5th EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TALLINN / ESTONIA 2005 The 5th European University Volleyball Championship took place from June 30th to July 04th, 2005 in Tallinn, Estonia. 22 European university teams (11 men and 11 women) from 13 European countries took part at the competition, amongst them for the first time in the history of the European University Volleyball Championships also the university teams from Russia, Latvia, Estonia and Finland.
The Opening Ceremony was held on June 30th, 2005 in the Open Air Museum. Mr. Peeter Kross, the Rector of the Audentes University welcomed the participants; while mr. Matjaz Pecovnik, the EUSA Secretary General officialy opened the championship. After the ceremony the participants could enjoy in Estonian music, dances and food on the coast of the Baltic Sea. The Organising Committee, formed by representatives of the Estonian Academic Sport Federation (EASL) and the Audentes University, did really a great job. There were many students actively involved in the organisation and running of the event; among them also volounteers from the EUSA training program. With the professional staff it created a very positive and supportive environment and very successful delivery.
Teams started arriving in Tallinn by plane, bus or ship one day before the official start of the Championship. The organisers aranged the transportation from the arrival points to the Dzingel Hotel, where all the participants were accomodated. The Technical meeting was organised on June 29th, 2005, with 47 officials attending. The EUSA Technical Delegate Mr. Lenny Barry presented them the format of the competition; after that the draw was done.
