WELCOME AGE CONCERN NEW FOREST is a local charity based in Dibden Purlieu. We provide vital services for local older people including: • • • • • • • •

Information and Advice Footcare Befriending Telephone Buddying Computer Clubs Lunch Clubs Waterside Goodneighbours Computers at Home

OUR AIMS: • • • • • •

To help all older people living in the New Forest To encourage suitable activities for the many fit and active older people in the area – to help them remain independent for as long as possible To provide and encourage social contact and friendship for all older people To help plan the services older people want and need To ensure that the local Council and Health Authority know what older people require To involve older people in supporting local projects

YOU CAN HELP US: We receive no funding for the work we do and we are very reliant upon voluntary contributions and fundraising activities. We are always in need of contributions and donations to maintain and expand our services. We have 4 local charity shops (Dibden Purlieu, Totton, Holbury and Blackfield) which provide us with an income that is used to provide our services to the local community. All money raised in our shops stays local. We employ 8 part time staff and have over 200 Volunteers who help run all our services. New Volunteers are always welcome and we can offer a wide range of opportunities for you to help us. If you think you could spare some time, no matter how little, come and see us and find out how you might help us. Come and join our happy team!

AGE CONCERN NEW FOREST - helping local older people to know that they are cared for and valued; supporting them to receive the benefits they are entitled to; offering companionship; helping them to make informed decisions about their lives. OUR SERVICES INCLUDE: INFORMATION AND ADVICE The office is open 10am – 1pm every weekday. Our free services help older people make informed decisions and choices based on accurate and up to date information including: • • • • • • • •

Pensions Benefits Housing Utility bills Mobility aids and adaptions Residential care Health Leisure and social activities

We have a monthly dementia drop in where you can make an appointment to see an adviser from the Alzheimers’ Society. We also hold monthly I&A drop-in sessions at the Three Score Club in Totton. Please contact our office on 023 8084 1199 for full details. FOOTCARE: We offer affordable foot care through clinics at 5 venues. Our footcare specialists are fully qualified and the service is very popular. BEFRIENDING: We can arrange for a Volunteer to visit an older person in their own home. This service is aimed at those who do not receive regular visitors.

SERVICES CONTINUED: TELEPHONE BUDDYING: Some older people prefer a regular chat over the telephone, to make them feel that they are not forgotten. A Volunteer can arrange to phone on a regular basis. COMPUTER CLUBS: More and more older people are become adept at using IT. Our informal clubs enable older people to get together, share skills and ask questions. We encourage digital inclusion, ensuring older people get the most out of using the internet. LUNCH CLUBS: We hold two clubs a week in Totton and Bartley. Clients are served a two course hot lunch amongst friends and transport is provided. We also hold a monthly Sunday Lunch Club in Dibden. A three course lunch is cooked on the premises and served in a friendly atmosphere. Transport is provided. WATERSIDE GOODNEIGHBOURS: A database of Volunteers is used to provide neighbourly care to those who need that little helping hand. Tasks include shopping, collecting prescriptions and dog walking. This service provides a safety net for those who do not need regular care and support but occasionally finding themselves needing help. You can telephone the Co-ordinator direct on 023 8084 3676. COMPUTERS AT HOME: One to one help for older people in their own homes to help gain confidence and new skills.

Regardless of how much or how little time you have to spare we have a variety of opportunities for you to help us including: Footcare Receptionist; Lunch Club Hostesses; Minibus drivers; Office assistants; Shop Assistants; Minibus Escorts; Cooks/kitchen help; Befrienders; Goodneighbours; Telephone Buddies; Ebayers; Computer Assistance. Please contact us if you would like to know more about how you might help us. Training will be given and out of pocket expenses are paid. We have 9 Trustees on our Board, each giving their expertise to ensure that the organisation continues to thrive. ABOUT US We work in partnership with other providers in the area to ensure that older people, their families and carers can get the support they need, when they need it. We are a member of the NEW FOREST ADVICE NETWORK which is a group of 5 organisations working in partnership to ensure that all people in the New Forest can have easy access to good quality Information and Advice. Although we are a stand-alone Age Concern we are an associate of Age UK Southampton which ensures we have the wealth of knowledge and expertise of Age UK nationally supporting us and we have good working relationships with other Age UK/Age Concern branches. Across the UK 3 million older people have no one to turn to for help and support Here’s how you can help our work: • Volunteer -

We can offer a wide range of Volunteering opportunities from Shop Assistant to Minibus Driver, from Cook to Office Assistant

If you do not want to commit to regular support we are delighted to receive one-off donations. Our shops will always welcome donations of good quality goods to sell

Services for people living with dementia It has been proven that cognitive stimulation therapy can help improve quality of life for people living with dementia. We offer a 14 week programme which is structured to stimulate cognition via increased interaction, use of language and conversation. Call Elena on 07764 790330 to find out more

NHS and Private Dental Services in the New Forest SCA Trafalgar is a local, not-for-profit NHS and private dental service. We pride ourselves on ensuring that patients who haven’t been to the dentist for a number of years, or who have a phobia, feel comfortable in our practices. Tendring Care Home

Tendring Care Home is a 23 bedded home situated in Totton with close access to Southampton and proximity to the New forest. We cater for a mixed client group but do specialise in dementia care. This delightful home offers some rooms with patio doors, which open out onto the pretty garden space where residents can enjoy a cup of tea or lunch under the gazebo cover provided. This is encouraged by the staff who are here to cater for your every need.

Our services • Tendring Rest Home offers specialist dementia care, and is an ideal choice for long-term residential needs. • Carers are compassionate and skilled in many conditions. • Tailored care plans are provided to meet individual requirements. • Charming surroundings and homely interiors make for a comfortable lifestyle at Tendring, suiting the team’s aims of helping each resident achieve a retirement that is comfortable and dignified. • Some rooms have direct garden access and the conservatory dining room has garden views. • All rooms are en-suite. • The activities programme is extensive with an outside company providing a selection of activities to meet clients needs. • Other activities include visiting singers, games, reminiscence, one-to-one sessions, film shows and nail/beauty. • Outside trips are organised to cover trips and outings to the New Forest, boat rides and we are happy to discuss any social needs with residents.
