FISU FORUM

EUSA was also invited to take part at the FISU FORUM. Mr. Enno Harms, EUSA President, presented the participants the structure and activities of EUSA. At the Annual General Meeting on 18th June a new Officer Group was elected to lead the British Universities Sports Association: Chairman (2004-2006): Phil Attwell, Director of Sport at the University of Exeter. Non Student Vice Chair (2004-2006): Nigel Mayglothling, Student Vice Chairs (2004 – 2005): Ed Blockley, Lindsey Booth, Alex Stacey. Two other members of the Officer Group remain in office consequent upon being elected in 2003 for a two year period: Non Student Vice Chair: Neil Walker, Honorary Treasurer: Al MacEwen. On July 14th, 2004, the City of Innsbruck awarded high decorations to eleven honourable personalities. Among them, President of Austrian University Sports Association, Mr. Wolf Frühauf was decorated with the City of Innsbruck order of merit (Verdienstkreuz). Since the mid 70s, Mr. Wolf Frühauf, as highest officer on the part of the Ministry of Science and Research, has been in charge of all investments and construction projects of the universities and in particular for the University of Innsbruck. As the President of the Austrian University Sports Federation, since 1996/97, he took the initiative for the Winter Universiade Innsbruck/Seefeld 2005, with the result that Innsbruck/Seefeld was awarded the Winter Universiade 2005. Since that time he has been member of the Organising Committee of the WU 2005 as well as member of the board of directors of the ISOC 2005 GmbH.

FISU held the 7th FISU FORUM in the period July 21st – 27th, 2004 in Lisbon/POR. The 145 students and officials from 44 countries underlined the unique importance and special opportunities which university sport in the widest terms can contribute to the educational process within higher education. The main theme of “Education through University Sport” in the context of a new knowledge society was chosen for this multi-national forum, in order to elaborate on the undoubted value of participation in Sport as part of a life long learning process.
