Company Highlights
B
“Value creation is not a zero-sum game in business. A company can create value for investors by creating value for all of the people it impacts.”
DEAR
INVESTORS,
Investors are not often privy to the real-life impact of their investments; it’s not something that the charts and graphs on portfolio performance reports display. That’s why we created these highlights. We want you to see what businesses are doing outside of what’s reported on their financial statements. You may be surprised to learn that you own businesses that have a deep, positive influence on the lives of your neighbors and people across the globe:
• the morning commuter who can arrive to work on time due to improved traffic management;
• the single mother whose daily life is made a bit more manageable by online purchasing and quick, free shipping;
• the patient seeking treatment for disabling diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, or cerebral palsy;
• the employee who finds his work purposeful because of a great management team and is more productive as a result;
• the business owner whose cash-based business can access modern financial services for the first time; and
• all of the injury, illness, or other harm that is eliminated because companies creatively develop better procedures.
As we look at companies to invest in, we consider how the company will grow in the future—Will it grow by creating a product or service that will benefit society? Or, will its core business be harmful to people? Will it build a sustainable operating model that attracts motivated employees, loyal suppliers, and strong community support? Or, will it coerce and squeeze its various stakeholders, thinking that is the only way to grow the bottom line?
We aim to serve you, our clients, and partners, by investing in companies that excel financially. We also want to remind you of the big picture: you are playing an essential role in the world by investing in companies that excel in creating compelling value for the global common good.

INDUSTRY 4.0
RAPID PROTOTYPING AND on-demand manufacturing are changing how physical objects, from tiny computer chip assemblies to giant machine parts, are designed, refined, and brought to market. But the fastest 3D printer or waterjet cutter is no match for slow supplier diligence or stalled price negotiations. The result is a $2 trillion-plus manufacturing market with massive inefficiencies. Xometry offers an AI-enabled marketplace for on-demand manufacturing, allowing buyers to source on-demand manufactured parts and assemblies efficiently and sellers of manufacturing services to grow their businesses. With Xometry’s website and software plug-ins, designers and engineers can get instant price and lead time quotes, while sellers can get quick order offers tailored to the services they can deliver. Xometry’s AI-driven systems analyze design files to improve pricing accuracy and identify potential issues before manufacturing begins. Xometry’s buyers vary from self-funded startups to Fortune 100 companies.

5G & DATA INFRASTRUCTURE
FOR RETAILERS , the rise of the mobile internet means that it’s never been easier for people around the world to find out about your products—but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s possible for them to actually buy them. Local currencies, tax regimes, and delivery particularities make cross-border sales challenging for businesses, effectively cutting off otherwise interested customers. Global-e helps over a thousand brands and retailers across the U.S., Europe, and Asia bridge that gap to welcome cross-border customers to make selling globally as easy as selling locally. Global-e’s software platform helps retail partners meet customers where they are with local messaging, pricing, shipping options, and clear information about import taxes and returns. On the back end, Global-e gives its partners tools for AI-based fraud detection and offers pay-as-you-go options to expand into new markets without huge up-front costs.

In response to the rapid shift towards cloud-based solutions, Datadog has embraced artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance its platform, moving from simple observability to proactive, automated problem-solving. This innovation keeps Datadog at the cutting edge, ready to meet the dynamic needs of cloud computing.

