n Thursday February 20, 2025 at 7pm at the Poestenkill Fire Department Hall well over 100 people came out to attend a presentation titled the “EMS in Crisis in Rensselaer County.” The speaker was Dr. Warren Hayashi, MD, NRP, CCEMTP, Medical Director, Renssealer County Bureau of Public Safety.
This meeting was open to the public and fire and EMS agencies across the county were invited and encouraged to attend. In addition to many members of the community, also in attendance was representation from all the Emergency Response Agencies across Renssealer County.

Most who share the concern about the ability of EMS agencies to meet the emergency medical needs of residents in Rensselaer County.
Dr. Hayashi opened the presentation with disclosures that clarified that this presentation consisted of the opinions of himself alone and he is not speaking on behalf or representing the position of any other entity. He shared many statistics throughout the presentation that painted a picture of the challenges that face the EMS agencies throughout the county. Currently there are 14 established ambulance districts in Renssealer County. Additionally, three municipalities in the county rely in Mohawk Ambulance for EMS coverage. In 2024 there were 12,809 EMS calls outside the City of Troy. In one out of every 10 medical emergencies an ambulance arrives at high priority calls after 24 minutes. While a few towns do have a pretty reliable system, notes Hayashi, for most this is not the case. “We have a reliability problem in our Rensselaer county EMS system, says Hayashi and response times do matter.” The more rural the area the more likely response times will be over 20 minutes and in many parts of the county they are over 30 minutes, according to the statistics. In the current situation as it is in the county the response time problem will be ▶

The presentation provides information on the contributing factors to the EMS crisis in the county. These include but may not be limited to the lack of paramedic resources, poor interagency collaboration, delayed or equivalently available mutual aid. Some of the resources throughout the county are not the same level of mutual aid such as BLS (Basic Life Support) to ALS (Advanced Life Support.) There is little to no EMS system accountability or oversight in the county and there is a slow adoption of new technology in EMS practices in the county. He notes that because of these factors, most of the EMS agencies in the county are just trying to get by and do the best they can. During his research, Hayashi has consulted with many EMS agencies across the county to gather information, ideas and strategies that contributed to his presentation.
The presentation also provided some possible scenarios for improvement of the EMS system in Renssealer County. These include; shared and/or consolidated service models, the development of a county oversight or central agency and the use of improved technology for more efficiency and cost effectiveness. In addition, discussion on the current EMS crisis and some possible solutions to this, there was discussion on the barriers that exist to moving forward with a next step. Barriers included financial constraints as well as getting the town and county officials aware and on board with moving forward to identify and adopt solutions and acting. The larger the system and the resource pool the greater the flexibility he adds.
Hayashi has spent about a year and a half working with a group to develop about 40 different plans based on analysis of the data and associated costs that could be possibilities for solutions for each EMS agency in the county. Further, he put together information in a binder specific to each EMS agency
for their review and further consideration.
To date he has also approached several town officials and elected leaders to start discussions towards a solution to the EMS crisis in the county. We are just starting the dialogue and this is a good first step, he notes. We need to continue the momentum, gather information, continue to engage EMS agencies, elected officials and the public, he notes. The presentation was followed by an energetic and engaged question and answer session which yielded many ideas for future consideration. I am willing to listen and learn from everyone, he says, welcoming any and all ideas towards a solution. “This is meant to be a starting point of a discussion,” says Hayashi.

