Party line ADRA councillors voted to ask the central government to take steps to prevent higher electricity bills created by the “peak, valley and flat” rates introduced on June 1. PSOE socialists opposed the motion, prompting Mayor’s Office councillor Jose Crespo to accuse them of toeing the party line instead of putting Adra residents first.

A little breathing space CUEVAS DEL ALMANZORA Town Hall has made one‐off pay‐ ments of €800 to 122 self‐employed residents and small busi‐ nesses. This was the second round of help from the Cuevas Cuenta Contigo (Cuevas counts on you) programme since June 2020, when the town hall allocated almost €100,000 for individual €400 grants. Both phases of the programme were directed at providing “a little breathing space” for the worse‐affected by the forced clo‐ sures during the State of Alarm, explained Melchora Caparros and Miriam Quintana, respective councillors for Commerce and Economic Development. Measures like these underlined the town hall’s commitment to its commerce and businesses that need liquidity during a criti‐ cal situation for a strategically important sector. Over the past year the town hall has also launched its Super‐ heroes of Small Things campaign, which included scratch cards with purchases made in Almanzora shops. “The local govern‐ ment team’s goal is to support the shop‐owners and self‐em‐ ployed who have suffered so much during this unprecedented health crisis,” Capparos and Quintana declared. “They have ‐ and will have ‐ us at their side to help them over‐ come this difficult lean spell.”
