PorchFest FivePoints Builds Community Through Music Photos by Steve Babin PorchFest was back for its second year on May 7. The event âplayed outâ on porches on or near Pratt Avenue, Five Points. The purpose of the event is to build community through live music. Complete with food trucks in various spots in the neighborhood, eight host porches participated.

The event was born when two women who love live music got together with a vison. Jenny Askins moved to Huntsvilleâs Five Points District in 2020 and invited friends to play a private concert on her front porch. Jenny mentioned her vision to friend Judy Allison, a local singer-songwriter, music business owner and member of the Huntsville Music Board, who had performed in a similar event in Franklin, Tenn. âMusic is such a powerful, magical medium to communicate connectedness and create lasting bonds. All of our artists are carefully chosen for their hearts for the community,â said Allison. âThis is a true grassroots event that couldnât happen without the support of the Five Points neighborhood and the amazing sponsors that believe in what weâre doing,â said Askins. This yearâs Presenting Sponsors were Huntsville Music Scene and Destination Huntsville. n
