Pedestrian centre gaining ground
Council in the market for ideas FUENGIROLA Council is seeking cross-party cooperation on establishing a viable plan for the future of the Mercacentro. The market has been a source of unrest in recent weeks with merchants criticising the council for a lack of action and support. Not quite dancing in the streets ESTEPONA will hold its annual street party next month which will again feature a range of free activities for young and old to enjoy. The cultural celebration is in its sixth year and will take place from March 9 to 11 with excitement already beginning to build. It has become a highlight of the cultural, leisure and tourist calendar in the town, with performances and concerts to please all tastes. Councillor for Culture, Blas Ruzafa, is encouraging residents and tourists to take part and enjoy ‘Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol.’ Revenues that the festivities bring in have funded the comprehensive remodelling of a number of streets in the area. The events programme features a concert band led by Pablo Carbonell called Los Toreros Muertos, and the Spanish pop group La Union. Other musical performances include the Young Provincial Orchestra of Malaga, and the Garcia Fajer Foundation. More than 100 prizes will be raffled at the event, including holidays, boat trips and free restaurant meals. There will also be a historical re-en-

TORREMOLINOS Council has approved the second phase of works to pedestrianise the town centre. Initial work began in January with pipelines and infrastructure, and will continue throughout the year. The project has been designed by Malaga architect Salvador Moreno Peralta, and will feature the creation of a large boulevard that will cross the Costa del Sol square. In May the surface paving will begin with the aim of opening the boulevard in December. The whole renovation has required an investment from the council of €2.5 million.
