THE Murcia region has broken its own export records during the first eight months of the year. Companies based in the area have, between January and August, exported over €7 billion worth of products for the first time, slightly exceeding the €6.9 billion from the same period last year. In total, the ‘Made in Murcia’ brands reached €7.176 billion... a record amount. Javier Celdran, Minister of Employment and Business, said that “the constant work we do to support companies with our ‘Foreign Promotion Plan’ that helps to consolidate sales abroad and open up new markets, continues to bear fruit and contributes to generating quality and stable employment in the region.”

Nigel Watson... gone too soon A

ROUND 150 people turned up in the brightest possible colours for the funeral of 10year-old Nigel Watson who lost his brave fight in the early hours of last Sunday morning. The service took place in a packed to the rafters Guardamar Tanatorio on Tuesday afternoon, and was attended by many of his family, friends, and residents of Urbanisation La Marina and beyond who all joined together to celebrate the life of a very popular young boy. People woke up to the news on Sunday morning after his devastated mum, Jackie, posted the following message on Facebook: ‘It’s with great sadness to tell you that Nigel gained his angel wings this morning.’ Among the many tributes that poured in during the hours that followed the news, one in particular summed up everybody’s feelings. ‘He will always be

For the next seven months, the community rallied around at every possible opportunity to raise funds to enable him to have specialist treatment that he underwent in Pamplona, Madrid and Alicante, but even though the prognosis was not good, they carried on fighting and praying for this little boy right to the end.

THE NAO Victoria has arrived in the port of Cartagena after a three-day sailing from Malaga. It is a replica of the legendary ship that managed, at the time, the greatest maritime adventure in history. Between the years 1519 and 1522, it was the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the world, and part of a Spanish expedition commanded by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, and after his death during the voyage, by Juan Sebastián Elcano. The NAO Victoria will be docked in Cartagena and open to the public until November 24.
