Welcome to the Lord Leycester Hospital, Warwick The Hospital is a building of historic and international significance, a jewel in Warwick’s crown and has stood on the same site in the center of Warwick for almost 900 years. The Chapel was built in 1123 and given by Richard II to the United Guilds of Warwick. Under the United Guilds, the Great Hall, Guildhall and Master’s House were built and it is these structures that you see today. One of the finest examples of medieval courtyard architect in England it is a unique and beautiful site! The Great Hall has been used for special events since the time of the middle ages and remains available for hire to this day! In 1571 the Earl of Leicester, Robert Dudley, acquired the buildings for use as a refuge for soldiers wounded during the wars of the Elizabethan era. Known as the ‘Brethren’, these retired and wounded military men have lived in the buildings ever since. Continuing a 450 year living legacy, you will still see the Brethren in their Elizabethan robes actively involved in the day to day life of this amazing medieval gem. Over the centuries, the ancient buildings and 500 year-old Gardens have been visited by Kings and Queens, and admired by many famous visitors such as Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde and Nathaniel Hawthorne, as well as countless other visitors from around the world.
The Lord Leycester Hospital is a special and unique place for weddings. The Guild Hall and Great Hall are registered for Civil Ceremonies and the Great Hall is an events room that has been used for seven centuries for all special events and celebrations. The Guild Hall is a magnificent room, steeped in history and an excellent space for receptions, dinners, and civil ceremonies. For planning purposes our rooms take the following numbers: Guild Hall: 70 Great Hall: 100 In addition, the Courtyard, a fine example of medieval courtyard Architecture, is a sheltered, sunny and atmospheric spot for a Drinks reception. Guildhall This ancient hall, built by the Guildsmen of Warwick, is registered for civil ceremonies and seats up to 80. It can also be used for drinks receptions, presentations, private dinners, and conferences.
The Great Hall Seats 100 and can accommodate a band, DJ or musician.
Your guest can be welcomed by our Brethren
in Elizabethan robes.
The Masters Garden Can be used on request for receptions and photographs.
