• You can expect a tub-to-shower conversion project to be completed in about a day. A bathtub that is already surrounded by walls can be replaced with a shower relatively easily. The installers may need to make some plumbing adjustments, but the drains and water lines should already be in place.
• The shower-to-tub conversion process is similar to that of converting a bathtub to a shower. Your contractor will remove the shower stall and install a bathtub in its place. These projects normally take one or two days. Most contractors use one-piece bathtub units made of either fiberglass or acrylic for conversion projects.
• Tub and shower conversion contractors often offer one-day bathroom “facelifts,” or cosmetic remodels.

Interview and request bids from at least three companies so you’ll have enough information to make a good comparison. Try to resist being swayed by price alone. Your budget is certainly important, but the lowest bid may not result in the outcome you want.

Make sure you’re on the same page with the contractor. All project details and verbal commitments should be in writing before signing a contract. Reliable companies use written contracts to clarify terms and set mutual expectations.
Only compare apples to apples. Educate yourself about the quality of what you are buying, or taking the lowest price may cost you more in the end. Never make the final payment until you are completely happy. Contractors could be much less interested in making you happy after they have been paid in full. Some less-reputable individuals will present many seemingly plausible reasons why you should pay them now instead of waiting until the end of the project. Do not be pressured into paying early.
Thoroughly check references. Before hiring a contractor for a major project such as remodeling, interview a few of the company’s references. When talking with references, ask questions about quality, schedule adherence, cleanup, communication, and disagreement resolution. Request lien releases. A lien is a claim made against a homeowner’s property by an individual or company that has supplied labor or materials and has not been paid.
