Invitation to participate in EUC 2010 European University Sports Association (EUSA), the National University Sport Associations (NUSAs), together with the Organising Committees of the European Universities Championships are inviting university teams across Europe to participate in the 2010 championships.

AZS members in Vancouver 2010 - 2 February 2010 Poland is one of 86 countries participating in XXI Olympic Winter Games that will begin on February 12th in Vancouver. The Polish national team consists of 46 sportsmen. 20 of them are talented members of the University Sports Association of Poland (AZS), who will fight for medals. The biggest chance to achieve this goal have two of them: Justyna Kowalczyk and Tomasz Sikora. read more >>

29 World University Championships in 2010 - 3 February 2010 Besides the Universiades, which are hosted during the odd numbered years, FISU attributes a large amount of World University Championships during the even numbered years. Since 2004 the number of WUC has been on the rise with 25 World University Championships that attracted 4,845 participants from a total of 186 (of which 90 different) countries. read more >>

Finnish student athlete of the year award - 3 February 2010 On February 1st, the Finnish Student Sports Federation celebrated its 86th Anniversary. Kaisa Myllylä, the new President of the Federation, warmly welcomed all the guests from member associations and interest groups. Afternoon's highlight was the publication of Finnish Student Athlete of the Year, an award that has been granted since 2002. This time the honour was directed to figure skater Kiira Korpi who won bronze medal in Harbin Universiade last winter. read more >>

EUSA mourns death of Dr Frenkl - 8 February 2010 With great sadness we found out that Dr. Robert Frenkl, President of the Hungarian University Sports Federation passed away on February 5, 2010. Mr. Frenkl was born on May 24, 1934. He graduated in 1958 at the Budapest University of Health Sciences, and soon he became a determining person of the Hungarian sports medicine. He was the professor of the faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences of the Semmelweis University until his death. read more >>

Successful registration for SELL Student Games - 10 February 2010 55 universities from 12 countries have registered to XXVI SELL Student Games what will take place in Tartu, Estonia on May 21.-23. Many of those are from countries who once established the Games – Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland, but also from numerous universities from Russia, Ukraine, Germany and elsewhere. A few sports organizations from Asia have also shown their interest to participate in the Games as well. read more >>

The Friendship Games 2010 - 11 February 2010 The Friendship Games is a Basketball tournament between teams of students from all over Europe, that will take place for the fifth year in a row in Israel, this time in in the city of Eilat June 4-11, 2010. The Friendship Games offers university students the opportunity to compete in a round-robin style basketball tournament. The games are designed to be more than just about basketball as student athletes are offered the opportunity to spend time together. read more >>

LSSA cooperation with Chinese embassy - 11 February 2010 On February 9, 2010 Mr. Ceslovas Garbaliauskas, president of Lithuanian students’ sports association (LSSA) held a meeting with Mr. Tong Mingtao, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Lithuania. LSSA has a long-term friendship with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Lithuania. read more >>

Universidad Congress 2010 in Cuba - 15 February 2010 From February 8-12, 2010, the 7th International Congress on Higher Education was held in the “Palacio de Convenciones” in Havanna, Cuba. More than 3500 participants, mainly from the Latin American countries, but also from Spain, Greece, Switzerland, Russia, China and Saudia-Arabia were registered at this Congress. Leonz Eder, EUSA EC member, presented a paper on “Sports – quality of life for students and employees”. read more >>

Slovenian students in Vancouver

Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA) is closely following Slovenian athletes, especially students, at the 21st Winter Olympic Games, where the grand opening took place on Friday 12th February in Vancouver, Canada. At the winter event, 30 men and 17 women athletes represent Slovenia, which is a record number of Slovenian team at the Winter Olympics so far. read more >>

EUG 2012 Final Candidates - 17 February 2010 February 15, 2010 was the deadline for submission of the candidatures for the organisation of the 1st European Universities Games (EUG) 2012. EUSA received candidatures from Spain, Portugal and Poland. The official candidate cities are: - Cordoba (ESP), - Lisbon (POR) and Lodz (POL). The EUSA Executive Committee will attribute the organisation of the Games on its next meeting in Vilnius on March 20, 2010. read more >>

AUSF publishes yearly magazine - 23 February 2010 Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) has published its yearly magazine – Asian University Sports Magazine 2009. In the magazine, you are able to find the current information on the AUSF structures, get an overview of the Asian Universities Championships in 2009, and reports from the four championships already carried out this year. Besides that, the information on AUSF Executive Committee meeting, Steering Committee meeting and Forum is given. read more >>

EUC Futsal also welcomes women teams - 23 February 2010 At the 7th European Universities Futsal Championship in Zagreb (CRO), the participation of women futsal teams is also expected, so national university sport federations, universities and university women futsal teams are especially invited to participate and register their team.

This will be the first time women teams will participate at the European Universities Futsal Championship. read more >>

Overview of FISU philately - 24 February 2010 Earlier in February, FISU published a book Philately Overview of the International University Sport Movement & FISU, depicting philatelic items regarding the International University Sports Movement and the Federation itself. BUCS supports Right to Play - 25 February 2010 British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) is set to raise £2500 for sport for development charity, Right to Play, by cycling 2000 miles to the heart of Africa. Staff at BUCS, the national organisation for higher education sport in the UK, will be sharing the miles from their head office in London to raise money for this year’s Right To Play Month. Last year, BUCS, its universities and Right To Play raised over £200,000. read more >>

St. Gallen getting ready for EUC 2011 - 25 February 2010 For the first time, the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland will host an European Universities Championship; namely Tennis in 2011. St. Gallen University is also the headquarters of the Swiss University Sports Federation since 1992. EUSA EC Member Leonz Eder, head of the University Sports Department in St. Gallen, met with Markus Broennimann, Director of Administration of the University of St. Gallen who strongly supports the event to be hosted in St. Gallen. read more >>
