Exchange Theatre - 13th Exchange Season The Flies, by Jean-Paul Sartre June 11th - July 6th 2019 The Bunker, SE1

28 Shows

From turbulence to performance Political turbulence continues to characterise today’s society. Drama can help us all make sense of it. So, we’d like to invite you to become a partner of the signature performance of Exchange Theatre – a group with diversity at its very core. By supporting us, not only will you benefit from seeing a performance that’s all about bringing different cultures together, you will also be empowered to fully endorse diversity within your organisation.

The performance The Flies, a thriller by Sartre, re-imagines the Greek tragedy of Electra and Orestes, exploring the complexities of human values in a period of political turbulence – a theme that resonates strongly in 2019. Directed by David Furlong, our 10th anniversary revival will be performed alternately in English and in French, in tribute to Sartre’s roots. The cast will be joined on-stage by Mauritian band ‘A Riot in Heaven’, transforming this tragedy into a modern, tense and thrilling rock opera.

A cross-cultural Summer rendez-vous Every Summer, Exchange Theatre hosts its annual performance in London. Across June and July, we create professional productions with bilingual amateur dramatics, celebrating the power of theatre to bring different cultures together.

The Flies last featured in Exchange Theatre’s 2009 festival, so we are all proud to revive and reinvigorate it for 2019.

We will also feature three bilingual amateur dramatics shows based on works by major French and British playwrights: Marcel Pagnol - La Gloire de Marcel, Boris Vian - L’équarrissage pour tous and Tom Stoppard - Mais qui est le véritable Inspecteur Dupif ?

A theatre based on diversity, going beyond borders About Exchange Theatre We are a London-based, French Theatre organisation that brings people together through the Arts. Founded in 2006, we translate major plays from francophone theatre: Claudel, Sartre, Feydeau, Molière… masterpieces often unknown or forgotten on this side of the Channel. Our performances blend backgrounds, ethnicities and cultures to reach diverse, multicultural audiences - earning consecutive nominations for the Offies* Awards from 2016 to 2018. *Off West End Theatre Awards

This is your opportunity to not only be part of it, but also to use the power of international theatre to help pioneer new and original diversity and inclusion strategies within your organisation.
