Connecting the Community to Vital Care

The Lee Johnson Family Intensive Care Unit is open to patients and their families

Once a blank canvas, EvergreenHealth’s newly constructed intensive care unit (ICU) opened its doors to patients and their families on July 15. The new ICU, named for its benefactor the Lee Johnson Family, has enabled the health system to continue serving patients and their family members with the highest quality care and service from a stateof-the-art unit that combines the latest health care technology, thoughtful design and inclusive functionality in the most advanced healing environment.

Conveniently Located

The 22,000-square-foot, 20-bed ICU is located on the third floor of the Silver Tower on the Kirkland campus and relocates the unit from the oldest part of the hospital to a newer, more convenient and efficient location. By situating the new ICU closer to other clinical specialties and amenities, it eases the experience for patients and their families during their time of need.

Built for the Future

The new ICU’s state-of-the-art technology includes upgraded equipment and innovative technology in an environment that best supports patient care and outcomes. The unit’s design allows for structural flexibility that promotes the future integration of new systems, upgraded medical equipment and technological innovations as they emerge, meaning the unit can plan for the future without requiring additional renovations.

Thoughtful, Inclusive Spaces

Importantly, the Lee Johnson Family ICU was designed to create intentional spaces within patient rooms, and across the unit, that help families feel welcome and included in their loved one’s care. The unit also houses private consultation rooms for families to gather as a group, seek solitude or talk with their clinical team.

Enhanced Patient Safety

The ICU integrates important features that allow the clinical team to provide the safest care and service. It allows clinical staff to administer dialysis, when necessary, and offers staff ceiling lifts to support and help patients that cannot move independently. Each nurse station is now equipped with monitors and a visible line of sight to each patient.

Recognized for Excellence in Critical Care

Healthgrades recently recognized EvergreenHealth’s Critical Care team’s performance as among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for the 8th consecutive year.

“Every single nurse, nurse helper, doctor, nutritionist, housekeeper and staff member… Thank you very, very much for your lifegiving support.”

“Our father was admitted for COVID to the ICU for treatment. The staff extended extraordinary support and assistance so that the rest of Dad’s family could be assured he was receiving the best possible care. We particularly appreciated the extra time given to be with our Dad and providing the BlueJeans video conferencing so that all his family could be 'with’ him. It was so meaningful to him to see his children (and spouses), grandchildren and great-grandchild all on one screen, able to speak with him, share stories and reminisce before he passed away. We are forever grateful to all who made his last days as good as they could be.”
