Costa Blanca to appear in Britain’s bestselling diving magazine DIVING IN: The trip was organised after Calpe attended the MEDSEA fair
by Tahnee Wright Journalist and photographer Will Appleyard of DIVER Magazine spent some time on the Costa Blanca recently to experience first-hand the wonders of the Mediterranean seabed. He first enjoyed diving off Calpe’s Los Arcos location, on the north side of the Penon de Ifach. Los Acros is characterised by its rocky bottom made up of large stones arranged to create curious shapes. Its name
comes from the arches formed in some of these huge rocks. Later, he took a catamaran cruise and is said to have been ‘wowed’ by the stunning sunset. The diver also visited the Islet of Tabarca off Santa Pola – the first marine reserve in Spain, created in 1986, the Bou Ferrer shipwreck off Villajoyosa – the largest Roman shipwreck in the Mediterranean and the La Llosa location off Benidorm. Diputacion de Alicante Vice Presi-
dent Eduardo Dolon said that, thanks to Calpe’s presence at MEDSEA - the first international water sports trade fair, that took place in March: “the municipality was able to forge the organisation of Appleyard’s trip that will allow us to spread the wealth of our coasts.” The trip was promoted by the Diputacion in collaboration with the Valencian Tourist Agency and supported by Calpe, Santa Pola, Villajoyosa and Benidorm. Several diving centres were in-
volved in its organisation, including Anthias, Ali-Sub, Nisos, Diving Stones and Dive & Dive. DIVER Magazine has been in production for over four decades and has become Britain’s best-selling diving magazine. It boasts a circulation of more than 30,000 copies a month and its readers and mostly recreational divers and professionals with a high socio-economic level.