◀ Firemen Honored at City Council
Mechanicville, February 12
Mayor Mike Butler honored member of the Mechanicville Fire Department for their life saving actions on the Hudson River on the night of January 10th. At 11:50 PM the Mechanicville Police were dispatched to the Hemstreet Park Bridge in response to a report of an individual in crisis.
Upon arrival they discovered the individual was seated on the edge of the bridge and then despite the efforts of the officers the individual jumped into the Hudson River.
Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Dunn and the team of volunteer firefighters from the Mechanicville Fire Department (MFD) were on standby and, responded by launching their rescue boat and reaching the individual . Through their swift and coordinated efforts, Deputy Fire Chief Dunn, Firefighters Timothy Cuilla, Charlie Wheeler, Adam Wertman, Kyle Ropeter, and TJ Mellon successfully located and rescued the individual from the icy waters of the Hudson River, ultimately saving their life.
In the Proclamation Butler praised the firemen for the “highest standards of volunteerism, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to public safety, putting the lives of others before their own and demonstrating exceptional courage in a time of crisis; these heroic efforts were made by volunteer firefighters, individuals who dedicate their time, energy, and expertise to protecting and serving our community without monetary compensation.”
Butler concluded. “Their courage, skill, and swift response saved a life, and they embody the true spirit of volunteerism and service.”
Section 8 Funding
by John Enzien, Director of the Mechanicville Housing Authority
The problem of shrinking, limited funds in the Section 8 Program has been a national issue for quite some time now.
In fact, prior to the new year HUD estimated that one-third , or 1100, of all Housing Authorities in the nation are experiencing budget shortfalls in the Section 8 Program.
This problem has been caused by rising costs of street rents/inflation which existing budgets or the limited funding have not been able to keep pace with.
During the final quarter of last year HUD issued a directive to the Mechanicville Housing Authority to stop issuing new Vouchers to applicants because presently there were no more HUD held reserves for the Mechanicville Housing Authority to offset the problem.
Additionally, HUD recommends that local housing authorities stop accepting applications when insufficient funds are available to assist all applicants on the waiting list over a reasonable period of time which generally can mean more than two years.
The only save clause is for families who were issued a Voucher previous to the above HUD directive who were grandfathered in and allowed to continue seeking an apartment.

Mechanicville Resident Tim Young Announces Candidacy for Commissioner of Public Works
Mechanicville, February 19th
With the recent announcement by current Comm. of Public Works
Patrick Sgambati that he will not be seeking a second term in the November election, local resident Tim Young has announced he will seek the position on the Mechanicville City Council.
“I have a great deal of respect for the job Patrick has done and I will strive to bring the same enthusiasm and commitment that Patrick has brought,” Tim said.
A lifelong Mechanicville resident, Tim is no stranger to public service, having worked as the Finance Clerk for Commissioner of Finance Donna Tuttle. He also served as the Administrative Leader for the City’s Community Development Agency. In that position, Tim played a pivotal role in seeking and administering millions of dollars in Community Development Block Grants that included housing rehabilitation, Micro Enterprise Business Development, a First Time Homebuyers Program, and infrastructure grants, the latter of which established the city’s first ever sidewalk program and revolving loan fund.
“Mechanicville is a great place to live and raise a family,” said Tim.
“We are long overdue to reinvigorate our downtown, our housing stock, and our decaying infrastructure. We’ve experienced a record number of watermain breaks and failures in our community, and it has placed an undue hardship on our citizens and businesses. In my role as the Public Works Commissioner, I will lead the charge in finally addressing a real plan to end the biweekly watermain breaks and flooding. We need a plan, comprehensive and detailed,” he said.
Tim added that he will lead a bipartisan effort to create a citizen-based Comprehensive Plan committee.
“This group of community members and stakeholders will have a say in where our city is heading. Our community is part of the most thriving county in New York State,” he said.
“We have tremendous growth at our doorsteps. It’s time we enjoy the success of our neighboring communities. My experience in securing and drawing down state and federal funding will be a key ingredient in helping to cover the costs of major projects. In the coming months I look forward to knocking on doors, meeting new people, seeing old friends, sharing ideas, and collaborating with our citizenry.”