Trane Technologies Dublin, Ireland
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
AROUND A QUARTER of global carbon emissions are connected to climate control—15% from the heating and cooling of buildings and 10% from food waste that could be prevented with refrigeration. Trane Technologies embraces both the responsibility and opportunity of these statistics. It is working to reduce 1 billion metric tons of carbon emissions from its customers’ footprint by 2030 while also pushing its entire industry to develop and adopt more efficient technologies. Trane’s flagship brands have deep roots in climate control, stemming from Jacob Trane’s innovations in heating systems in the late 1800s. Thermo King, a subsidiary of Trane, developed the first successful truck-based refrigeration system in the 1940s and today makes efficient refrigerators for cold chain shipments by road, rail, and sea. Trane’s climate control systems have been installed in the Statue of Liberty, and the English Channel Tunnel.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
WHEN IT COMES to careers that serve public health, we might think of clinic nurses or scientists doing R&D. But perhaps we should think first of the people who collect and haul away our garbage, compost, and recycling. The reliable, safe, and sustainable removal of waste is critical for communities to flourish. Unfortunately, waste removal can be a dangerous and difficult job. Waste Connections is helping make waste management safer, more sustainable, and more accessible to secondary markets across North America. By providing reliable solid waste collection, transfer, recycling, and disposal services, they are underpinning the health and safety of local communities. They are also supporting the health and safety of their own team members with excellent training and strict safety standards and working to ensure that landfills are operated in an environmentally sound manner. Most notably, their “servant leadership” philosophy has resulted in some of the lowest turnover and safety incident rates in the industry. We believe this care for employees such care for their employees has helped make Waste Connections one of North America’s leaders in waste management services.

Old Dominion Freight Line Thomasville, NC 3.
TRUCKERS ARE OFTEN away from home for weeks at a time. Unless, that is, they work for Old Dominion Freight Lines.
Old Dominion Freight Lines is one of the largest North American less-thantruckload (LTL) motor carriers, making over 50,000 shipments per day, with an average length of shipment over 900 miles. The company’s motto is “Helping the World Keep Promises,” which they do in part through an ontime delivery rate of over 99%. Old Dominion provides great transportation jobs with 95% of their drivers at home every night. They also offer their employees a “Dock to Driver” training program, higher wages, safe driving bonuses and has been named a top company for women working in transportation.
4. Roper Technologies Lakewood Ranch, FL
CLEAN WATER TECHNOLOGY
INDUSTRIAL COMPANIES ARE changing the way they do business to keep up with technological demand. This evolution can be seen in several industries that have relied on traditional methods of conducting business. Take, for example, highway toll stations. Highway toll stations that require drivers to stop, search for loose change, and hand money to an operator are rapidly being replaced with overhead electronic scanners that, in an instant, can read a transponder on the car’s windshield or take a picture of its license plate. The driver is then sent a bill in the mail or has the toll deducted from their online bank account. A number of similar examples could be cited—automatic water meter reading technology, employee badge readers, and measurement systems used in medical and industrial applications. Roper sits at this intersection between industry and technology, operating over 40 businesses that develop software and engineer products for a variety of niche end markets like those mentioned above. Key to Roper’s success has been their consistent operational strategy, which starts with finding companies that are the right fit, providing them with the tools they need to succeed, and implementing a “CEO-coaching/ mentorship” program that ensures quality and sustainability.

GENETICIST PAUL M. NURSE shared the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering key regulators in the process of cell division. One such regulator–a protein kinase he named WEE1, derived from the Scottish dialect word “wee”–influences the size of daughter cells by delaying division until the right time. Today, WEE1 is one of the main focuses of Zentalis Pharmaceuticals’ pipelines to deliver innovative small-molecule cancer-fighting medicines. Its drug Azenosertib is a potentially firstin-class and best-in-class treatment that inhibits WEE1 in cancer development, causing cancer cells to divide too early, resulting in the death of their daughter cells. Azenosertib is currently in multiple clinical trials for treating ovarian, uterine, and other cancers.

FINANCIAL SECURITY & ACCESS
SOME OF THE most complex, highstakes, high-value payments we make are for education and healthcare. A completed degree or a necessary surgery can be life-changing, but large lump-sum bills for tuition or a hospital stay can be difficult to manage for both sides of the payment equation—stressful for the ones receiving the bill and time-consuming for the institution’s employees. Flywire’s global payments enablement software provides real solutions to the affordability challenges that continue to plague the healthcare and education sectors by providing clear billing, easy-to-enroll payment options, and secure transactions from over 240 countries and territories in more than 140 currencies. In healthcare, Flywire’s systems can enable patients to see what they will owe out-of-pocket even before they step into a hospital room and then set up a payment plan that is based on their budget and capacity to pay. Founded in 2009, Flywire is based in Boston and has more than a dozen offices globally. The company has been named a great place to work by Fortune magazine, the Boston Globe, and Inc.com.2
