A BRIEF OUTLINE ABOUT ZENER DIODES AND LITTELFUSE DIODES Diodes are one of the simplest but most effective and useful electronic component (semiconductor) device. There are different types of diode that are used for different application. In this post, we briefly discussed zener and Littelfuse diodes and their industrial applications. 1. Zener diode It is a special kind of diode that effectively permits current for flowing in the forward direction. Zener diode will also allow current to flow in the reverse direction when the voltage is above a certain value. This breakdown voltage is known as the zener voltage. It is essential to understand that in the standard diode, the zener voltage is high and the diode is permanently damaged if a reverse current above that value is allowed to pass through it. But the zener diodes are precisely designed by qualified engineered and technicians in such a way that zener voltage is much lower value. When a reverse current above the zener voltage passes through a zener diode, there is a controlled breakdown which does not damage the diode.
