Nuclear waste call MEMBERS of a leftist political party are due to ask Andalucian officials for an update on Palomares’ radioactive pollution situation in the region’s Parliament today (Thursday). Lucia Ayala, Podemos’ representative for Almeria Province in the Andalucian Parliament, is due to ask if the region’s Junta
is prepared to take action to help clean up the area. Podemos claimed in a statement Palomares had been ‘ignored’ by successive administrations since the mid-air plane crash that led to radioactive waste being spewed over the town in the 1960’s. “Lucia Ayala will ask the Junta
to what extent it is within its powers to protect the people of Palomares, which is one of the areas with the highest levels of nuclear pollution in Europe,” the party said. The representative is also set to call for “coherence and responsibility” in relation to the cleanup.
