by Darren Parmenter GUARDAMAR Town Hall is behind the move to get a building on an abandoned campsite demolished. The local eyesore located on the edge of the pine forest is visible to everyone as they pass by on the N-332, and is close to the recently installed new access routes through the sand dunes to the beach. T he building - now covered in graffiti and in a state of total ruin - is on private ground, but is protected as part of the Coastal Protection Plan (PATIVEL). Therefore, no direct action can be taken by the local authority that authorised the campsite for more than 30 years. According to a report in the Spanish media, the mayor of Guardamar Jose Luis

Saez is attempting to get the owner of the property to voluntarily demolish it before taking any formal proceeding that will permit the council to do it themselves. The building, once used as the reception of the previously popular campsite, is now full of rubble and occupies around 600m2 of land. T he surrounding area is made up of concrete paths once used as camping plots and abandoned gardens. With the plot not being fenced in, the area is seen as dangerous for those people who sometimes still make their way to the beach from this zone. Just over a year ago, the property was seen to be up for sale and only a few months ago work began on clearing out the site... work that has now come to a halt.
