Orihuela’s tallest building evacuated A TOTAL of eight people, including a three-year-old girl, needed to be evacuated from a 10storey building in Orihuela after a fire broke out in an electric box. The blaze in one of the tallest buildings in Orihuela caused a number of minor explosions which caused alarm throughout the block and resulted in smoke spreading through the stairwell. Nobody was injured during the incident, but a number of residents were treated by paramedics for the effects of smoke and suffering from shock.

T’S estimated that there are around 19,000 patients across the Alicante Province currently taking one of the 100 blood-pressure related drugs that are being withdrawn from the market. The announcement of the rogue batch of medication was made last week after it was discovered that they contain an impurity that may be cancer causing. It essentially affects those tablets that contain Valsartan, and since the warning, health centres and doctors have seen a steady trickle of patients going to double check on the medication they take. The official advice is for patients not to stop taking their prescription, but to consult their GP who will change the brand.

CPR saves elderly swimmer A MAN believed to be between 75 and 80-years-old was rushed to the Torrevieja Hospital after almost drowning in the sea off the Playa del Cura in the municipality.