FRESH CORN TOMATO AND MOZZARELLA SALAD
INGREDIENTS
• 4 ears fresh corn on the cob, cleaned and washed
• 1 package (10 oz) grape tomatoes, halved
• 8 oz fresh mozzarella, cut in bite-size pieces or small mozzarella balls
• 10 basil leaves, ribboned thin
• 1/4 c fresh lemon juice
• 1/4 c olive oil
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 1/2 tsp each of kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper
DIRECTIONS
• Cut corn off the cob, place in medium mixing bowl. Add tomatoes and mozzarella.
• Sprinkle with basil and set aside.
• Add fresh lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper to jar or container that you can shake well to combine. Pour dressing over salad and toss.
COOK’S NOTES:
• If making ahead, you can prep the salad and dressing but don’t pour over the salad til ready to serve.
• You can cook the corn if you prefer, but I enjoy the fresh taste and crunch of it uncooked. The acid in the lemon juice will mellow out the starchiness of the corn and create a great flavor.

ith the bleachers crowded with family and friends, the Mechanicville/Stillwater Youth Basketball League enjoyed its End of Season celebration on Saturday at the high school gym. With a full range of activities scheduled for all three divisions of the program, it was a fun place to be on a cold, icy winter day.
Eric Connors, who along with his wife Allison, established the program three years ago for kids in grades kindergarten through sixth, took the mike to express their thanks and appreciation to not just the parents who get their children to the

gym every Saturday through the winter months, but also to high school principal Mike Mitchell and athletic director Tom Berrigan, “who are always there for the kids”, for making the gym available. The program, he noted, has grown from 190 participants in the first year to 230 in the second year and 270 this year.
He thanked Allison Eiseman and the basketball booster club for running a snack bar each week, Turning Point Sportswear for providing the children’s T-shirts, the custodial staff for making the gym ready, and all the family and community volunteers who serve as coaches and scorekeepers. He thanked his volunteer referees who often do as many as four games in a day throughout the season, quipping that although “not everybody likes referees”, he appreciated them. ▶

And he gave a big thank you to varsity coaches Alex Lilac and Mike Cavotta who provided the varsity and junior varsity players-turned-coaches to instruct the Bitty Ball group of 5, 6 and 7 year olds in the basic skills each week in spite of their own busy schedules.
Eric pointed out that it means a lot to the youngsters to be mentored by these high school athletes, and the camaraderie and relationship that they develop is a positive influence on the grade school kids. He noted that when Cruz Goverski, who is a frequent coach, celebrated the achievement of his 1000 points in his high school career at a game last week, that he high-fived every one the youngsters who came to congratulate him that night
Larry Grayson served as announcer for the skills drills the kids performed on the final day of the program.
The End of Season Celebration began as the Bitty Ballers did a drive and shoot drill, following which they were presented medals in recognition of their participation each week. The third and fourth grade and fifth and sixth grade divisions then had a shooting contest, with points scored for layups, free

The high school player/coaches then had their own display of skills as selected players competed with each other in three categories. The first, for the girls, was a three-point shot contest which saw Olivia Dowd outdo her teammates Ava Gaspie, Maddie Cavotta and Tanner Eiseman. The boys followed with their own three-point shootout, which saw Chris Couser top Logan Starks, Jack Salvadore and defending champion Mike Santiago.
No high school basketball competition would be complete without a slam dunk contest, which saw Mark Pingelski, last year’s champ, fly high enough to slam two shots as he outdid Mike Pugliese, Riley Loatman and Ryan Gaba.
The celebration concluded with the sixth graders competing in a basketball game, aptly showing how much the program has done in developing their skills at the game. The third, fourth and fifth graders were each presented with a wrist band while T-shirts were presented to the sixth graders who will now move on to modified basketball next season.
The program will be completed next week with All-Star Weekend. Playoff games will be played for the teams in the boys and girls third and fourth grade and fifth and sixth grade divisions.

