News / Members AUSTRIA / GERMANY / SLOVENIA COOPERATION BETWEEN ISOC 2005 and NUSF

In March, ISOC 2005 met with representatives of the German University Sports Association (ADH) to discuss cooperation on Winter Universiade 2005. ISOC 2005 Secretary General, Markus Redl, the ADH Secretary General, Olaf Tabor, and the ADH Sports Director, Thorsten Hütsch, agreed on sending 16 German volunteers to the Winter Universiade Innsbruck/Seefeld 2005 (WU 2005).

A few days later, a delegation of the Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA) came to Innsbruck for a consultation visit. SUSA, represented by Secretary General Matjaž Pečovnik and Vice President Božidar Pučnik, and the Austrian University Sports Organisation (ZHSA) agreed on a cooperation that was launched by the ISOC 2005.

HUNGARY PRESIDENT OF THE HUNGARIAN UNIVERSITY SPORTS ASSOCIATION HONOURED

On March 15th, the national day of the Republic of Hungary, Hungarian NUSF President, Mr. Róbert Frenkl, was awarded the Commander’s Cross, Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic. The award was bestowed by the President of the Hungarian Republic and the Government. Apart from personal recognition, Mr. Frenkl also received the highest honours for his educational work and his dedication to the university sports for almost half a century.

GREAT BRITAIN BRITISH UNIVERSITY GAMES

The British University Games (BUGs), BUSA’s largest annual event and the pinnacle of the domestic representative sports programme, were held at the beginning of April at the University of Bath. The competition puts 500 student athletes from across the country against one another as they compete for their Home Nation University in five sports: badminton, basketball, football, hockey and netball. As well as an award for the overall top team, there are prizes for the winning nation in each sport. This year, English Universities have won the Trustees Trophy for the overall winning nation for the tenth successive year at the 2004 British University Games. Results: 1. English Universities 2.
