Both Riot and White Sands wowed Mercedes Benz Fashion festival in Brisbane recently.
Riot (above left) and White Sands (pictured on the cover and above right) brought us two very different but very coveted looks this spring.
Riot’s ‘Postcards from Paradise’ collection achieves its unique look through digital printing and is inspired by the designer Gillian Marriage’s trips overseas.
Designer Leah Madden has taken her White Sands label to an international
level this year with interest from the big swimwear players - After exhibiting her designs recently at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami Beach, Victoria’s Secret requested a private viewing of the collection...ooh la la!
White Sands swimwear modelled here is from in the Florescence range that combines fluoro with a flora and fauna theme.

Gold Coast Hard rock StarS
Spot Warwick at Alfresco Restaurant in Surfers Paradise, where he says he loves the spaghetti marinara and supreme pizza.
On the weekends he loves to relax at Mount Tamborine and his favourite nightclubs are 21 and Hollywood in Surfers Paradise.
WHy Do WE LovE WARWICk CAPPER?...
Because he makes us laugh
Warwick has enjoyed great success on the field as an Australian Rules Football full-forward, and has achieved equal notoriety from the various inspired and successful publicity stunts he has come up with over the years. From running for Gold Coast Mayor to his latest vocation as a Gold Coast Meter Man, life is never boring when Warwick is around.
“I’ll tell you something funny. I was getting photos taken as a Meter Man in the lycra shorts and nearly ran into a pole and everyone had a bit of a laugh,” Warwick says, talking a mile a minute. “I thought being a Meter Man would be doing something different for a joke and Roberta is a friend of mine who runs Gold Coast Meter Maids. “I’m a bit of a prankster,” he says smiling broadly.
In 2007 Warwick ran for Mayor of the Gold Coast and is not without ideas on improving our fair city. “If elected Mayor I’d lower rates because a lot of older people can’t afford the rates,” Warwick says. “I’d also close nightclubs at 12.30am because there are a lot of drunks out.”
This year, there were more political attempts when Warwick campaigned to contest the 2009 Queensland state election in the electoral division of Beaudesert as an independent.
Warwick’s political endeavor sadly never got off the ground. He missed the midday deadline to register with the Queensland Electoral Commission on March 3.
Although Warwick has in the past worked as a “stripper to the stars” and reportedly released a porno, he says the recent newspaper reportage that he is offering his services as a male escort were not entirely accurate.
“The paper actually misquoted me,” he says. “I do more meet and greets at bucks and hens nights, comedy and corporate events. “I wouldn’t be an escort; it’s a bit cheap.”
Currently residing “in Surfers Paradise on the beach”, Warwick has lived on the Gold Coast for 20years. “I have travelled around the and nothing beats the people, atmosphere and climate of the Gold Coast. “I also love the mountains.”
Warwick played for the AFL Sydney Swans with a short stint at the Brisbane Bears and says the highlight of his career was his “first game and kicking 100 goals”.
During his career, the ex-footballer kicked a mammoth 388 goals in 124 games from 19831991, his best season being 1987 when he kicked over 100 goals. When asked about his plans for the future, Warwick says, “I’d say I will be staying here, doing the same thing”.
“I will hopefully open a pizza and seafood restaurant on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane and call it ‘Cappers’.”
To see what Warwick is up to now visit his newly launched website www.warwickcapper.com or try his odour control and anti-bacteria products, great for the gym – to find out more visit: www.Flexartstg.com.

Spot Ricki-Lee eating Teppanyaki at Bennihanas or in Broadbeach indulging in a Sunday afternoon champagne. For a “glamorous” night out she loves Sin City Nightclub.
For a great day trip she recommends to hire a soft top jeep and drive to Mount Tamborine to “enjoy the views and indulge in the food, wine, arts and crafts along the way”. She also loves Sea World where you can swim with the dolphins and Q1 Bar for its incredible views.

