Incredible support for Nigel by Darren Parmenter IN the words of a famous song taken from the musical Evita, when it comes to fundraising for 10-year-old Nigel Watson, ‘the money keeps rollin’ in!’ The RTN first told the story of young Nigel last month, explaining that he’d been diagnosed with an inoperable and cancerous tumour on his brain stem. Even though it’s hoped the intense course of radiotherapy that he’s currently undergoing will solve his condition, his mother Jacque has already looked at the possibility of Nigel going to the USA for specialised proton beam treatment that has been suc-

cessful in similar cases to her son. With the help of an army of friends and generous supporters, the task of raising €100,000 to fund the possible treatment in the USA began at the start of April, and after the first 25 days a remarkable €12,000 has already been collected. This has been thanks not only to online donations via the special GoFundme page at www.gofundme.com/nigelsbrain-stem-glioma-treatment but from events such as head shavings, selling home-made fudge, raffles, and any other donations people are generously making, especially at the recent Dutch King’s day. Collecting tins adorn almost

every business on the Urbanisation La Marina and in a number of locations outside the area that have been equally supportive of Nigel’s plight. This Sunday sees a motorbike run leaving from the Rock House on the urbanisation at midday and an afternoon gig featuring Done and Dusted with all donations gratefully received. A ‘Walk with Nigel’ is also planned for the end of the month - more details to come at a later date - and the local school in San Fulgencio has organised a ‘superhero’ day for children to come to school in fancy dress due to take place today (Friday).