Valley Falls Library Highlights Updates and Changes
by Christine Barton
The mission of the Valley Falls Library is to “inspire learning, advance education and help our entire community, live, learn and grow through books, media, the arts, technology and programming.” While many things have changed over the years, the mission of the library remains the same.
The library is once again in the process of a major change. Library Manager, Kelly Akin has announced her retirement, effective at the end of February 2025. Kelly came to the library in 1996 in a part time capacity. She became the manager in 2015. Kelly shares many highlights and changes since her time as the manager. Kelly started at the library in 1996 working part time as a clerk and worked a few hours a week while doing her other job which was full time at Hoosic Valley. When then manager, Sandy Goodwin retired, Kelly stepped into her current role as manager.
Kelly feels very accomplished of her time at the library. Among her accomplishments a few including helping to get the building project off the ground and establishing a close working relationship with Diver Library. Together the libraries increased their community presence through initiatives that include: becoming involved with the annual Harvest and the Strawberry festivals and along with the other county libraries, establishing a presence at the Schaghticoke Fair. In addition, she says, we have grown our media presence including our Facebook page and our website which has been a great benefit to our services.
It has been five years since the new addition to the library. The new library wing has increased traffic and interest in the library and its use. The community continues to support the library both in patronage and with financial support which ensures growth and security. Regular donations continue and most recently have gone to support the furnace replacement, heating costs and new books and media. A new heating and air system was put into the older part of the library. People can give donations year-round and every donation goes to support library operations and

Schaghticoke in the 1940’s: Chet and Ellen Hack
by Chris Kelly, town historian
People could still shop in the village of Schaghticoke. Touring the village, the new school was at the north end of the village, along with Clum’s gas station at the corner. Sisters Edna (1894-1965) and Vera (18861966) Stokes operated the “tea room” which became the Schag-a-val from at least 1940 to 1950. According to Dick Lohnes’ “Centennial Booklet” the tea room was begun by Mr and Mrs Irving Wiley in 1933. The Stokes were from Waterford. Just south on the east side of route
By the 1930 US Census, the family lived in Mechanicville, where Burt was an undertaker, Chet working as his driver. Chet attended what is now Green Mountain College. He married Ellen Hansen (1910-1991), daughter of Christian and Dagmar Hansen of Hansen Road in Schaghticoke.
Chet and Ellen bought a house on South Main Street in Schaghticoke by 1940, and he became his father’s assistant undertaker. Frank Harrison retired as the undertaker in Schaghticoke that year, and Burt and Chet took over. Burt Hack re-
40, Harry (1912-1994) and Charlotte (1921-2012) Wanko opened an auto repair garage. According to Dick Lohnes’ “Centennial Booklet”, a building was moved from down Main Street to form the core of the Wanko service station in 1937. The 1950 US Census listed Charlotte, 29, as her husband’s assistant. They ran the garage for 33 years, according to Charlotte’s obituary.
I spoke in an earlier column about the Cinelli’s drug store. Pat and Jennie were in business from 1933 to 1978. Tom Arnold ran the “Express” newspaper from 1933 to 1961. Howard Kenyon was the doctor from 1938 to 1950. Ernest Moon had a grocery store from 1930 to 1960. Of course, Diver Library had begun in the Diver home in 1939, where it continues today.
Both Chet and Ellen Hack were the undertakers. Chester Hack (1910-2006) was the son of Burt and Anna Hack, born in Ticonderoga.
tired in 1942. Just weeks after World War II began, Chet offered the use of his ambulance/hearse to the Rensselaer County Defense Council. (TR 9 Jan 1942) He also enlisted in the Coast Guard, and was stationed on Long Island by August 1943, when he was home visiting his family.
Perhaps Chet thought that Coast Guard service would keep him in the U.S., but it did not. He served as a Petty Officer in charge of visual

