10 DOS AND DON’TS WHEN OPENING AN ADULT DAY CARE 5 Dos 1. Knowledge: Please be sure to do your research and homework before you invest. You do not want to make unnecessary expenses to early. Know if you want to offer a medical and/or social model at your center. 2. Identify if you need a License for adult daycare in your state. Each state is different. In Michigan we do not need a license. If you need a license see what the criteria is. 3. Know who your funding sources are. Which agencies will pay you for Adult Daycare? Medicare, BCBS does not cover adult daycare. 4. Identify an area for your location where the community has disposable income. Be sure your facility will not need major construction and that it will pass inspection for an occupancy permit for your operation. There is no need to lease a building that cannot pass inspection. 5. Have your team of CPAs, Bookkeeper, your coach, an attorney, insurance agent, billing software, payroll, qualified staff and payroll company interviewed in advance. They will help you with your planning and budget.
