"Many ideas grow better when transplanted into another mind than the one where they sprang up"

Transparency Newsletter

Overview

This newsletter compiles the responses from the ID Transparency Report to provide a glimpse into team members' experiences, wish lists, and approaches to creating training and learning materials. The goal is to create more collaboration and transparency across portfolios and projects.

Phase of the Design Process Most Overlooked

14% of Responses Chose Editing/Review

Identified Roadblock

Sometimes we don’t bake in enough time for the editing/review portion or forget about pieces connected to that

Analyze 43% Evaluate 43% Editing/Review 14%

43% of Responses Chose Analyze

Identified Roadblocks

IDs are rarely involved in Analyze, and the data we get is typically focused on the business need gap instead of the training gap

Lacking true kick-off meetings or analysis of the materials, leading to missing key information that would've cut on design time

Potential Solutions

More emphasis on consultation, things like action mapping

Asking three key questions at the start of a project: 1. Why does the learner need to know this? 2. What are they going to learn? 3. How will they prove they know it?

43% of Responses Chose Evaluate

Identified Roadblocks

We create courses then put it out there but don't hear back from anyone who actually goes through what we created Only matters if you intend to iterate the training or if there are specific measurable learning outcomes defined

Potential Solutions

Build stronger relationships with the SMEs/facilitators to be an active part of the evaluation process to provide ideas and suggestions

Implementing assessments throughout our training content to gauge learner knowledge at the beginning, middle, and end of all of our training

Ideal Level of Transparency Across Portfolios Responses Fell into Four Categories

Need-to-Know Basis

Whatever level is necessary to complete assignments

Rarely have I felt the need for this. If I have needed it for collaboration, a quick question to the owner was sufficient

Enough to Provide Assistance

Don't need full details, but it would be nice to know what each other's workloads look like because if someone/a portfolio is overloaded with work, it would be nice to offer assistance

Surface level- enough that if they needed support in areas I am stronger at I could offer my assistance or they could ask me for assistance

I would like to know general knowledge about what they are working on. Also anywhere that we could be of help if there is time/knowledge that we can share

As much as is needed to help when and where help is needed

Project Overview

The topic of the project and the teams they're partnering with to know the organization's prioritized areas of training, possible impact to my portfolio, and who I can partner with for future projects

I think I'd like to understand the content of other portfolios more and maybe just have a high level overview of the progress of their projects

I think it would be nice to know what projects other teams are working on, but not necessarily updates with their ongoing progress

Specifics

I'd like to know what major project(s) the portfolio is working on, the biggest roadblock they are facing at the moment, and some ideas they have but haven't been able to implement yet

Medium-High: I think it is more about ensuring equity in terms of workload amongst all team members. Making sure some team members aren't overloaded, while other's don't have enough 100%

Potential Changes to Make as the Entire ID Team to Better Support Other Teams in the Future

Working sessions as together that isn't just with our direct team to grow our skills and receive feedback

More Agile workflow(s) to work as a team while fostering self-sufficiency and autonomy

Assign and rotate facilitators for ID meeting topics, and establish a point person for new project initiatives

Streamline processes and expectations to have one standard regardless of portfolio/team: Meeting with SMEs, formatting used in trainings, etc.

More communication between NSC and DSC on what projects are available to work on

Visibility of current projects for each portfolio with some keywords of the new content/changes being made: Sharing of SmartSheets or Box Notes on a quarterly basis?

Support LOCS during in-person events

Reinstate the past practice of a media specialist hosting sessions to teach team members about certain applications