communications on LST(Landing Ship Tank) -763. This LST was launched in August 1944 and participated in the assault and occupation of Okinawa from April through June 1945. After occupation duty in the Far East, Chet was back in California by the end of October 1945.
Of course Chet came home after his service. By March 1946 he was Master of Victor Lodge (TR 26 Mar 1946) The Hack Funeral Chapel on Main Street was remodeled in 1947. (TR 3 Mar 1947) The Hack family, now including daughters Louise, Linda, and Beth, lived on Valley Falls Avenue by the 1950 US Census. In 1952 Chet opened the Hack Variety Store, in the old Post Office Building, across the street from the funeral home, according to Cliff Reynolds. That same year, Ellen became an undertaker, licensed embalmer, and business partner. (TR 26 Aug 1952)
Chet and Ellen could not have been more involved in their community. By 1951, Chet was a Scoutmaster. He was active in the American Legion. He and Dave Vanderzee and Joe McGrath developed the Willard Mountain Ski Area about 1956. By 1959 Chet was the manager. Chet also owned the Bonnie Highland Tree Farm in Greenwich, selling Christmas trees to the local community. He was a charter member of the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad and the Knickerbocker Historical Society, and helped form the Hoosic Valley Community Church. The Rescue Squad used his hearse as an ambulance when it began. Ellen died of ALS in 1991, but Chet survived until 2006. His obituary noted that he “enjoyed hiking, skiing, sailing, Scottish games, canoeing, writing stories about his life, and poetry.” They are buried in Hudsonview Cemetery.
Next week, more about the village. The photos are an ad for Chet’s Toy Store and a photo from Mary Ann Carangelo of Chet and Bruce Shriver with a stretcher in the back of the “ambulance.”

programming.
Community support continues to be supplemented with grant awards. Most recently the library received a grant from the United Women of Faith from the Upper New York Annual Conference. We recently were awarded a small grant that that has allowed us to purchase things for seniors to use, larger print puzzles, memory games, and other age appropriate and interesting items. We do have several area seniors that regularly patronize the library. Kelly notes that we keep our eyes open for grants that may be relevant to us.
Currently the library offers educational opportunities for youth and adults, consisting of classes, programming, events and activities. Over the years we have tried many different initiatives including our annual reading programs, the Art Matters, Health Matters and Music Matters programs. We have hosted local authors, musicians and artists, held coffeehouses where local musicians, poets and artists could come in and share their talent and offer entertainment for the community. This in addition to special events hosted during the holidays. It is hard to name them all but we have tried different programming platforms over the years for adults and youth. We continue to welcome ideas and always look for events and programming that is of interest and value to our community, says Kelly. Our longstanding books in motion program is still
going on as well as the books by mail program.
We also have resources for the community such as area museum passes and USS slater passes that patrons can use for free. As well we have computers and WIFI on site. We also do passports and flag collection and we have an AED (automated external defibrillator ) on site. The library offers many resources of value that the community may be unaware of, notes Kelly. Teen game night is something that is in process and is going well, says Kelly. We have a program coming up geared towards consent and boundaries to for youth in March that was a design by the Upper Hudson Library System. We are also doing a focus on mental health topics soon. Additionally, some upcoming events include the weekly birdwatch, winter reading challenge will go through March 31. Holiday centric events will also be planned throughout the year.
The Valley Falls Library board and staff would like to say good bye and best wishes to Kelly. “She worked hard, learned much, and welcomed all. We will miss her and her expertise but we celebrate her many years of service to our library and community.” A giant retirement card is set up at the Valley Falls Library for all to sign. Kelly plans to remain involved. She will miss the sense of community she has come to know being the library manager but now will remain involved as a patron.
The Valley Falls Library Facebook page as well as the website at www.valleyfallslibrary. org offers information and updates on events, activities and programming up and coming at the library.