SOUND Finding her sound
Here Ricki-Lee speaks to DGC about finally being comfortable in her skin after a move to Melbourne; a recent heart-ache; and a few years of finding her ‘sound’.
Pre-Idol, I would go shopping, or out to dinner and I would have people recognising me as ‘that singer’ and coming up to say hi. I love a chat myself so I’m always up for it,” the bubbly singer says.
“That’s the great thing about the Gold Coast – it’s a small, friendly place and everyone is really supportive of each other.”
In the four years before Idol fame Ricki-Lee had residencies at venues like Melbas and The Clock Hotel and remembers back to her first ever gig at the Nerang RSL.
“I was 15 years old. It was an acoustic duo gig and I was so shy back then and very different to the girl you see on stage these days.”
This year, scoring the role of cohost on Australian Idol for the second year running, Ricki-Lee said she is focusing on a new life, a new album, and a new sense of direction.
After a relationship break-up and a recent move to Melbourne, RickiLee is now single and sporting a hot curvy look.
The singer has taken the high road over industry criticism of her curvy size-14 body and has chosen to become an unofficial advocate of the body-beautiful at all shapes and sizes.
“I’d really like to think I’m a part of that group of women who are healthy, happy with themselves and work out regularly, look great, and it shows in the way they move,” she says.
Ricki-Lee says it is not size that makes a woman beautiful, but “accentuating your features with great clothes and accessories”.
“Whether it is working with your height,
fantastic curves, strong legs, a sexy waist, a great bustline or a fantastic booty...I’m proud to say my booty is one of my favourite parts of my body and it’s anything but small!”
Ricki-Lee says her new album ‘Hear No, See No, Speak No’ is different to her past music with an edgier, more grown up and higher energy sound.
“The past four years I’ve been a little unsure of where my sound lies and what my direction is, which is not too inaccurate of what’s been going on in my personal life,” she says.
“I think I’ve found myself to a degree and that’s reflecting in every way in my music.”
Ricki-Lee has kicked goal after goal in the Australian pop market after signing with Shock Records, Australia’s largest independent record label, one year on from her debut on Idol.
“I chose to sign to an indie label over a major back in 2005,” she says.
“Indies have a lot more creative control over their path; a smaller, more personalised team
working the project; but lack the one thing that makes the world go around - money.
“Instead we use brainpower and strategy over bucks to stay in the race and produce an awesome glossy image to the public.
“Truth is, we do it on one-hundredth of the budget of my competitors.”
Asked if she will be visiting us on the Gold Coast, the singer says “Just try and keep me away! I’m there every month or two”.
“The Gold Coast will always be ‘home’ and, in the traditional sense, I still get a tingling feeling every time I land in QLD.”

and housing development. Now, when visiting Broadbeach, it is impossible to avoid the dining atmosphere and coffee culture.
Broadbeach Alliance Communications Manager, Tammie Readings paints Broadbeach as “a cosmopolitan destination with a resort setting”. “Owners of cafes and restaurants are comfortable chatting to customers, creating a very homey feel,” Tammie says.
A day out in Broadbeach with its Medi terranean influence, alfresco dining and reputation for great coffee reminds DGC reporter, Olivia Yacoub, in the following article, of her travels through Europe.
Sipping a latte from Madisons café, I eye the Gucci sandals of an elegantly dressed modelesque woman as she strides past, her eyes directed straight ahead behind her oversized Prada sunglasses. She heads towards a swimwear boutique where she rifles through the stylish bikinis as I head towards Mario’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria to lunch alfresco on fresh pizza.
My friend turns up just as my Zingara pizza arrives, the garlic prawns and camembert melting together, and we tuck in before discussing our evening plans to venture out to popular Asianinfused nightclub, East.
Broadbeach has become a centre of shopping, dining and coffee culture where visitors can indulge their food fancies in true European style: in the fresh air, or as the Italians say, ‘al fresco’. Decades ago, what was once recognised as a timber and sand mining territory quickly ripened into a commercial
In contrast to its mining days, visually Broadbeach is now chic and pleasing to the eye with modern bars featuring soft lighting and contemporary furniture; cool water fountains; vast grassy areas and comfortable cafés with their ‘just relax’ style. These cafes are everywhere in Broadbeach: The scent of Iced Mocha
Frappuccinos and White
Hot Chocolates from Starbucks carry down Surf Parade reaching Three beans, another quaint coffee shop. The scent continues reaching Madisons Café
with its vintage feel and bustling culture of chatter and gossip shared over a long coffee.
“Broadbeach has a young and classy atmosphere. I really enjoy a late night coffee in Starbucks whenever I’m there,” Adam Grbcic, a late night peruser of the area, explains.
For a relaxed atmosphere created by the vast café and al fresco dining possibilities try Broadbeach...On sunset you could almost be in the South of France.

Surf and sand with your boutique designer shopping park across the road from Marina Mirage on Seaworld Drive in Main Beach. Have a swim in the surf and then stock up on delicious chutneys and relishes and a Queensland specialty: Rosella Jam at the Farmers Market at Marina Mirage. Browse through high-end leisure wear boutiques then head to Glass restaurant and bar for some tapas overlooking stunning water views of the recently renovated Marina. try the yummy duck spring rolls, calamari with creamy aioli and bug lollypops to start.
