5 Things to Know About Electric Scooters in India!

A lot of people are now preferring electric scooters due to the various benefits they offer over the traditional fuel-powered scooters. Many brands have already launched electric scooters in the country and their sales are steadily increasing too. But as compared to conventional scooters, electric scooters are considerably different. This means that there are a number of things that you should know before you buy an electric scooter in India. Here are 5 such important things one must know before purchasing one. What to Know About Electric Scooters in India

Let’s check out what you need to know about electric scooters in India. 1. Electric Scooters Prove Cheaper

A widespread myth among a lot of people in the country is that electric scooters are expensive. But as a matter of fact, many conventional two-wheelers are more expensive than electric scooters. It is important to know that the long-term costs of owning an electric scooter are also minimal. Needless to say, you will not be required to purchase petrol for the scooter. The electric scooters can be easily charged at home and consume minimum electricity. Even the maintenance and upkeep costs of the scooters are lower than traditional two-wheelers. 2. Kilometers Per Charge

One of the most common things that a lot of people interested in purchasing an electric scooter want to know about is the maximum kilometers a scooter can run on a full charge. This depends on the type and capacity of the battery. So, there is no single answer to this question as all the different scooters have different specifications. For instance, there are electric scooters that can run for 70km — 80 km on a full charge, and then there are some that can run up to 100 km. What is more important is the energy consumed by the electric scooter batteries to fully charge. The units of electricity required mostly depend on factors like the level of charge available when recharging starts and the specifications of the charger. 3. Government Incentives To make electric vehicles more popular in India, the Government is working to make them more accessible by offering incentives to offset the price of EV purchases. For instance, with the launch of the FAME II scheme (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India), the Government is offering subsidies to encourage consumers to buy EVs. For electric two-wheelers, incentives per kWh of battery capacity have been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 while maximum subsidy amounts will be up to 40% of vehicle costs. 4. Licence Requirement

As per the CMVR, vehicles that are operated by battery and have a power lower than 250 watts and speed capped at 25kmph do not require the rider to have a license. Moreover, you do not even have to register the eScooter. This is only applicable if your scooter meets the power and speed limit rule of the CMV. If the electric scooter you are purchasing is of more power or has a higher speed, you will have to register the scooter and also get a license for the same. 5. EV Charging Stations The Government of India has already set up hundreds of charging stations in the country and is working towards setting up more in near future. Moreover, even many manufacturers are planning to set up super-charging stations across the busy routes of metro cities. Electric vehicles can be charged at homes too. We at ewheelers Mobility are also working towards making EV charging stations more accessible to the users. Combined with Government initiatives, the presence of the charging stations is expected to increase drastically in the near future. Conclusion While many countries are currently leading this switch to electric vehicles, India too is not far behind. Many companies are coming up with advanced features and high-speed variants with better battery performance. The Government is teaming up with the

manufacturers to offer enhanced benefits to the consumers in order to achieve its 2030 target of making India an all-electric vehicle country. Above are the reasons that make the electric scooter a better choice as compared to the conventional two-wheelers.