St. Luke’s on the Hill
Inspired by the Scriptures and strengthened by the Sacraments, we proclaim Christ’s redeeming love for all.
King Versus King, vs. Love of Enemy Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
by Harold Wessell, Obl.S.B.
In the First Reading (Acts 1:12-14), the Lord saves the life of King Saul as he went into the desert with 3,000 Israelites to search for David. David meanwhile at a point finds Saul asleep with weapons nearby. Abishai, who accompanied David in the desert, wanted to use the weapons against Saul. David, acknowledging him as God’s anointed one, refuses to inflict harm on him for fear of divine retribution. David’s words at the end of the passage proclaim that the Lord will assuredly reward the just and faithful. Today’s Responsorial Psalm, Psalm 103, is a common choice during Ordinary Time. The

refrain from its Verse 8 makes us mindful of the Lord’s kindness and mercy. The psalmist blesses and thanks the Lord for all his benefits, especially forgiveness for sins. “The Lord has put significant distance between us and our sins. What final compassion we have experienced!”
The Second Reading (I Peter 4:13-16) continues a proclamation from the next to last chapter of First Corinthians, as Paul continues to develop his teaching on Jesus’ resurrection. He uses the Adam-Christ comparison as he speaks about the first man, Adam as a “living being,” and the last Adam as a “life-giving spirit.” The first man was simply earthly, and the second was from heaven. When we bear the image of one, we bear the image of the earthly man, but in the future we will bear that of the heavenly one. We will share in Jesus’ resurrection. Our eternal home will be in him.
The gospel for the day (John 1:1-11a) -Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount – continues, and he teaches his disciples to love their enemies, and bless those who curse them. His wisdom turns upside down the way the disciples have been accustomed to for relating to people.
In conveying his wisdom, Jesus attempts to distinguish what is required of his followers, versus the way sinners live. His Sermon on the Mount continues, as he teaches his disciples to

love their enemies and bless those who curse them. His wisdom turns the way the disciples are used to relating to people -- upside down. We will share in Jesus’ resurrection: Our eternal home will be in him.
In the Opening Prayer of the day’s liturgy we pray that we may fix our hearts on “spiritual things,” so that we may follow God’s will in word and deed. The Eucharist, the Holy Communion, is our pledge of salvation, our taste of eternal glory.
The gospel for today leads to a reflection on how we share our love and our treasures/resources with others. The so-called Golden Rule, which actually occurs in today’s gospel (“Do to others as you would have them do to you”) presents a good opportunity to reflect on the charitable efforts of your local church on behalf of the larger community, and how much you could help that, by contributions or in person.
The entire gospel text indeed works well as a personal spiritual reflection, helping us to critique our efforts at being faithful disciples: Disciples are to extend mercy in the same manner in which the Father does.
The story of King David and King Saul is a captivating narrative that delves into the complexities of faith, power, and the human condition. This epic

