by Lynn Whittaker THE AREA of the Vega Baja will soon have a new and updated service thanks to a unique cooperation. Taxi drivers from nine different municipalities have joined forces to improve their service, increase coverage and reduce the amount of waiting time for passengers. In total, there will be 50 taxis made up from Orihuela, Pilar de la Horadada, San Miguel de Salinas, Rafal, Jacarilla, BenejĂşzar, Bigastro, Los Montesinos and Benferri and will get rid of existing rules that prevent taxi drivers picking up passengers from anywhere outside of his licensed area. The 50 vehicles will be sporting a corporate identify badge with the phrase 'Vega Baja Litoral Sur' so that they are easily recognised by passengers. This scheme, which is due to start in October, has been two years in the planning.
