise’

Buying in to the buff Here’s a rundown of how the nude craze has paid off for reality networks. (EXPRESS) ‘Dating Naked’ The series premiere last month earned more than double VH1’s usual audience, and helped the name of a spurned dater trend on Twitter. ‘Naked and Afraid’ The show’s June 2013 debut drew in more than 4 million viewers, making it Discovery’s most-watched series premiere ever. ‘Buying Naked’ The show’s June premiere ratings aren’t available, but it certainly generated buzz for Pasco County, Fla., the “Nudist Capital of America.”

“Dating Naked.” Susan Levison, head of programming at VH1, gave the series a green light her first day on the job last September and hurried to beat competitors to the air. Fox has its own naked dating show in the works but recently put it on hold. “The idea of using nudity as a metaphor for allowing yourself to be truly exposed and truly yourself in the search for love felt really fresh and exciting,” Levison said. That explains why more “naked” pitches are being heard in network boardrooms. “You’ll probably see four or five work and a dozen that don’t work,” Montgomery said.

This scripted series follows a real-life comedy-folk duo (Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci) as they navigate blind dates and obnoxious exes, alongside goofy music videos and more than enough dirty jokes.

Good old-fashioned vindication

In a new interview with The Guardian, Christina Hendricks revealed her agency dropped her as a client after she took the role of Joan on “Mad Men.” “They said, ‘It’s a period piece, it’s never going to go anywhere,’ ” Hendricks told the newspaper. The actress has since earned five Emmy nominations for her role in the drama, which begins the second half of its seventh and final season next year. MARC SILVER | BROADCAST MUSE

Steal this ride: ‘Bait Car’ doesn’t let thieves off easy You see a car. The motor’s running. The key’s in the ignition. So the car is saying, “Take me for a ride!” Yeah, technically — er, I mean LEGALLY — it would be against the law. But when I see a dime on the street, I pick it up. Sure, it belongs to someone else, but it’s ON THE STREET! Tell that to the judge. “Bait Car” is a TruTV series I’d never heard of until the New York Times’ “Ethicist” column wrote about it this summer, deeming bait cars, either in real life or on reality TV, “questionable” and “problematic.” (Note: Many bait car thieves turn out to have criminal records.) “Bait Car” aired its fifth

season in 2012 and is no longer in production. But the brilliance that is “Bait Car” lives on in reruns and in snippets on YouTube and trutv.com. In one, three women, unknown to each other, bond when they unite to steal a Cadillac Escalade. One complains that the vehicle is dirty. “Maybe she shouldn’t be stealing cars in her Sunday best,” comments the smug narrator. In other clips, you can see a thief kick his way out of the rear window and run really fast (but not fast enough), and a thief who tells the cops: “Hey, I don’t know whose car it is.” Points for honesty. But as they say in Yiddish, “gornisht helfen” — it won’t help. Read Marc’s previous columns at washingtonpost.com/muse

The reboot will likely replace “Ghostbusters 3,” which was to be directed by Ivan Reitman before he dropped out in March. (EXPRESS) FILM

Sources close to Beyonce and Jay Z are worried that the couple’s reportedly deteriorating marriage could cut their $100 million On the Run Tour short before its scheduled Paris finale next month. The New York Post reported that the tour organizers and four lawyers attended an emergency meeting on Thursday to put out a joint statement on the situation, but Beyonce and Jay Z couldn’t agree on what it would say. The couple’s lawyers have joined them on the road in hopes that the two can work things out before HBO’s special on the tour, which is set to air in September. (EXPRESS)