John left this earth on the 23rd peacefully, with loving family by his side. His last words were “ Give me a minute will ya?” and we all know he was resisting the call to go!
A lifelong resident of Mechanicville, he lived in Florida for the past 5 years. He grew up on S. Main Street and would share many tales of adventures and antics of people and days gone by.
He was an avid outdoorsman and lover of sports. He enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing in his beloved Adirondacks. He was a founding member of the Stoney Creek Rod and Gun club and was made a honorary lifetime member when he could no longer go.
He was especially happy to see that a few of his grandchildren followed in his footsteps to enjoy the great outdoors. The family tradition lives on through his generous spirit and teachings. The number of times he was hooked on the end of a line instead of the fish is innumerable as he taught the ways.
from NYSEG with many good memories and lots of stories there too.
John lived a full good life and had few regrets. The only one mentioned was having to leave the Army to come home and take care of his father after a severe railroad accident. He wanted to stay and serve.
His love of sports was throughout his life. He coached several youth baseball teams and played in local leagues. He was on the famous Whiz Kids basketball team and inducted into the Mechanicville Athletic Hall of Fame. He retired
John is pre-deceased by all of his siblings, Burt, Jimmy, Ronnie, Sissy and Mary McNeil as well as his parents Bert and Agnes McNeil. He joins his loving wife, Maureen Connelly McNeil, in heaven. He leaves behind a loving family of 4 children, Louise McNeil, Debbie( Ralph) Cerrone, Susan( Steve) Streeter McNeil, and Patrick McNeil. 7 grandchildren, Briana, Kaleigh, Riley, Sean, Katie, Rachel, and Ryan and 5 Great Grandchildren: Noemi, Alex, Jaxson, Abel and Ezra. When we were all together he would look over at our mom and say “look what we did!”
John truly enjoyed his life and made the best out of any possible situation. It took us all by surprise, especially him, that his body finally wore out when his mind was still so young. We are eternally grateful that he was our Dad and our Pops.
Rest easy and don’t cause too much trouble up there, Dad!
Nancy Johnson Capen
MELROSE – Today, February 10th 2025, our Mother Nancy Johnson Capen passed away in the care of Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She fought a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Heaven now has a beautiful Angel looking down so proud of her two sons. She taught us right from wrong and was always there to lend a helping hand. When we cried she cried, when we smiled she smiled. A truly amazing lady always giving of herself and her family, she was also very active in the Mechanicville United Methodist Church as well as singing in the church choir and the Dorothy Welch Choral Society. She loved watching sports and game shows, doing crossword puzzles and word search. She was a fantastic cook and baker of cakes, pies and cookies, which she handed down to her beloved sons. She also worked at her brother David Johnsons NAPA Auto Parts store from 1976 to 2009, when she retired. So much happiness and memories to last a lifetime, thank you Mom. We will be together again with you and Dad someday.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Richard K. Capen, as well as her parents David and Irene Rose Johnson, and sister and brother in law Jacqueline and Vincent Morrell.
Survivors include her sons Richard Capen Jr(Rita Horton) and Scott M. Capen, her brother David(Terry) Johnson, and several nieces and nephews.
Nancy’s family would like to offer sincere thanks to her neurologist Dr. Kahn, and the staff at Rosewood for the care given to her over the past few years.
Calling hours were held at the Mechanicville United Methodist Church, 7 N Main St, on February 15th from 10:30-12PM. A Funeral Service followed at Noon. Spring burial will take place in Hudson View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the United Methodist Church, in memory of Nancy E. Capen. Visit www.devito-salvadorefh.com to share a memory or photo, to leave condolences, or for directions to the church.

tale from the Old Testament offers a profound glimpse into the triumphs and tribulations of these two iconic biblical characters, showcasing the intricate dynamics of the Israelite monarchy.
(The narrative also explores the rise then downfall of Saul -- the first king of Israel -- and the subsequent ascension of David, who would eventually succeed him. Through this gripping account, readers are immersed in the themes of faith, courage, and the challenges faced by these leaders as they navigate the turbulent landscape of ancient Israel.
In the opening prayer of today’s liturgy the worshiping community prays that we may fix our hearts on “spiritual things” – may follow God’s will in word and deed. The Eucharist, the Holy Communion, is our pledge of salvation, our taste of eternal glory. The Gospel passage heard today thus leads to a reflection on how we share our love and our treasures, our resources, with others. The so-called Golden Rule is in today’s gospel (“Do to others as you would have them do to you”) ... and should prompt reflection on how we share our love and our resources with others, as local church members on behalf of the larger community beyond the parish. The entire gospel text should stir personal spiritual reflection, further helping us to evaluate our efforts at being faithful disciples – to extend mercy in the same manner in which the Father does.

Savannah is full of energy and loves staying active – anywhere you go, she wants to be there. But don’t let her energy fool you—when the playtime winds down, Savannah is a professional cuddler. She will happily curl up on the couch for some quality snuggle time.
Savannah has lived harmoniously with both a dog and a cat. She would do well with older children. Given her love of the outdoors, a tall, secure fence would be best but not required if she gets multiple long walks a day. Savannah is learning commands but is very smart and eager to make her people happy. Savannah has been treated for heartworm and is doing very well.
